£2800 Watch You Want vs £280 Watch You Can Afford (Tudor black bay 58 vs Zelos Swordfish 40 2020 )

So I have finally got some free time to get some more content up. In this video I look at a cheaper alternative to the Tudor Black Bay 58. The watch in question been my Zelos Swordfish 40mm Black Sand, which costs a 10th of the price. Elshan as always has put his make on this lovely watch. So sit back and have a watch ;)

I was lucky enough to buy a black sand swordfish 40 when they were first offered. I also felt it had strong design cues with the black Bay 58, that's why I bought it. I wear the swordfish everyday and enjoy it very much. I will never own a luxury watch so this swordfish has scratched the itch for me.

Great comparison. As much as I like Tudors and I have a few of them, I think Zelos are great value for money. They do the job well and they look very good. I have a few Zelos as well 🙂.

An audacious comparison, yet it works somehow. My dad has a BB58, so I have experience with that watch. And we all know my history with Zelos. The Zelos does stack up well, but the Tudor is of course a higher end watch. But I'm fine with the Zelos and pocketing the change. And there is that fact you point out that the Zelos is actually rarer and more exclusive that the Tudor. Interesting twist there, yes? Well done video. Mr. Zelos approves.

Yeah was a bit of a risky video, i expected some back lash. But I am not comparing apples for apples just two amazing watchs in two price brackets. And put it this way i have seen more BB58 about and only ever seen one SF40 ;)

I do appreciate micro brands and Zelos is one of them. Very well said, the Tudor has one of the best bracelets. It is an Oyster bracelet, designed for Subs, Explorers, GMT and extended to Tudor BBs, exception, the Pelagos. A modest, yet solid and simple. Elegant but at the same time a tool component. Proportion , case thickness/bracelet is perfect, the right one. The links can be removed for sizing easily with just one long screw, one very solid screw that no matter how many times will be removed, will not wear out. The Zelos comparing case thickness against the bracelet thickness, IMHO is disproportional, too slim and if not mistaken (unless this model's links have a different screw) the links are joined with a long very slim screw. On two different models I had issues with the screws/links, and I've watched vids regarding the exact same issue. Although the thread might be weak or easily corrupted or the links reception or both. I've noticed this on one more micro brand so far and I believe this problem would be with all same-screw method. Now, I do feel this comparison is a bit unfair on the basis the Tudor is x10 the price of Zelos, but then again Tudor will through extensive quality control and the buyer won't have to worry so much. I do feel that I must add, in one of the vids I've watched Zelos either offered to replace or replaced the bracelet just not sure how was the replacement. Couldn't go through the hassle of sending and waiting and had mine fixed at the local workshop but I do keep an eye on the bracelet in case a screw gets loose. When Omega introduced screws to replace pins in the SM and PO lines (and ceramic inserts) I was thrilled and updated my collection. The pin is a pain when adjusting bracelets but when a company is not 100% of their screws and their quality/durability, the pin is by far more reliable. Zelos make amazing watches. For the money.. Tudor is another level, but you can get some Zelos models with ETA movements, or even the Miyota 9100 series movements that are 80% of what a Tudor is, for 1/5 the money. It really comes down to this. Do you want an entire watch collection for $3000 or do you want a single watch for $3000?

You have fit the nail on the head i think, i have a Zelos Horizons with a ETA 2893 in it and in all honestly build wise thats closesure to the tudor. But 10 watchs for 3K or 1 watch for the price. :)

Sold my SF40 black sands - didn't like the hand set with the gold and lume colour , was just a little too much for me , still on the look out for a teal or green SF40 though , your Tudor is stunning - grail piece i'll sadly never own :) enjoy it mate

Now ive got a Tudor 1;1 copy rivet bracelet,without any Tudor branding,but the clasp etc exact copy and it seems good quality but hollow endlinks

in my opinion Zelos looks more interesting, this is the first. Second, buying Tudor in the eyes of those who understand in the watch industry you look like a person who did not have enough money for a Rolex and please don’t argue this is true. Buying Zelos 99% of people have nothing about this brand have not heard, but this gives you the advantage of telling you that this is a relatively new micro-brand that is not sold in stores and is very popular among watch lovers. I recently purchased Mako V 3 and I can say that the quality is excellent, the bracelet is perfect and no Seiko for 500- 600 $ on the level of execution falls short.

People who understand the watch industry definitely do not think people only buy a Tudor if they can’t afford a Rolex. The people that say that are those that don’t understand the watch industry and can’t afford a luxury watch themselves. Tudor is at the top of their game right now and breaking away from just being Rolex’s little brother. Sorry but your way off the mark on that one.

Zelos make some killer pieces for the price. Tudor are a few levels above but if you believe the experts they're also good value.

Thanks mate, and i am planning on a follow up on the hydro mod. Hasn't leaked once however has stopped no doubt due to the extra drain on the battery. Messy job to replace though haha

Perhaps you would have been better off comparing the Zelos Mako, as it has a better movement than the Swordfish, and is less industrial. That said, I own the Zelos Swordfish 42mm TI, and it's a marvelous watch. The Tudor is a wonderful watch, and is aesthetically superior. A Chris Ward C60 Trident would give the Tudor a real run for it's money. I think you will find a service on the Tudor will cost more than a few hundred quid

Many be, i do have a Mako v3 and is an amazing watch but design wise i do find less comparisons so went with the SF. One what i really want to get my hands on is a CW but can't get away with the logo.

When you put them side by side you have to say the Tudor looks better, but I agree that you get 90% of the value for 10% of the price. A very good alternative and I would say much better than the Chinese knock-offs that you get on Ali-express.

Yeah ofcourse, the Tudor is an amazing watch hence why i saved up and waited 4 months for it haha. But the SF is just such amazing value and has a some design in common with the BB58 i had to compare them haha

instead of saving and waiting for a real BB58 - you can always buy a chinese knock-off of a tudor and replace the chinese movement by an ETA 2824 sourced from a Calvin Klein watch.... sounds familiar?
