I had 3 of those sod busters. I managed to use them until they became ice picks. My last one sits in my pocket right now. That green and black grime in the new knives is buffing compound. That is what they use for the final buffing before they pack the blades in shipping oil. An excellent knife. Thank you for the video. I am subscribed. Be well.

I recently bought one of these. I love it. It's nicer than my Case Sodbusters. The lock on mine works perfectly. The steel is great. I have absolutely no complaints. This is a great knife.

Cleaned it out with wd40 and a brush. Now no issues with the lock and the opening and closing although a little tight us now nice and smooth. Thanks for watching

I’ll bet it’s just manufacturing crud that’s keeping the lock from snapping into position. I get an audible snap when I open the blade on my knife. Good review George.

Good Video! Ive had this knife for a few years and I really like it. Ive never had the problem with it not locking up maybe like you said it just needs cleaning. When I got the Classic carbon barlow it was so tight it bent my thumb nail back until i discovered some black gunk in there so I sprayed some wd40 in there to loosen it up and then cleaned and oiled it and its fine. maybe that will work with this knife.

I had the same with a Buck 110 that was bought for me as a gift. I used WD-40 and operated the blade and lock for a long time and a couple of changes of WD-40. I then cleaned and dried it and added a little 3 in 1 oil. It works great now.

Don't worry. I have 4 RR's with this lock. It will wear in, just clean and oil it. I use mineral oil for pivots and vaseline for the blades. If it was perfect then when it wears in it would be loose. Also this lock pushes the blades off center, it's normal. If you open the blade halfway and then flick it hard the lock will work perfectly. I'm a retired carpenter and somewhere in the past I had that same wooden level I wouldn't be surprised if I still have it somewhere.
@2ndchancegeorge

Yep once I cleaned it up it works great. It's still tight so time will fix it. Never thought about Vaseline. Good idea. Thanks for watching always appriciated

It’s a nice knife good price must be a one off, good edge too. Liner lock give it a clean should be ok. Needs wearing in, in my opinion .

I suspect the swedge exist for two reasons… looks and practicality. Today’s customers like a little thicker blade stock so it allows for a better and finer point while making a thick stock. Also add contrasting lines, and some might say a defensive blade/tacticool look
@2ndchancegeorge
@2ndchancegeorge 2 жыл бұрын
Yes they do it to get a finer point. Tactical thing...stabbing. but it looks cool too. Thanks for watching and the support.

Since they give you a protruding liner lock you can always check it moved over? Maybe move it manually? I understand it may wear in or you may clean and oil it and then it may work but since we've seen it fail I'd feel I need to check it each time personally which with this design is perhaps a good thing? I'm sort of serious, I would probably push on the lock each time... I once had two different no name liner locks fail so I lean towards kickbacks myself... I do like the looks of this one ...

Yep the lock is just a hair too long. I've had a few over the years like that. The ones I could take apart I fixed. Not much to be done with that one. But being brass it should where down a bit with use

It’s because it’s dirty from manufacturing I’d imagine, and Case XX sod busters don’t even have liner locks because the liner lock pressure pushes the blade over out of center
@2ndchancegeorge
@2ndchancegeorge Жыл бұрын
Yep cleaned it much better

I know it's not the place of the consumer that buys the knife to do this, but an easy fix for the liner lock tab is to close the blade into the handle and take a woman's nail file and lightly file down the top of the brass lock tab just a tiny bit so it'll lock up each time. The tolerances have to be just right. If the lock tab were made of steel, it would have more spring in it and snap in place with more authority. Not so much with brass, the tolerances have to be loose to allow for the weaker spring.
@2ndchancegeorge

Lol...I prefer to fix then send back so appriciate the tip. I'll certainly do that. Thanks for watching always appriciated 👍
@Lex5576

@@2ndchancegeorge Oops! I told you wrong George. After looking a little more closely, I realize you'd never be able to file down the brass locking tab if the blade is partially closed. You'd instead have to file down the heel of the blade itself where the tab engages it. Either way, it wouldn't take much. Carbon steel is a little easier to work with a file. I love the patina you can get with time on carbon blades.
