What an amazing story. Having met both Tom and Thomas, can honestly say they are both iconoclasts and heroes of the sport. Oh, and watching Tom braze with such skill and ease is quite eye opening--a true master! #swisscross #ritchey #frischi

Tom is THE man. A master of the torch and brass rod. I am still riding my Ritcheys from the mid 1980's.

I've had a Steelman eurocross since 05, which I feel is a second cousin to the Swiss Cross (both handmade steel bikes from the Bay Area). I truly appreciate Tom's influence on cycling, especially cyclocross and MTB. Cheers.

I love how he brazed so casual and relaxed and used his forehead as a brace ... I have never been fortunate to own a Ritchie .... maybe someday ...

Is that silicon bronze filler rod, what a beauty. Just clear it. No paint. I’d love a DJ frame naked with some bronze filler for welds, not sure about the strength, but it would be an eye catcher. Looks like paradise brotha. No stress or worry to be seen.

Hello Tom, I have a 1984 Competition fillet brazed frameset from a racer 2 years. I need a rigid fork for it. Anyway to get that fork.

I had a road frame he built around 1985 out of SLX . Great workmanship. Completed a couple of marklieville death rides with it. Should never have sold it.

What would be AWESOME if Ritchie’s release RAW CLEAR COATED frames so you could see the welds & workmanship that goes in the frames. LOVE RAW CLEAR COAT.
@ritcheydesign4 жыл бұрын
Yep, Raw steel looks awesome, but we ED coat all of our frames to protect against rust or any other corrosion. This is a precursor to primer then paint and clear coat. Clear coating a frame is difficult because the clear will easily chip off allowing for corrosion.

FYI, by 1997 there was no West Germany, just Germany, with reunification taking place in Oct. 1990.

Tom, as much as I'd love to tell you that I am kind to your bicycles, I am a very very mean man, and would love to have the option of having a replaceable derailleur hanger. I get too rowdy to have the integrated hanger, even if it is steel and can be bent back, they just get so weak over time.
