I've been catching surf perch there for years. Here's my tips. Head away from the rocks. Drive the opposite way when the tide is out and note sand bars. There will be water in front of them kinda like ditches. If you're digging clams, you have to wade to get up on the bars. That ditch is where the perch hold when the tide is coming in. You will see wave froth, a slick, then a wave. Cast into that slick, it's the ditch. Also, turn sideways with one foot towards shore and I other towards sea so waves don't impact you so hard and knock you down.

Good places for surf perch is where you can find a deep trough right behind the brake, especially if there is fresh water coming in close

Note for next time. Fry the fish first to almost dry it out. Then deglaze the pan with water and start making your stock. The fish will have better consistency and it will also add more flavour to your broth. This works better for almost all soups. Take the fish off the bones and then put them in a spice bag and keep them in the stock as well to add to the flavour of the broth, but then it’s easy to remove them at the end

Lived in Oceanside California and found out you don't need to cast out very far in the surf to catch surfperch they are relatively close to the edge of the beach in the pocket were the waves brake on shore.

My favorite way to fish surf perch is carolina setup a 1.25 oz tungsten bullet weight. I use my 9.6 sst steelhead rod. Cast it out, keep the tip high and rell just slow enough to hit bottom every now and then. They will hit it hard and is actually a fun fight.

A trick for shelling the clams I was shown as a kid in alaska is to use the clam shell as a knife to cut the 2 attachment points on the shell on each side. Also splitting the top third to half of the boot let's you clean more of it out

I just found your channel. I live only a few miles from the ocean here in Washington state. Razor clams are one of the best things to eat as my opinion. We call the foot as you say the digger and it is loaded with a fatty flesh and my favorite part. We use the necks for grinding and making awesome patties. To me a fast fried clam is like candy and I'll even eat them cold. Try using a really intense propane cooker like for deep frying a turkey. Then oil the clams that are cut into strips. Then toss in seasoned flower of your choice and throw into a wok that's damn near red hot. Toss constantly for no more than 1 minute, salt and pepper and be ready for a food orgasm. The kelp is really good also but I oil fry it for about 10 minutes and then minc. Mix it with rice, butter and light soy is my favorite way. I've served it to people that have no idea that it's kelp and they liked it a lot.
