The only compliment I ever had from a woman in my life was from my grandmother on my college graduation day. I came out in a suit ready to leave. She took me by the hands and said "I looked like a fine young man" When i think about that today. It still makes me smile. Many times men don't take compliments well because we never get them.

Compliments are another way to say I love you. The more specific the better. When I compliment my man it strengthens our bond. His love language (other than touch, ha!) is acts of service. Probably the biggest thing I learned after my marriage ended was to compliment not criticize. I just think about how I want to be treated.

One of the first times my girlfriend and I went to her parent's place, I overheard her mom ask her if she should check on something I'd done or was doing. My girlfriend's response was "No, I trust his judgement." Meant a lot, definitely one of the better compliments I've received.

Thank you Robert and Silke for this important segment. I agree with so many, especially when Robert said "a man that can make a woman laugh is sexy". I'd take it farther and call it foreplay! My dad could always make my mom laugh and I paid attention to how she responded. My LH was a goof and I appreciated that so much. Towards the latter part of our life together, I complemented him more because it was just us again and I recognized it. I appreciated him and should have said it more. Who doesn't want to feel safe, and secure? I remember people during the lockdown saying that they learned they really like their partners! I thought that was interesting! 🥰🤗

Compliments are so important for both men and women.. both need to regularly tell each other their hot, beautiful, handsome, etc... it's not a vanity thing.. we know we're not movie stars... but we want to know our Love finds us attractive.. and not just once or at the beginning of the relationship.. regularly!! Will go a long way towards feeling bonded.. of course there's so many other areas of things to compliment.. but this one is important! Thank you both for another great conversation!!👏👏🙌

My mother told me when I was a teen-ager that no compliment was too extreme or far-fetched for a man to believe. I tried it out and total my boyfriend that a girlfriend had seen him driving in town and thought he was there to make a movie. He fell for it completely. I've used the suggestion once in a while and never been disbelieved. But there was one fellow who needed a steady diet of praise and lavish compliments, and that got old pretty fast.
@DougHardy541 Жыл бұрын
Robert is on target with emphasizing that “authenticity” is key with the compliments, whatever they are concerning. Frequency is important too. A constant stream of compliments, even if well intentioned, is typically viewed as fake. Specifically about appearance, men receive orders of magnitude fewer compliments about their appearance than women do -they do carry a special weight. A woman will often tell her girlfriends that her guy (or someone she’s interested in) is “hot”, but never ever tell him directly she’s physically attracted to him.

I think complimenting anyone for the effort they put into themselves to make the relationship better, should be complimented and appreciated as it's not that easy at our age to change old habits. Bottom line is that we should take notice, be aware and appreciative of the other person, then you wil notice and give sincere compliments and please don't overdo it as that starts sounding very insincere very soon and you wonder what they want from you!
@2ndActTV Жыл бұрын

I’ve been married for 25 years, but I like tuning in to remind myself that I still need to be fresh and loving towards my husband; something that we can often take for granted after years of the daily grind. I know when it was mentioned to give a compliment as a question, it caused me to cringe. My husband often tries to compliment me with a question like: “you’re pretty hot aren’t you?” And I have always had a difficult time showing him that I’m receiving it well. It makes me self conscious. I used to act silly and say “oh yes!” But it usually just came across super goofy and I don’t think he actually thought I felt complimented. I usually now just say: “well, I’m so glad you still think so!” I think a statement overall is easier to receive, but probably more difficult to give.

Compliments mean a great deal when paid casually. If you make a big song and dance about paying a compliment they can often come across as forced and false. If you walk past your partner when they're looking in a mirror a quick squeeze or peck on the cheek and a "looking good babe" can work wonders.

As someone who has had and trained dogs for 25 years, your complaint is often a result of (1) the dog owner not having training themselves on how to train their dog, or (2) your having different expectations than the dog owner. In my home, my dogs are welcome on the furniture and sleep in bed with me. Sometimes they pull on leash and that is a work in progress - training takes time. They are allowed to briefly bark to alert me to something, then they stop when I acknowledge it or they come back in the house. Really my point is if you and your partner have different expectations for your partner’s dogs’ behavior, you best work that out sooner rather than later. I have made concessions on my pets in past relationships, and will not do so going forward. I will hold out for a man who loves dogs and appreciates all the joy and love they share with their people. I am happier without a romantic partner than I would be without my dogs.

@@InDogsITrust This really could make a great topic! I totally understand where you're coming from! (At one point I had 9 dogs and 3 cats 🙂)
@InDogsITrust Жыл бұрын
Agree! Actually the non-dog-owner partner likely hasn’t trained dogs either and needs guidance on what cues and techniques to use with the partner’s dogs. An outsider shouldn’t expect all dogs to understand their expectations or cues. It reminds me of the Will Rogers quote: “If you get to thinking you’re a person of influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.” 😊
@squaretriangle9208 Жыл бұрын
Compliments are nice, but do you really need to say most of these things, better is to show it through your immediate reaction, e.g. laughing about his humour, not saying it, oververbalization shows that other ways do not work
