The game industry has been full of scammers for decades. People try and raise venture capital and then the "product" they will develop is never realized but brothers get PAID. What has happened in the last 10 years is all of these platforms have risen up to make crowdfunding so easy and real. There have always been carpet baggers and scammers through the history of civilization but now they don't even have to be smart or charismatic. "There is a sucker born every minute" has never been more true. Now for the rant part of my post Kira :) This is what makes it so hard for real indie developers to bring a dream alive. We have such a suspicious and jaded audience just because we are "Indie". I have worked on games and game design as well as some nice Trip A MMOs but... trying to launch a self-funded indie MMO is so brutally hard without triggering some "SCAMMER ALERT" reactions. Guess what, it takes money to make video games. And worse than that it takes big bucks to sustain video games. So much behind the scenes work, customer support, financial management and accounting, public relations and community building, and all of those on top of the mountains of bug fixing and content creation that must be ongoing... So daunting. Kira I want to thank you for one of your recent vids where you envouraged people not to give up on indie game studios because somewhere there will be that 1 in a million. I believe you are right. I also agree with what you said about "Don't fund anything, or if you do dont expect to see anything from it". It's true. For every indie MMO success there are literally 10s of thousands of failures. Hopefully I wont be one of those but.. Odds are against me.
