In protecting your base, try this : 1. Line the outside of your base with one or two rows of spikes, all the way around. 2. Outside the spikes, you will dig a moat all the way around your base. It will be two blocks down and at least two blocks wide. You will be placing in log spikes with barbed wire (flat) across the top of those spikes. The wire will slow down the zombies and rip their limbs off, all the while they'll be taking damage by the log and stick traps.

The first method still works in alpha 18, now that guns are more easily acquired and theres perk trees for each type you can modify the construction so that you have overhead protection from the vultures you can use this strat all the way into the latest parts of the game and i used this modified version all the way until day 140 in alpha 18 b143 due to its simplicity, and its cheap cost to construct and maintain although it becomes harder to maintain in late game because as the horde nights get harder the amount of damage the hordes due grows, i would also recommend using pipe bombs from above and increasing the height from 3 blocks up to 5 so that way you don’t take any explosive damage, its an incredibly fun way to get through the horde nights quickly and you can build this base literally anywhere and layer it to infinity adding workbenches chemistry stations cement mixers and storage units as you see fit, in my latest playthrough i added an active electric fence and spinning blade traps to the outside to increase the dps and give some added oomph as you want to keep the zombies away from the base at all costs for ease of maintenance later on

When you start is very hard, but when you learn the zombie AI is actually very easy, just always be on top of the zombies, or underneath them, if you're not prepared and have 0 defenses, just find a 2 or 3 floor high house, small apartments works best, and destroy all the access to the top and replace them with ladders and hatches, if you remove the bottom ladder they can't climb up, and it will work with 0 defense, as you just have to wait for them to die.

I used same structure (method 1) until horde day 49-50 came, oh man, no matter how much I tried to repair they destroyed all the pillars and all the structure came down to the ground with all the floors on top including my stored inventories my forged and crafted stuff all was lost, and that's was it.. back to square one, I was kinda shocked but all in all the experience was kinda fun :D I don't regret it.

I did mine a little different but used strategy one as a basis. Dug 3 blocks deep, used brick for pillers, pillars were 3 blocks away evenly on the fourth square, I had iron bars till they fell from weight wood cat walks work in the middle as you can still shoot from opposite sides. got hit once on a fluke 21st day. thanks for video

Honestly, building a hole downwards where the zombies can't get you sounds like a good last-resort emergency escape plan, if ever your well-fortified defences do get breached. To survive day 7, I just went for a classic 3-block wall. I initially made it a 2-block thick wood wall, but then also added a 3rd layer of cobblestone, and dug a ditch filled with spikes on the outside. Survived day 21 without much struggle, but I don't know how much longer can this tactic last until the horde gets too big. Thus, I might consider building a hole downwards as an emergency hideout, if things ever go wrong.

I just bought the game too. last night was my first horde. I gutted a 3 floor building of its stairs, re-blocked all the windows and doors, placed 2 rows of log spikes and almost had enough wood spikes to make it around the place. I took wood ramp frames and flipped them upside down so I could walk on them and shoot down. haha by time I finished my roof top meal and filling up on water most of them had died. the building it's self only lost one brick block from a fat tourist who put his head into a log spike after he lost his legs.

Just find an abandoned house with ladder acces, get up, block the ladder and wait until morning. If you stay at one place during the whole night, the zeds will only destroy part of the house under you so that the rest of the house will hold the structure and won't fall. Killing them druring 7th night is pointless in matters of defending yourself, because everytime you kill one, a new one spawns.

I haven't because it just turns zombies into bullet sponges which is not fun for me. Playing on insane just increases their hp, which means yoire gonna have to shoot for the head all the time to get that bonus dmg, no magic behind it. Use traps to slow them down and get better shot

I just claim a house and fortify it. As of now I have dug complex bunker under it where I will escape when I can't hold main building. Long tunnel with shooting positions and all made with cobblestone, scrap blocks and different shoot trough steel blocks etc.

+My2Cents Zombies in A15 so take fall damage but has to be very deep and you need to be sensed, sometimes its hard to get them to jump to their death. (Basically you need to be in the middle of put but higher than pit for them to jump down)
