Hey... I absolutely loved the drone shots of wheeling wv, I grew up in that town, and is where I'm from, there is a lot of history that was made there. It is where west Virginia was born during the civil war, and also our suspension bridge at one time was the longest in the world, it opened in 1849.. at 174 years old is still in existence. It is also an historical landmark, and is on the registry...

Man, driving sketchy cars ANY distance is the most stress-inducing thing to me. Respect.
@commodorenut

Completely agree. Having done this myself 20 years ago, I’d much rather watch other people do it these days. Unless you’ve been there yourself, you can’t understand the feeling of dread when things go wrong, and you’re stranded so far from home. It is so stressful. I took over a week to bring a car home 1200km (approx 730 miles). It had been parked for nearly 10 years. The seller put new tyres on it (at my cost) and had the oil changed. He also had a mechanical check to get a 4 week permit, so I could drive it home without registration. Told me it was all good, and ran great, But he’d only driven it a few miles at a time. Not long enough to uncover the issues that were ready to bite me. Within the first 15 minutes it began overheating. I don’t know how many times I flushed the cooling system, and even pulled the thermostat, just to keep the needle just under the red. I spent ages adjusting the ignition timing in the hope that would help, but it didn’t….. on the last day before home we had to stop every 30km or so to refill the water that was being ejected out the overflow as steam. It also developed numerous electrical & fuel issues. I blew heater & radiator hoses several times. Fortunately my wife followed in the daily driver, so I had a “parts runner” on call. She complained about spots on the windscreen that smeared with the wipers. I checked the oil at the next stop…. Had to add 3 litres (a bit over 3 quarts). Each time I stopped for fuel I had to add 3 litres….. Many times I had people tell me I should have trailered it, or paid a shipping company. At one point 500km from home I nearly gave up, and started making plans to store it in a safe area to come back with the trailer, but couldn’t get anywhere I was comfortable with, so we pressed on. Once I made it home I realised how much we achieved, and how it was so worth it to do that trip. I restored it over 3 years, and reminisced so many times about that drive home. I’m a different person because of it.

I remember driving thru that tunnel around 1966 driving from New London, Ct to Ft Stockton, TX on my first leave after being stationed on a submarine based in New London. 18 years old, 1st car (1965 Malibu 1st time ever on a turnpike, and big first time driving thru a tunnel!! . A little spooky but overall a great trip! Thanks for the memories!!!

Here's one of my road warrior tips on my way back to California from Oklahoma, I got behind a diesel truck and was drafting him, about 90 mph when his rear tire threw up a rock it blew a 1 inch hole through my radiator, well I was about 10 mi from Kingman middle of nowhere no water and none in sight anywhere, all I had was a case of beer generic it just says beer on the can , I took about four cigarettes apart and put the tobacco down my radiator cap then I poured the entire case in there and it almost topped off my radiator. The next 4 hours I was able to drive home Non-Stop I open my radiator cap the next day and you should have smelled the beer and tobacco breath that my truck had . tobacco will seal up any radiator leak and the good thing about it it disintegrates in a few days and doesn't clog anything up

Everyone else is saying how much they enjoyed this presentation and I have to join them. Your videos are a notch above anyone else's. We get to see the flyover states and parts of the USA that folks never get to see. I loved your previous coming across the states video with the station wagon, and now this one. Definitely top shelf entertainment. There is a fearless approach to the problems that come up - "Oh, it needs a new pinion seal - no problem, I'll do it with a rock." Not quite, but your fix-it attitude and "get 'er done" really comes through. The chemistry you all share, Jen, Chris, Gus & Turbo are all truly heart warming. Thank you SO much for these epic journeys - for bringing us along, sharing your experiences. Considering what could go wrong, the fact that you made it home demands respect from us viewers. Any time you want to upload a video, you've got a loyal following for sure! Thank you!

I had a 1991 Suburban 4x4 with a 350 and TBI that I used for adventure camping while in Utah. The vehicle never let me down and had almost 200,000 miles on it, got 19.2 mpg on flat interstate. It was so dependable that I never had an oil leak, never had a valve cover or the oil pan off. Had it all over the west and slept in the back all the time (no tent just a canopy for rainy days).

Love these road trip videos Chris. Obviously it's not financially viable to do it regularly but thanks for sharing!

This video is more an experience than something to watch. Its also really nice to have a spouse that will share a beer with you at the end of the day. Top notch and 80s music to boot!

Epic. I really enjoy your cross country adventures, not knowing what you are going to run into or find - and you and Jen bring us along for the ride. We live in a beautiful country - thanks for showing it to us.

Really glad I found this channel, great content, really gets into the nuts and bolts of practical ways of getting things working. Great call on the TBI relay, I probably would have lost patience and found a cheap 4bbl manifold and swap meet Holley to put on there. But working fuel injection for a cruiser, especially cross country, is hard to beat.
