I have been using After Effects since before Adobe even owned it. I use it for feature film effects, television animation, games, commercials, you name it. And I've considered myself to be fairly AE savvy, but you just blew me away with this and the previous video. Thank you so much for teaching this old dog some new and very useful tricks. along the same lines as "center to view" is the align tab---really useful, you can grab multiple objects, center them, align left/right/top/bottom to either the comp or to the group selection. Really a useful panel.

Thank you. such an important topic for us AE nerds. 15 - 14:48 - did not know that! but I prefer to set a key-frame for the property I want in the effects control and then click U because it gives me just the category I want and not all the effects opened in the little space I usually have in my timeline. 20 - 17:54 - or you could just right click on the value and click reset - I'll race you for who does it faster :) but actually resetting the way you showed can be helpful say for other tools in the tools panel like parametric masks and shapes. if you created a star and changed it's default shape you could press twice on the parametric shape icon and reset it's shape behavior.

Great video! Just wanted to flag an alternative for # 10 for Mac users who don't have a Home key on their keyboard. If you select your layer, hold Command and double click the "Pan Behind (Anchor Point) Tool (Y)" - 6th along in the tool bar - and it will also center your Anchor point on that object. Would be curious to know if this works for Windows using Ctrl instead of CMD key?

For anyone wondering about #10 on a mac, its: fn+command+alt+left arrow, and same for #11 but without the alt.

Amazing video! I had to write down 9 of those tricks so I can memorize them while I work. Thank you! Oh, and also, do you have any post or video explaining why would you prefer Windows instead of Mac for video production? I'm considering changing to Windows.
@ukramedia10 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Learning shortcuts will give you more time to design and things to that nature. I'm definitely huge on shortcuts because time is money. As far as Windows/Mac... I'm not a PC or Mac guy. Both of them are tools and both have advantages and disadvantages. At the moment I prefer Windows over Mac because they are a lot cheaper. :-)
@kingdomstd10 жыл бұрын
I agree. I used to be an apple maniac and believed that creative stuff could only be made in Macs. Because of the price (and some stupid problems with my Apple devices) I tried risking myself into the hackintosh world. But I'm really getting stressed. Seeing you and many other pros using Windows for video production makes me feel secure about this transition.

Hi there! I have a question: Really awesome and useful tips. I work in an advertisement production company and your tips really helped ease my work, but I often find myself working on a 16:9 gfx comp which I have to convert it to 4:3 for a couple of tv stations which are stuck in the Paleolithic. What I do is basically take every single graphic element and adapt it to 4:3 aspect ratio and it's the most time consuming. My question is: are there any easier ways for me to do this and keep the graphic and images ratio not distorted? Thanks!

great video, but one more " Tutorial title heading " information that would be nice is to list what version its for. I am on the last Disc version , which is CS6, I do realize CC is more powerful, but after purchasing CS6 , I couldnt see spending an add'l $$ for CC.Oh well .. life goes on.. I try to look at the top left corner for either "CC" or CS6.. even though some features apply to some older versions... Again...Great Tutorial....keep up the great work.

Wow man, these (and part 1) where useful tips! I’ve been using after effects from version 3.1 (NOT CS3 ;) ) and still learned things that I didn’t know of. “Copy with property links?” I wish I knew that one before! Thanks. CTRL+ALT+B? haha I always typed IBON, this was even a startup-tip in a after effects version. One thing for (hopefully) part 3 ;), most times you only mention the keyboard shortcut. But most motiongraphers are visually oriented, and find it more useful to see where to see this option is placed in the menu. I know the keyboard shortcut is totally the way to go for fast interaction, but to memorize every shortcut you’ve mentioned in the video is a bit overwhelming. Also, if there’s a shortcut for a function in the menu, it’s mentioned besides the menu item. If it turns out I use a function a lot, I memorize the shortcut eventually. Anyway, thanks for the video. Subscribed!

Thanks Michel for you VERY USEFUL feedback! I love people like you! I'm pretty sure that copy with property links is a new feature in either CS6 or CC.Thanks again!
