Hello guys! Here is the second part of this cool top-down fake height shadow effect/illusion. In this part we will create cool debris/splatter system for our melon. The debris/splatter is of course based on our fake height system as well. We will apply the same system for a bomb in the end of the episode. Hope you find it as great-looking as I do!

another great tutorial. just a suggestion, when you do the arrow tutorial, can you also show us how you make the shadow change size when the "projectile" is in the air. do you just change the scale depending on the distance of the main sprite and the shadow? or did you animate it, for the pixel ball one? also... at the moment, you set a random range for the vertical and ground velocities, how would you go about making it land where your mouse clicked in the world? thank again for these tutorial, i learned so much. instead of having the particles stick, i have them bounce, and also added a function where if the groundVelocity reached zero then they would disapear

thanks for the tutorial. okay. this is just about the graphical thing. could you make a tutorial how an actual collider then would hit sth? maybe in the arrow tutorial later. thanks.

I think many people (including me) will be interested on how you did your particles in submarino (Like the shark death particles). Just a suggestion!

I usually don't bother using SerializeField because public is faster to write lol. I can always switch public to private whenever i don't have to access the variable through the inspector anymore.

Unfortunate that you dropped that project. It looks like there are not many videos explaining how to make this fake height shadow effect. I wonder, why? I hoped to see more. There are several problems with this shadow effect. For example if a object is already grounded, why should the shadow of a new instantiated object be under the already grounded old object. So if a object is grounded it should change its sorting layer maybe. And....if several shadows overlapping, the should not be additive, so it gets darker and darker where the shadows overlap. I guess with a custom shader this could be solved.

one year later, coming back to this tutorial, lol. just realized, between video 1 and 2 you added a destroy function in FakeHeightObject you never mentioned and instead of where you left last video, you now destroy the object when it hit the ground. i didn't know that at first and had some kind of endless particle explosion, lol.
