for purely road driving - probably. i own a new everest, and it is nice to drive on the highway, but it is under-engineered. terrible shock vs spring tuning. and as is common with contemporary ford's, it has terrible software issues throughout the car. then there's the iffy mechanical issues. weak rear chassis, oil leaks, glow plug failures, engine mounts failing, rust in doors, boot and bonnet. off-road the prado smashes the everest. the new everest has road car suspension travel, but with offroad compromises to handling and comfort. if i was buying a new tow/4x4 vehicle today, it'd be this Prado.

I went with a friend of my last weekend with his MY19 Prado GXL (I was in the MY23.50 Everest Trend) to a regional Toyota dealership (as we were both down south and heading home to Sydney) to have a look at this new Prado, I lol'ed when looking at the GX model digital driver display and saw the near same fuel and temp vertical stack gauges, that said Toyota figured out a better looking tacho display than Ford with the vertical bar one. My friend was not convinced by the 7-seat layout on GXL, also smaller fuel tank and Adblue, I simply told my friend adblue is not an issue if you keep on topping up the tank by keeping an eye on the adblue gauge. As for an Everest v new gen Prado battle? bring it on..
@sneakyfoz36929 күн бұрын
There is a lot to like about this, it looks good inside and out but the price is a little off and I just expected something better from Toyota after this amount of time. It’s a lot of money and some corners have been cut which leads to compromises which you expect in cheaper models but not on a high end model. The 2.8:diesel is serviceable, but let’s face it, it is a truck engine and when you are spending $100k in 2025 it should be something more advanced and refined than that old burner, the 48v system is also a bit meh to me. The ad blue is unavoidable but just another hassle that makes a diesel engine in a high end off roader is a real pita.

I never understood mild or any hybrid with diesel. In petrol I can understand the help of electric power to overcome the motion from start where petrol engine is least efficient and most thirsty before they build up the torque. In diesel engine where you have a plenty of torque on very low revs, what is the purpose of electric help? Battery and the rest of the electric system just adding to the weight with not much benefit. Instead of hybrid they could put a bigger engine in it getting much more torque which would be less revving and quitter for driving and still having the same or less total weight (and room at the back) and cheaper too.

No I dont think so, they have done some good things in the interior and exterior styling, but powertrain wise not improving the performance and a heavier car than previous generations mean its slower. I took two test drives of the new Prado GX. To be honest, I was very disappointed with the following experiences: Road Noise: road noise is a significant problem, making for an uncomfortable driving experience. Audio System: The GX’s sound system is extremely subpar. It’s worse than a $15 Bluetooth speaker I own, Cargo Space: The seven-seat model’s trunk is practically unusable, while the five-seat version is only slightly better. 48V System: I noticed no tangible benefits from the system during driving, and it seems more like a future maintenance headache than a practical feature. AdBlue Requirement: The need for AdBlue adds unnecessary complexity and inconvenience. Overall, the LC250 is no longer suited for serious off-road adventures and fails to meet the high expectations set by its predecessors.

Hi Matt thanks for your great review on the new Prado and look forward to your future new Prado reviews . I put an order in for a new GXL over a year ago and went for a test drive of one last week and was very impressed ….well sort of anyway🤔. The noisy 2.8 now with not only a DPF but featuring AdBlue as well along wind noise around the mirrors was a bit of an early put off and gave a bit of a reminder that the new Prado in some ways isn’t exactly as new as it could have been. However having said that the way it drove along with its appearance fit and finish look and feel a big step forward. I agree the boot debacle was a big oversight and keeping the old 2.8 diesel is a bit of a worry. However I doubt whether these issues will deter rusted on Prado owners who will buy the new model just to have one. In my case I couldn’t work a satisfactory deal ( Surprise Surprise!)with my Toyota dealer so guess I will be hanging on to my V6 Everest Sport for the foreseeable future. The Everest is in many ways better than the new Prado but unfortunately the Ford will never get close to the Pedigree and heritage of the Toyota Prado.
