Big Manufacturers take note. This is how you buy out or bring back a brand. You write them a blank check and you let them do what made them popular in the first place. Like Tata did with Range Rover or Geely with Volvo. Loving how VW did this, kept the brand in the US, body on frame and it’s not a VW underneath.

I just watched the Scout reveal. Having a rear mounted engine as a generator is brilliant for the range extender harvester. Hope that it's not just the Traveller, but the Terra too. That's huge for performance and range. Putting the weight in the rear and keeping the trunk up front is perfect. I'm really rooting for this vehicle to be great. Driveway serviceability and user friendly, what a concept. Factory direct sales bypasses all those dealership markups. If they can hit the advertised price point this sure looks like a winner.

Fingers crossed on pricing. Base model is usually too bare bones, and anyone remember cybertruck pricing of $40k base model in 2019?
@kenmcclow896342 минут бұрын
I did a focus group last summer for the Scout pickup and this is pretty much what they were talking and showing then. I had the impression that it was a mid size truck with a full size short bed. They had it around $60k with 400 miles of range, so 350 with a range extender is pretty good too. I while bench seats are a little retro cool, I prefer an armrest and storage, so hopefully they either add a 5 seat option, or a flip down seat back armrest. I had a Dodge pickup with the fold down armrest that worked ok. I really like the way it looks inside and out, plus I didn’t get to see the frunk before and that’s very nice. I didn’t have much hope since my ID.4 doesn’t have any frunk. I do have a reservation for the R2, so this will be a fair competition among the SUV’s

I made my reservation. Love the look and the range extender option. I really think EV with a range extender (gas generator) is the future power plant for vehicles. The plug in hybrid vehicles like the Jeep 4xe are too expensive for not providing much electric range. You pay EV premium w/o eliminating your gas costs. The BYD Shark from China is configured like this I believe. I’m super excited. Can’t wait.

Okay, now THAT is what I'm talking about! A body on frame PHEV, solid rear axle, locking diffs, mid size, with 10k tow rating, 2k payload, and it is aimed at $60k or less? If they manage to deliver the hybrid for around 50k you can bet your caboose I am buying one! Now, what remains to be seen is if reality meets expectation and I'm gonna be real, 2027 is a VERY long way off. In all honesty I think we will be lucky for this to actually reach the market and I will be shocked if they don't goose the price to over $90k to make it a luxury vehicle. The fact that the big manufacturers are ignoring the middle market in favor of luxury goods has left the largest market segment unserved. If these guys are smart and make cost effective versions they will be in a position to eat the lunch of GM, Ford, and Chrysler. Thanks to the TFL team for bringing this to my attention, this is EXACTLY what I have been begging for. And, since we have a few years till they launch, I will be saving my pennies to get one.
@arcostonian2 сағат бұрын
The strategy is to keep it an everyday man's truck. They know most of the market cannot afford a 100k truck. They are securing pricing for all parts now, so it should be pretty close to that.
