They do have a pro choreographer, Mizuno Mikiko, who has worked with them since their Sakura Gakuin days. She's top notch. I read that she's working on the upcoming Tokyo Olympics
@mitchellhodgemeyer73064 жыл бұрын
MIKIKO has provided much Babymetal choreography, as well as choreo for other Amuse-related artists such as Sakura Gakuin and electropop superstars Perfume. She was involved in the closing ceremonies for the Rio Olympics, and was expected to be involved in the Tokyo Olympics. However, we probably won't get to see what she and her dance troupe ELEVENPLAY had in store for us, because the Japanese Olympic committee recently announced that they were cancelling a lot of the events and activities they originally had planned, and that next year's Olympics will be much smaller and with many fewer crowd-related activities - they even said they are cancelling the athletes typical welcoming event, which means the opening ceremonies may be without performances or fanfare. I and many others assumed that Babymetal and/or Perfume would be appearing, but that is totally in doubt now.

Good reaction. I think you can see why 'Megitsune' regularly tops fan polls for their favourite BABYMETAL song even though it was one of their earliest. It is also the song they have played live more than any other and remains a feature on most of their live set lists. Like their song Karate, 'Megitsune' reflects a lot of the Japanese culture starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen I think) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune) which in Japanese mythology are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody and this shows the inner strength of women through the ages (one lyric says about crying inside, smiling outside I think) - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens). The breakdown with the pig squeals uses the exact melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled the short blade (tanto) from her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). This is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. Much of the video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo. The 'Megitsune' music video and single came out on June 4th, 2013. Su was 15, and Yui and Moa were 13, (about to turn 14). Su will be 23 in December, Moa is 21. Their choreographer is Mikiko Mizuno, she is one of Japan's very best and co-ordinated Japan's contribution in the closing ceremony in Brazil Olyimpcs, she was also leading the choreo for the opening of the Tokyo Olympics this year until it was postponed. She worked with Su-metal before BABYMETAL was ever a thing when she was in the Actors School Hiroshima as a child and has been BABYMETAL's choreographer since they started, she also choreographs the J-Pop group Perfume. The girls have always had a say in their choreography, I beleive Mikiko would get them to move naturally to the music and would include some of what they did in their dances early on, but they have had an increasing amount of input over the years.

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🦊 ⛩ To quote the BABYMETAL members in the audio commentary they did for this song: [MOA] SU-METAL will slash you. Really. [YUI] Yeah. [SU] (laughs). 'Megitsune' is really the quintessential BABYMETAL song. They've performed it more than any other song, and it usually tops the fan polls. The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with the Movement Design group. Chidori Yakumo is their director. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown. The two younger girls, Yui and Moa, considered this song to have the most difficult choreography of all the songs on the first album. It made 'Doki Doki ☆ Morning' seem "soft" by comparison. Yui specifically asked for the windmill/electric fan headbanging, since she thought it looked so cool in the music video for 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' when they had a guy do it. So she was very happy when it was added to the choreography for this one. Yui and Moa used to learn a new song choreography in two lessons, according to interviews with the girls. They collaborate more closely these days with their choreographer Mikiko, helping to develop the dance moves, before she goes into her studio and develops the final version. Moa has assumed a lot of responsibility since Yui left the group two years ago, as far as making sure the "BABYMETALness" of the dancing is maintained with the addition of the supporting dancers.

They do have a choreographer, Mikiko Mizuno (no relation to Yui Mizuno) who is a great choreographer. She explained how she works with Babymetal. The girls come in and they play the song, and the girls dance the steps they envision, and Mikiko works with them to refine it into a routine. And Su does her own thing anyway, but that's another story. I think they got more direction when they were younger. I do know there are steps in this song Yui wanted added. The girls did a commentary to this video, and when Su pulls out the knife, Moa said, "Su will cut you. Really." Yui said "Yes". Su laughed. Su is the real deal.

Grington300 already got you everything you need to know. Just wanted to add to the cultural references, the "sore, sore" and "soiya, soiya" Moa & Yui, the two smaller girls, repeat throughout the song are traditional chants used at summer festivals and the traditional dances there. The one who left, Yui Mizuno, is on screen directly after you ask at 4:27. But they're so young in this video that it would be pretty hard to tell in later videos and performances. The best reference for me at the beginning to tell who is who was always that Moa, the one who's still in Babymetal, is the more expressive of the two. With her it's as if you always know from her face alone what she wants to convey to the audience. I can't remember what Babymetal stuff you've already done, but one of the main reasons why the fanbase always suggests watching live performances is because the band, Kami Band as you already know, only plays live shows. There's only one guitarist, Leda Cygnus, who played guitar and/or bass in 4 or 5 studio tracks, the rest is done by other producers and musicians. So the instrumentals you hear in the Megitsune music video and album track are not done by the Kami Band.

Great reaction to what is (probably) my favorite BABYMETAL song. I saw probably because it's so difficult to rank them when all of their songs are so good! I do love how they mix everything into this song that is quintessentially BABYMETAL: Amazing vocals to great lyrics, heavy instruments (both modern and traditional Japanese), the multiple Japanese cultural references, and of course, the kawaii aspect of it! The girl that left is Yui Mizuno, aka Yuimetal. She is the one with the chubbier cheeks. At the 1:28 mark when they show her and Moa, she is on the left of the screen. Also at the 4:10 mark of this when it cuts to the girls playing a game, she is the second one shown. There are still three girls when doing live performances, but the third position is swapped out between three other girls, called the "Avengers": Riho, Kano, and Momoko. They are strictly there to dance and have no microphones. They do have a professional choreographer. Her name is Mikiko Mizuno, or as they do the surname first in Japan, Mizuno Mikiko. She is just so good. That being said, the girls have had a lot of input over the years towards the choreography, to the point that I believe now Mikiko asks them to listen to the song and come up with some moves they feel would work being incorporated into the dance section. I take the message of the song to be that of women's empowerment. They are singing about how women have to wear make-up and smile, basically "wearing a mask" to hide their true selves or feelings, but you would underestimate them at your own peril. That last part is specifically said/insinuated when Su pulls out the Tanto from the microphone. She specifically says "Maidens...should not be underestimated!" when pulling out the blade. It's such a badass song and message to show that times are and should change.
@PENTA_pischner4 жыл бұрын

First off, did you notice that Su had the Knife/Mic in her hand throughout the video? When Su pulled the knife she said "Maidens are not to be underestimated". It's from a Japanese crime movie and is said by the daughter of the crime lord. Today when they are given a song Moa and Su workout the basic dance steps themselves, from there they work with Mikikometal to finish out the dance for the song.

"Megitsune" (メギツネ,) was released in Japan on June 19, 2013 as the fifth single from the album Babymetal. It is also the first single released independently from the idol group Sakura Gakuin. the full music video, directed by Takuya Tada (多田卓也), uploaded to the official Babymetal channel on June 4, 2013. When this video was release Su Metal was just 15 (16 if don't count birthday) while Yui Metal & Moa Metal was 13 (14 if don't count birthdays). Unlike screams in traditional heavy metal, "Megitsune" is filled with festival chants by Yui Metal and Moa Metal like "wasshoi" and "sore sore", while Su Metal sings in the melodramatic style of enka. Commentary from BabyMetal for this MV: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qommdGxpid2npNk The music video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo; it is now a popular spot for Babymetal fans from outside Japan to visit. The three members are shown dancing in Noh theater. In the last chorus, The song contains lyrics such as "from the time of birth, women are actresses" which reflect on the song's theme of women remaining strong when living with their varied facial expressions. The song relates foxes, which disguises themselves for deception in Japanese mythology, to women, who disguise themselves with makeup. According to Su Metal. foxes are similar to women as they can keep their true feeling hidden, even through hard times, leaving a cool impression. The last chorus contains the phrase "underestimate [maidens] at your own peril" (なめたらいかんぜよ, nametara ikan ze yo, literally "if you underestimate, it would be regrettable"), which is also famously said by Masako Natsume's character in the 1982 yakuza film "Onimasa"; whether or not this was intentional has never been confirmed.

FYI, you asked which girl left. When Su was in the screen you correctly said it was not her. The next one that popped up after that was Yuimetal. She is the one that left. 🙂

the one who left is Yui (yuimetal) and she’s the one who usually stands on the left in most of their things, live performances, interviews, photos, etc. The ones left are Su (sumetal) who is the lead singer and usually is in the middle (the tallest of the three) and moa (moametal) who usually stands on the right. Yui went on hiatus for her health for about twelve months because her doctor said she shouldn’t be performing but ended up being pulled out of the group a year later because she didn’t recover fast enough. Now to “fill the gap” the company tried a new concept with the band and added three new girls who are known as ‘ the avengers’, they usually perform with Su and Moa in their older songs and switch out when needed when doing Yui’s parts. Their names are Riho (Rihometal) , Momoko (Momokometal) and Kano (Kanometal). I hope this was helpful! Thank you so much for showing our beloved girls so much love and support 🤍 it truly means a lot to The One (fandom name according to Babymetal) that western hard metal fans are willing to give babymetal a chance and accept them as true metal🥺❤️❤️

A song I ask live is No Rain No Rainbow, but have some tissues ready because it is a tearjerker (and a slow sad ballad). There are live versions of Megitsune out there and it is amazing that these little girls (5'1" and 4'11") have control over HUGE audiences (50,000 plus) making them jump. 3) The Kami band is routinely changed out by Amuse (no one is indispensible-except maybe Su).

Hi Grannies. I'll not bother to really say much more as most of it was already answered. I saw somebody did indirectly answer your question about who left, but I might have missed other. Just in case though, Yui is the girl that left. She left due to medical reasons we've been told. Yui is the one with the chubby cheeks. Moa is the one with the dimples when she smiles. Both smile quite often, so just look for the dimples. I've seen people say Moa is always smiling, but I've always related Yui as the cheerful, happy-go-lucky always a smile on her face one. Doesn't really matter though, both are adorable, and we all love them all regardless. If I may make a suggestion for your next Babymetal song, I think you might like Rondo of nightmare with mischief of gods intro, or Akatsuki. Both will let you experience the Kami band a bit more, although the Rondo of Nightmares song has more of a Kami band appearance. I'd also recommend No Rain, No Rainbow Legend S if you'd like to see just how much power and emotion Su can dish out when she sings.

Some explanation of the song: Megitsune (meh - git - soo - neh) means "female fox" or "vixen" in Japanese. In Japanese folklore foxes are suspected of disguising themselves as women to trick humans (especially men). The song is about how women today are not these deceitful demons even though they have to be "actresses" in society always smiling on the outside even if crying on the inside.....but don't underestimate them (dagger in the microphone). Also, Yui-metal is the one who left in 2018 citing health issues.

I always thought the "u" is generally a suppressed vowel in Japanese? I thought it would be pronounced closer to Meh-Gits-Neh. I could be wrong though. Kind of how the name Daisuke is pronounced more like Dice-K than Di soo Kee

@@bwanner You are right. Either pronunciation works here.
@TheLeomarti4 жыл бұрын
@@bwanner It depends actually but I don't know the rules ahah, a lot of "u" are pronounced, you can hear it clearly when she sings "Meh-gi-tsu-neh" or the song Rondo Of Nightmare when she says "ah-ku-mu no ro-n-do" or simply her name pronounced "su-zu-kah", but quite often they are suppressed, for exemple "daisuki" pronounced "da-i-ski" or the famous "desu" pronounced "des". I guess it also depends on the dialect, man this is a complicated language xD

@@TheLeomarti I wondered when she sang the word if that was how it was typically pronounced in conversation. Or was that emphasis of holding the vowel for singing purposes since t, s, and n sounds aren't held in singing.

Their label and producer take care of everything having to do with BabyMetal. The Japanese music industry is very different from the US. In many ways, it's a lot like the studio system of Golden Age American movies.

If you want a Japanese band to react to that is very theatrical and performance art, I would highly suggest reacting to Dir En Grey - Macabre Live at Tabula Rasa.
