Great video. Just had my glycine combat sub sorted with the same problem. I used a local watchmaker in south London who charged me £30! That included removing 2 links from the bracelet. Bargain.

I bought a FNGeen Rolex Hulk homage about two weeks ago during a sale. It was an automatic. It went belly up yesterday. Only $8 USD, so not a huge loss.

How did it do over the years re leaks? Battery change would be messy I expect...

Lasted fine, battery latest 1.5 years which all honesty will be due to the oil drag. Changed it in oil bath like when I made it and had no issue. As for leaks I have had none so far and it sitcks in the same watch box as my other watches :).

my PD-1639 stainless steel Green watch with a green Nylon strap band, arrived two weeks ago & I wore it for the best part of the two weeks. During the night if I woke up the loom always lit up great. After I watched your vidio I just ordered the PD-1651 in Rose Gold with a Black Rubber Strap band. Its the first watch I have ever owned thats not stainless steel or is Gold. Being a little different to the PD-1639 I'm very exited as I love the PD-1639. That will make it nine Pagani Design watches I think. So far the quality control has been brilliant.

Hilariously I have a JeanRichard Chronoscope with a SW200. It hand-winds perfectly but the automatic winding does nothing. Not quite a workhorse movement.

I have both and like both, Heimdallr has done an excellent job on this "clomage" I prefer my Seikos but love the Sapphire on the Heimdallrs. I gave a black Heimdallr to a coworker today and now I need another......

I really enjoyed that, thanks, best explanation yet. BTW, you put the caseback on upside down, but I’m sure somebody has already pointed that out 😉 I’m going to try this with a dirt cheap Chinese Seiko Tuna inspired watch; should be fun.

I have a Croton with the ETA 2834-2 movement that’s in for regular service, but I will definitely take good care of hand winding it as little as possible. I will probably keep it on a watch winder instead. I’m also picking up a used Croton with the ETA 2836-2 movement and I will be checking out if it has the broken gear problem. If not I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen.

I'm going to do one, been thinking about it for a bit. You pushed me over the edge, I think a silver bezel insert and a gray sailcloth strap would look nice on a sandblasted titanium case.

Very interesting I got a steinhart OMV from a far east dealer no problem with his input, I wasn’t wearing the watch much but when I started to wind it it felt really horrible and noisy grating sound though it worked fine time keeping was good I did send it back to steinhart in Germany they said there service watch expert said it was all ok, it’s my belief they did nothing the after sales and customer service is not good. It’s a shame as I was keen on buying more from that brand but have decided I’ll spend my money somewhere else

The teeth out of the ratchet wheel and clicking is a symptom of the fault. The cause is usually incorrect or thickening of lubrication of the reverser wheels. When manually winding the watch this can take up to 3x the effort to wind. The ratchet wheel was never designed to take this much torque so the teeth snap off, and sometimes windmilling can occur. The £250 rip off is very likely to include servicing to ensure the teeth don’t get wedged under the barrel and scratch up the barrel, bridge or main plate. Also, cleaning and replacing the reverser lubricants will help prevent it happening again.

Nice - Just in case any loose teeth move about so eventually cause wider damage, and rather than stripping down and cleaning everything, would holding the open-back watch upside down and shaking it for a bit, help any loose teeth drop out ? Albeit by doing so, there is a risk that loose teeth could be deposited elsewhere sooner.

This is a very common issue, and I have seen it several times. Is there a reason that the brass ratchet wheel isn't made of a stronger material?

My Seiko SNK809 cost nearly $200 It is basically a tiny scout watch that runs at +27 second per day My Steeldive SD1970 cost $50 It is basically a beautiful homage to the Seiko Willard, has insanely bright lume, looks amazing and runs at -7 seconds per day. I dont trust big brands anymore. Especially when they are putting WORSE movements into their own watches than they are selling to third party Chinese watch companies.

Is it possible to do a movement swap for Tissot PRX 35mm from the Powermatic to these movements? I am worried about the anti-servicing characteristics of the Powermatic. So instead I plan that when it comes the time for me to service the watch, I'd just swap the movoment with either 2824 or ws200. But again, the problem is "will it fit?".

There was a time when the only way to get the look and reliability of a Seiko dive watch was to buy the real thing, because Chinese knock-offs couldn't survive a shower, much less an ocean dive. Now that's changed. The Steeldive comes with 200 meters of water resistance,, a Seiko movement,, sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel and a comfortable steel band lasting as long as the watch. Given the choice between a Seiko reproduction for $1,200, or $67 for the Steeldive "homage," the choice is easy.
