Dear Banana man - At the beginning the .243 hit the knot in the wood which is the hardest/densest part of the tree to the extent that most screws can/will snap if you hit a knot that large with them EVEN IF you predrill it (most carpenders avoid knotty wood) plus they're packed with resin (which turns to super hard hot glue with friction or heat including from screws) and all the treating chemicals including copper sulfate (if I remember correctly) so it's probably like a light duty natural kevlar (wood fiber) reinforced HDPE (tree sap) ceramic (dried/harden/compressed/cold tree sap in a dense wood knot in pressure treated lumber) type composite material. It's buzzword salad I know but couldn't think of a better way to say it, basically I'm not surprised at those results since a grew up in a lumber yard but it'd be cool to see a test of wood knots vs plain wood (obviously make sure all are the same lumber type like TYP/pressure treated yellow pine in this case)

My buddy inherited a Ruger stainless (I forget the model, but it's sought after) in .243, when he was a kid. His older brother got the 30-06. They are avid hunters and neither has ever bought a new rifle. .243 definitely gets the job done. I have an 11 year old daughter, and I have been driving myself crazy, trying to figure out what to get her. My ex wife had a rem model 7 in .260. That's a sweet little package, especially for a kid. Unfortunately, she "loaned" it to her nephew. Something along those lines is what I'm thinking, but in something more available than .260.

For the "Splash" test, might I suggest that you measure the "Dent" that is left in the piece of steel, after most of the Energy was absorbed by the water jug, of even a piece of wood (if its cheaper/easier for you).
@deanstafford19722 ай бұрын
You need to do some tests on the 300 HAM'R. Definitely would love to see some results.
@carlk11832 ай бұрын
Instead of a "splatter test" How about some sort of water trap which could show penetration AND you can recover the bullet to see expansion, weight, etc. Basically getting more data out of the same test. Love your channel!
@w.scottjones46772 ай бұрын
Just an Idea, add half the jug full of water and add. Teaspoon of dawn soap and a drop of food coloring and shake the bananas out of it. Then your splattered stuff would be more visible. Maybe....

I use to do long range 1/4 mile target shooting 7mm is very near the same ballistics as 300 Winchester mag. I use to be able to shoot your block of wood target from 1/4 mile and hit 100 out of 100 shots. If you want good ballistics you need to reload with a different powder than factory load bullets. Best ballistics is with a slower powder that burns 26" of the 28" barrel length. You want a powder that gives the bullet a good hard continuous push not a sledge hammer hit on your shoulder. Your rifle needs to have lead weights so it weighs a minimum of 10 lbs. 300 Win Mag will go through 1/2" of steel easy and 7mm will too. Bullet weight makes a difference too light bullets loose energy quicker than heavy pullet at long distances you won't notice that doing up close target shooting. Your comparing apples to watermelons comparing 243 to 7mm but very good test and good video also.

The 7mm-08 is hands-down, the best cartridge of those four not as fast as the 6.5 or the 243 but has way more energy than both and more velocity than the 308

14:28 is the important part, comparing random loads proves what? Might I suggest picking a projectile sectional density e.g. 0.242 this gives (roughly) a 100gn 243, 117gn 0.264, 140gn 0.284, and 165gn 0.308 Then get comparable "high performance" loads for each of these e.g. Hornady American Whitetail .243 Winchester 100 Grain Centerfire Rifle lists 2,960fps, Hornady Outfitter 6.5 Creedmoor 120 Grain CX lists 2925fps, Hornady American Whitetail 7mm-08 Remington 139 Grain lists 2840fps and Hornady American Whitetail .308 Winchester 165 Grain Centerfire Rifle Ammo lists 2700fps. Now that's a comparison I'd like to see.

This guy's zaniness is hilarious I love it. DON'T STOP! IT MAKES YOUR SHOW VERY ENTERTAINING! I DON'T HAVE THE FINANCING TO BUY THESE EXPENSIVE FIREARMS OR THE AMMO! I HAVE A OLD WORE OUT REMINGTON, WITH CHEAPEST 308 AMMO I CAN FIND. MY OLDER BROTHER SOLD ME ON THE 308, WHEN HE GOT HOME FROM VIETNAM, HE SAID THE ARMY TOOK THEIR M-14 AWAY FROM THEM, THE MEN COMPLAINED ABOUT IT'S STOPPING POWER, AND THE 5.56 BULLET GETS DEFLECTED IN THE TALL GRASS! THE GUYS HAD TO SHOOT OVER THE HIGH GRASS EXPOSING THEM TO ENEMY FIRE, HE SAID WE LOST MORE MEN TO THIS CHANGE. HE WAS GETTING SHORT, HE QUIT SHOOTING OVER THE GRASS, ON HIS LAST DAY HE WAS SITTING ON HIS BUNK WITH HIS BAGS PACKED, AND INCOMING MORTAR ATTACK HIT HIS BARRACK, HE WAS SAFE BEHIND THE SAND BAGS. HIS LUGGAGE HAD SHRAPNEL WENT THROUGH IT. AS HE WAS SIGNING OUT THEY TOOK HIS LUGGAGE AWAY FROM HIM, TOO DANGEROUS TO TAKE HOME. HE ASKED ( WHY DID THE ARMY TAKE THE M-14 AWAY FROM US?) THE LT. COLONEL SAID THE 5.56 IS A MORE HUMANE BULLET!!! WHEN HE GOT HOME, HE ASKED EVERYONE TO NOT BRING UP ANY VIETNAM QUESTIONS FOR AWHILE.!!!
