Josh your comment on the NFL being a TV product is 100% accurate. This was the most apparent during 2020 when stadiums either had no fans or limited fans. I enjoyed the product on the field but I wasn't really bothered by the lack of fans in NFL games, however in college football games the games felt genuinely soulless without the fans like something important was missing.

Your answer was perfect in every day. I'm an OSU fan so obviously I love the Shoe, but I've also been to at least 20 different stadia for OSU away and bowl games and I marvel at the differences and similarities. I am also a huge basketball fan so I always check out the school's basketball arena when I am on another campus as well. The difference in those is even more striking. But re: Beaver Stadium, you are correct that it looks like an erector set. I remember going to a game there and we were in one of the upper sections. As my friend and I were waiting on the rest of our crew to make the climb, you could feel the stadium kind of swaying, just with people filing in for the game. I didn't say anything but she asked "is this thing moving?" My response was "just don't think about it." That wasn't exactly the answer she wanted to hear :)
@josephcernansky17942 жыл бұрын
Welcome to the Erector Set!! It really is an erector set.....the entire stadium was moved in the early 1960, but was only around 45,000 I think. It has been continually added onto. AND it can still be disassembled and relocated!! LOL The ONLY thing I want them to do its increase the restrooms and concessions....but I'm there to only watch the game....and scream so loud that aOSU poisonous horse chestnut team can't hear themselves think on the field. Penn state has really unique visiting locker room design. I travelled with auburn last year and man, the away locker room was ab 1/4 from the tunnel it seemed. We had to walk through the concourse where fans are. Only separated by a sliding chain fence. The locker room was tiny. Half our team fit in it. But it was an incredible experience and atmosphere
@josephcernansky17942 жыл бұрын
Hats off to Auburn fans...I think there were more there than any OSu(east) fans ever. Maybe a couple years ago when sPitt came to town and thought they would pull an upset....But Auburn fans actually ruined the White Out as there were more visitors than usual that made the stadium seem quieter. I think 2016 when Grant Haley ran the blocked field goal back for a touchdown with 4:26 left to beat aOSU AND the 2019 White Out against Michigan were the loudest I have ever heard a stadium. And that includes Texas and TX A&M and Lane Stadium at VAT and most of the other ACC stadiums and even LSU, but that was decades ago when my friend (LSU alum) hoped I wouldn't be disappointed because he knew LSU sucked. I'd like to see them play Bama there now. And I remember when FSU fans were embarrassed because their team sucked so bad...that was before Bobby Bowden came to town.

I've seen a couple of pro games in different stadiums and Josh is correct, they just don't compare. When walking through Camp Randall they have past players and coaches on some of the walls, when walking to Autzen you walk through this wooded area with a river then it opens up to see the stadium, Sun Devil Stadium has the mountain right next to it, they all have a little something different, and you just feel history there. Even if a school like mine doesn't have national championship history you still feel the history of the place and it feels like you're walking through not just a stadium but a historic temple. NFL stadiums just can't compete with that, they provide more comfort, some of the engineering is incredible, but college football stadiums themselves just make you feel like you're in a completely different world for a few hours.

Michigan gets a “quietly crowd” stigma that I don’t think is true. The fans are very loud the stadium just isn’t designed to keep noise in. But the crowds are also dead when they play nobodies.

You are one in a few MANY michigan fans will tell u ots not a loud stadium even the players say that
@Everythingis222 жыл бұрын
I remember when Bob Griese announced games at UM. he’d always remarked it’s not an intimidating atmosphere bc the seats go out so much more than up. It’s not nearly as loud on the field either.

Obviously stadium design is important but it's the nature of the fans that really make it, Michigan's BIG House is the largest stadium in CFB but if we're playing Eastern Michigan it's not that crazy but a packed Big House vs Ohio State or any other Marqee game.....it rocks! The Fans make it💯 〽️〽️GO BLUE〽️〽️ 42-27

Penn State's Beaver Stadium....was built in MORE than 4 different decades!!! It is an ERECTOR SET....it was originally near the present-day Lion Shrine statue near the Nittany Lion Inn on the West side of campus and move to it's present location way out to the East side, I think around 1960.....continually added to...I remember it at 70,000+ and thought it a big deal as I attended undergrad years that it was being enlarged to over 80,000+. Or the bitching from the old money people who complained they were closing in the South end zone and completing the bowl. That it would block the view of Mount Nittany. If you bought a ticket to look at a mountain that was there for millions of years instead of watching and cheering for your team.....go outside and stare at the damn mountain!! LOL But it is in serious need of renovation for restrooms at the very least ...I can deal with the aesthetics of the erector set......I'd cover it over with blue glass and silver(or leave them gray) the steel columns and add white stone facing. They have this idea to brick the stadium in red brick.......how fucking dumb can that be!!?!?!? Penn States colors are Blue and White with silver/gray as highlight colors. Some people in management have no damn vision.

To be honest, is there a power 5 team that isn't great to experience? (Maybe vandy and rutgers.) Especially if it is a conference game at night? I've been to auburn, alabama, fsu, and michigan. All great atmospheres. Alabama was a noon game but the others have all been night games. Going to kinick this year. I want to go to Wisconsin and the shoe but I've heard osu fans will borderline assault opposing fans.

Kyle Field looks as if there were 5 different ideals on how to add to the stadium, and they ended up going with ALL 5 ideas. Weird.

My family has been season ticket holders at Michigan since 1959. My first game was prob 1987 (I was born in 81) and I've been going to at least 2 games every year since so I might be a little bias. Having been to 8 other stadiums in the B10 I can say...there's nothing like the Big House. 〽️

@@Drew-dy4hc From what I've gathered the reason why they added the big upper deck to the west side of the stadium while having the small upper decks everywhere else is so you would be able to see the campus from the west side, I also heard that two of the reasons why they designed the newly renovated south endzone the way they did was because of 1. The lack of space with how developed that part of campus has be come and 2. They wanted to maintain the views fans have of downtown Austin from the stadium. As a Longhorn myself I don't like how oddly shaped the stadium is but I'm not a donor so my opinion is irrelevant.

A modern stadium design sitting in a bowl sucks you are so far away from the field. His opinion really doesn't matter since he's on the sideline. I can tell you being on the third and second deck of a bowl sucks compared to the modern tiered stadiums.
