The fact you made the long shot and that rifle had never been known as a tact driver. Still if set up correctly it will do that shot and you got him and your dad found him and it is just a memory you and your father will never forget. Buck of a lifetime. Congratulations

@@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast thank you. He passed in the deer woods, late muzzleloader season here in Kentucky. Anurysm. Heart breaking to find him in the darkness. Hunting was the only thing we ever had in common, now at age 47, i weap like a child thinking of all the things i should have said, but didnt. He passed 3 months after mom, makes life so empty feeling, especially with holidays quickly approaching. Thanks for the response, ill be up and in the woods in a few hours, cold front coming thru tonight. Hopefully dad will be with me and bring me a nice buck. Have a good night. Thanks for listening to my ramblings.

@Hammerback972 that is so sad to hear. Hang in there this fall. I bet there is no other place your father would want you to be than in the deer woods. Good luck, I hope you have a blessed fall. 👍

NICE BUCK! Big deer. The old fellers I grew up around all said to find a deer listen and watch the animals in the woods. Crows , ravens, squirrels and other birds will and they do, tell on the hunter as well as the deer.

I have that same Rem Woodmaster in .308, handed down through generations. Mine has harvested A LOT of Michigan deer over the years Great bush gun. Took two more this year with another inherited classic, Marlin 336 in 35 rem. Nice buck, way to stick at it. Miss my dad, who grew up in Waterville.

Only a weak man gives up. I spent 2 hours looking for my deer the other day. I wouldn't have stopped. I have a thermal monocular so I can locate them easier. I can see blood droplets daylight or dark due to that slight temp difference. The faster I move the better. Once the body reaches the outside temp I will be stuck using only my eye's without that wonderful device. If there is one tool to get in your hunting bag. It's a thermal IR monocular. Takes the guess work out and if you hear a crunch in the woods you will be able to determine if it's a deer, human, squirrel, or whatever else is around.

Nice recovery never give-up you did that old warrior buck justice in that recovery. I enjoyed the traditional style of your gun hunt with your dad and the tracking, brought back allot of memories for me. I mainly bow hunt now a days but when the rifle comes out ( I am out west) a 200-300 yrd shot is very common and I am setup to shoot out to 800 yrd with per-calculated ballistics. Growing up in the eastern woods a 150 yrd shot was a long shot back then, good times in the old deer woods. Thank you for sharing congratulations nice old buck.

Amazing hunt. I've said for a while now that the Drurys and Bowmars have their food plots and manicures, trail cameras and treestands. The northeast trackers have some boots and a compass, remingtons in tow. Although this hunt does remind me of something I heard Ron Spomer say at some point. A lot of whitetail hunters have never taken a shot over 100-150yds, and a lot of the rifles they use are set up with irons or low power optics, and this was no exception. But what happens when the biggest buck of your life is in an opening through the woods or across a clear cut at 300yds. I get that this shot was an extreme rarity in tracking but it also makes me glad that I have 2-12x scopes and shooting sticks. Although next year on my trip to Maine I may have something lower magnification. One thing, in maine you don't have to worry about meat spoiling in an hour.

Hundred percent right but most die hard trackers push the limits and practice further than they normally shoot so when it's 70 and under it's a instinct.

Yes . Somebody else who dislikes Drury and Bowmar. Through in the Warren's, Lakosky's and now most the Realtree crew. Own a game farm or buy a deer, sit in a box blind or a tree stand that has been set for you. I will hunt from a stand bit I scout and place them where I think they might work. Alot of times I set out with my Climber on my back and my pack strapped to my climber. Model Six pump in 30-06 . Killed alot of deer this way as well as from the ground. Real hunting.

Thst is an awesome deer- I hunt the NE Kingdom if VT and got mine second week of the season, nice 7 PT nothing like what you got there. He looked like one of those big corn fed bruisers you see out in Iowa ..... that was a great hunt and glad to see you and your dad stayed on him . @@MaineOutdoorEnthusiast Love your rifle/scope combo, and the video you did explaining your choice. After watching your videos, and others like them, I've decided I'm going to start doing allot more "timber cruising" for elk this year. Our pine covered mountains at 8k-10kft are typically less dense than your timber. So, bought a new old stock(stopped production in '92) Sako Forester Mannlicher carbine in .308. Waiting for it to arrive. Picked up a vintage USA Burris 3x-9x mini at the gun show last weekend, and a friend gave me some vintage Sako rings to match! Pretty pumped! Thanks for your videos brother!

Absolutely outstanding video. Congratulations to you guys on may levels. Making a shot that far, not giving up, recovering the deer and a monster deer at that. Well done, you guys truly are an inspiration. My vacation starts next week and hitting it everyday. How did you end up with the meat, was anything salvageable? All the best to your dad for the remainder of the season. Regards Mark

Congrats on being able to recover the buck. But you should have just given him a couple hours to expire on his own. You pushing him right away after the shot is why he live as long as he did. You could have saved yourself tracking for miles.
