Good video. My son has one of these and I have a number of Cold Steel knives and they all impress me. There are two reasons for the high polish on the blade. You can use it to reflect the sun to signal, and the better the polish on stainless steel the better the corrosion resistance under conditions like salt water. Your throwing skills have improved!
@buckaroobunnyslippers4 жыл бұрын
I bought this months ago on your recommendation and totally impressed how well it's held up. It's not going to replace my bk-9, but it's not supposed to. Added a mini tube of krazy glue, med and water tabs, some fire cotton and waxed matches, and wrapped the sheath in paracord. It's so light and cheap, you can throw it in a bag, glove box and forget about it until you're stuck. Thanks for doing these hollow knife reviews without any of the "I'd never use a knife that isn't full tang." nonsense. The light duty, cheap tool you have on hand is a hell of a lot more useful than the perfect one ya didn't bring that day.

Wow. Rambo meets Mora. This knife is a winner for sure. This knife was obviously inspired by Mora with the polypropylene molded handle and Scandi style grind plus the poly sheath with mounted ferro rod. The survival kit was well done with useful items. For Bushcraft work including light batoning, this is a good choice and reasonably priced. Thanks for showing this knife. Cold Steel has produced a keeper here. Regards Larry

@mackykintanar7489 Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry but I can't see this as a good idea: 1. You get a false sense of security thinking it is strong. 2. You lost the storage feature which is the reason for buying it in the first place. A comparatively priced full tang knife would actually be better
@imbadwrench Жыл бұрын
the amount of storage lost was minimal. I could feel the blade moving in the handle doing simple tasks. tasks that a mora would do without a problem. the epoxy made the difference between this going in the bag with my pellet rifle or in the drawer with my old rambo knife.

I caught the orange one on some type of Amazon Prime discount a few years back, and got them for 8 bucks each, without the goodies in the handle. No problem, got 4 of them, have given a couple as gifts, have one in my get home bag and one in the gun safe with the other 80 or so knives I consider 'just in case'. I have a LOT of Cold Steel products, including 3 machetes I use daily in my job as a land surveying crew chief. Great review, very comprehensive, and yes, they are razor sharp right out of the box.
@chemgeek68685 жыл бұрын
I would highly caution you about recommending this knife. Like you, I am a Scoutmaster and Cold Steel enthusiast. I bought this knife almost a year ago and showed it to the boys as a cheaper alternative. Much to my chagrin, it developed a problem with the short tang starting to pop through the handle with only semi light batoning. If you'd like a picture, let me know.

Good to know! While I do believe this knife it tougher than a Mora, I do think you should probably treat it as you would a Mora (ie - avoid all but the most extra light batoning). If you really like the hollow handle, the CS Bushman are pretty cheap and tough :)

Nice review. There are a lot of knife snobs who will never give this knife even a basic look. This knife should not be your main camp knife, however it definitely makes a great backup knife with some great survival attributes. As you demonstrated it's sharp out of the box, light weight and a capable survival tool at a reasonable price point. Overall durability is pretty good if its not overly abused. It makes a good option for a day pack, as a backup camp knife, and for boating, kayaking and fishing. The small survival kit that is included is actually decent. Overall I have been pleased with mine.

For a couple of reasons, the Mora works good for my basic food prep and miscellaneous needs and I prefer the hatchet for any wood harvesting needs. I have also found that some people are put off by a large knife, but don't pay much notice to the smaller knife on my belt or the hatchet that is usually attached to my sling bag when camping or on day hikes. Perhaps a better design for a hollow handle would be something like a spear. Where the handle is created by flattening the metal and bending into a tube to fit shaft into.

I also had the Special Project that Chris agreed to cut down to a 6” blade and a Shadow IV, both of which I sold long before he stopped production on these hollow handled knives. All were fantastic, but the Ubejane fits my needs more than the others - it is similar (if only in my mind) to a Nessmuk pattern knife. I added an orange plastic heat shrink coating to the handle as the bare steel got a little cold in very chilly weather. I have had no problems with this coating.

I have a couple survival edge knives. For what they can do they are awesome. And they don't hardly weight anything. The steel is pretty good, and they are easy to sharpen. The 5" blade is just big enough to baton with, and still small enough that I wouldn't mind dressing and butchering a deer with it. Great video Brian, don't let the haters get you down. I bought a $2.00 Walmart Mora knock off because I didn't want to lose my Mora on a canoe trip if gear got dumped, it was really sharp, did well on the trip but just because it was sharp didn't make it good. I always sharpen my knives after use and I still have that knife and carry it in my gear to loan out if someone forgot their Mora, yea it's a POS but it works 2 years later, so sharp doesn't mean its good, or that it will hold an edge, but this $2.00 knife did, but it's like the old joke about riding a moped, it'll get you there, but you wouldn't want a friend see you riding one, this Billybay ? knife works but I always carry my Mora now, and not that I think about it that seems wrong, I guess I shouldn't be worried about name brand stuff if it works, and most of the knives I have are from overseas anyway.
