How long for foot blisters to heal? Six weeks! I got a blister and took a photo every day and I could still see skin damage working its way out at the 6-week mark. Blister healing takes 6 weeks.

Hello, it's Rebecca here with this week's 60 Second Blister Tip. And today I'm answering the question, how long does it take for blisters to heal?
Now some people think this takes a matter of days but in reality, for the skin to grow out from the deepest level of damage to the most superficial, it can take about six weeks.

Now I got a blister and I took a photo every day for a little while and every couple of weeks and there was skin damage still coming out or growing out at the six-week mark. So now this is useful because if you've got a blister and then you institute some sort of prevention, a lot of people sort of two or three weeks down the track see that the skin's not quite right and think that that prevention mechanism isn't working anymore.
In reality, it's just the previous damage still growing out. So it can take around about six weeks for a blister to fully heal.

I have had a blister on the inside of my ankle finally healing after about a month. I believe it got infected however after the skin popped somehow leaving it open, it had a red color circling the wound for a few days after. Would that have been the case? I also didnt really dress the wound after, I finally put aquafor and that sped up the healing but just wanted some piece of mind that it was in fact probably infected. Thanks

Difficult to say without seeing it. Difficult also because it may not be a friction blister. They're not common on the ankle (varicose ulcers are though) unless you're wearing boots.

hi your videos are very helpful, thanks for uploading it. I have a very huge burn blister right now about 7cm in diameter caused from a boiling soup which accidently poured to my right leg. I am worried and keeping my might not to burst it. hopefully it will heal fast.

No worries. However, I advise on friction blisters of the feet, as I'm a podiatrist. Burns that cause blisters are actually a deeper injury and termed a second degree burn. So the healing will take longer and you should be extra careful to prevent infection. Read this about burn blisters vs friction blisters: www.blister-prevention.com/burn-blister/

@@Sodainspace hi, mine bursted, but it's all healed now after 3 weeks. I noticed that If the blister is too big, just like what i had, it will just burst eventually. Some say it will be better if it bursted so you can apply the cream on the wound and have it absorbed for faster healing. But make sure you dress and cover it regularly to avoid infection. Just saying these based on experience. :)

What if the blister is turning white around the edges of a de roof blister?

That's probably maceration, but feel free to seek clarification from a medical professional who has the benefit of actually looking at it. If maceration, your blister base is too weepy for the length of time you're leaving your dressing on. Change it more frequently.

@Blister-Prevention I have noticed that when I take a bath. The scabs get wet and the scabs comes off before having a chance to heal. The burn blisters are back to being raw and having to keep them cover with Band-aids. At one point the doctor thought that the Stickiness of the Band-aids might be causing the scabs to come off. But it seem to me that both is causing this problem. I change the dress ing one time a day. And I have noticed that the Band-aids does cause alot maceration. I assume that you are saying that maceration cause the scabs to come off. So how can I keep The germs from getting into the wounds. And prevent maceration. This has been going on for 2 very long months. Could I keep The wounds uncover to avoid maceration?
