Dude. .you gotta be kidding me pulling the kickstarter down by hand of a 500 cc 2stroke? Good compression you say? That thing is toast. You wrecked it because lack of knowledge and bad handling. The way you ride it is asking for troubles. It's clapped and youre the one who gave it the last blow.
@2vintage5 жыл бұрын
You can do that with any quad/dirtbike. Obviously you can't do it super fast like kicking with your foot. You can pull it down slow on any machine.
@zepar2215 жыл бұрын
I started a few LT500R and they werent that bad, one was fresh build. I had a K500 on the other hand that I would not even attempt without boots on, The KX500 took a lot more force to push down by hand slowly, but it was not impossible.
@josh0123455 жыл бұрын
@2vintage Sure you can do it on anything with a kick starter ? but it doesn't tell you shit.. how many psi of compression does quad - is it in factory spec? what if the motors tight and has extra resistance what if the clutch is dragging and makes extra resistance when you press down on the lever... it literally tells you next nothing man. especially on big displacement engines , no matter what they're gonna be hard to turn over just to the amount of gasses you're squeezing- and even that a compression test doesn't tell you the health of a motor- a leak down test will tell you how much blow by their is you'll be able to find leaky gaskets and pretty much the over all health of the engine to an extent .. pressing down on a lever and saying " this has minty compression" means absolutely nothing, if i said that to a customer at the shop i work at I laughed outta there for incompetence man ... ridiculous.

@jakereintjes42575 жыл бұрын
Take the Front plastic off pull the radiator cap and start it if radiator fluid comes out of the top of the radiator like a fountain with the cap off then you have a blown head gasket that's a quick easy way to tell

@OGKILLa93655 жыл бұрын
Take off the radiator cap and check and see if the seal around it is cracked or torn, or it can also be that the spring on the cap is to weak I had that happen to my banshee and I replaced it and it fixed the issue. A worn radiator cap will cause the radiator to leak out coolant from the overflow cause it won't hold pressure. Take off the radiator cap from one of your other bikes and try it on the quadzilla.

Man I miss my lt wish I never sold her honestly

Sounds like a head gaskets to me I’ve owned 3 LT250r and there head gaskets are know to go bad pretty easy and u won’t know if the head gasket is bad unless u pressure test it. But gas and pressure will get into the system and cause it to pressure the coolant system and that is what makes the coolant come out the overflow
@zepar2215 жыл бұрын
Make sure your lower motor mounts are always tight and good. You can also eliminate the head stay motor mount to help with that problem. I ran a NOS 86 RM250G cylinder and head with no head stay on the LT.
@n2vxc5 жыл бұрын
i do give you a hard time but you can rent a pressure tester at most parts stores, there may be the proper adapter in the kit, you can pressurize the system and check for leaks...will save you alot of time and tearing apart things that may not need it..give it a shot or the cheaper way get some dye and the special light and look for the leaks. you will quickly pin point the source of the coolant. Also napa sells a head gasket text kit which test for gasses in the radiator. very cheap and will tell you that maybe head gasket is at fault
@Dwightsp265 жыл бұрын
Yep compression tester that oil is for transmission only there will be no coolant in there anyway it's a 2 stroke oil and gas mix in the base not just oil like a 4 stroke I'm not sure about the suzuki and it oil injection system i took them off my 250 r and banshee so u mix 2 stroke oil with the gas on these if there is a separate oil resivoir it still has a injection system and I take that off there there's alot of rust around the head on the cylinder I don't know how u are with the throttle but it seems like it's a little easy to hold on to

The radiator probably had too much Coolant and it over flowed but that quad was a deal man good buy
@shawn83635 жыл бұрын
Take the plug out, rent or borrow a compression tester, and try starting it couple times with open throttle to see what psi you’re getting. From what I looked up, the compression psi should be around 160 psi on a stock size cylinder. Not hard to do, but beats guessing by pushing the kick down.

Just make sure your overflow lines are all ok. I think that's where the coolant was coming from. I didn't see any coolant in the overflow bottle so it might be cracked. It is from the 80s so... I think everything is fine as long as you didn't see a bunch of steam coming from it. I an curious of what a compression test would say though. It seemed awfully easy to kick over for a 500. It should almost throw you off if you don't do it right. I used to be a motorcycle mechanic and raced a 87 Honda 250r so I know what goes into caring for old 2 strokes.

@rhysharvey31525 жыл бұрын
you did blow it up if you blew a seal and you have to split cases its blown and its worse than just replacing a piston cause you would need to spit it straight away to avoid the coolant damaging the internals and depending on the type of coolant it can stain the concrete floor
@TheBajanAmerican245 жыл бұрын
Head gasket. The bike get’s hot and the coolant boils over the overflow tube from the radiator which could be spraying coolant over the engine. You can’t check the head gasket without taking the head cap off. You can smell the coolant in the radiator and if it smells like 2 stroke fumes, your head gasket is blown.
@icantcomeupwithaname89255 жыл бұрын
Brian Stokes you can test a head gasket without taking the head off they sell coolant pressure testing kits to test for leak
@chrisbeekley18875 жыл бұрын
Brian stokes you absolutely can test a head gasket without taking it apart. You can put a coolant pressure tester on the radiator and start up the engine. If the gauge builds pressure then the head gasket is bad. Since the engine was just rebuilt I would assume that they just started the dam thing up and rode it. Should of started it up and got up to operating temp and then retorqued the cylinder and head gasket. The head stud nuts are probably loose and when it's getting up to operating temp and the studs are also stretching just enough to push the coolant out the overflow. When things get hot they stretch.

Before watching more then 2:00 of video it sounds like the cylinder head radiator hose has a leak where it hose clamps to the cylinder head.
@mc2_tech_reviews5 жыл бұрын
The only way to really check for leaks in the lines is to do a pressure test but without the pressure testing tool you can ride the quad for about 10 minutes to completely heat up and pressurize the cooling system and then let the quad sit idle and check. You could always add cooling system dye to the radiator first and then after the 10 minutes using the UV light included in your garage (low lighting works best) you can search for any leaking coolant/dye from areas where the coolant flows. It also could of been just too much coolant in the overflow tank and that would cause some to leak out the overflow tank. I dont think you have anything to worry about engine wise tho.

@jessestoz90575 жыл бұрын
Not one person in the comments thought about the coolant expanding when it gets hot. If it’s too full it will expand and go out the overflow. The the wind blows it all over.

those metal flakes in the radiator is a stuff call stop leak some one put in the cooling system, i bet it has a pin hole or 2 in the rad or some where in the cooling system
@addicted2fuel2455 жыл бұрын
Take the rad cap off and start the motor up. Let it run for a while and see if the antifreeze starts to move once it's at temp. If it doesn't move you will need a water pump. In my opinion you didn't let it get hot enough. If you have to prop up the rear end with a jack stand and let it roll through the gears to heat everything up and start looking for a leak. Also Antifreeze will leave a chalky residue behind once it dries

get an infrared thermometer and run it. see if it goes above 180-200 F. It was probably just overfilled by the last owner prior to sale.
@icantcomeupwithaname89255 жыл бұрын
You should not be able to turn it over by hand that easily especially when cold. And yeah, anyone can turn it over by hand but not as easily as you did. Reason for coolant leaking is probably coolant was overfilled or started to get too hot and came out the overflow. Could also be air bubbles In the radiator causing it to pressurize and come out the overflow as well, had it happen on a yz125 all I had to do was bleed the air bubbles out. Also little metallic pieces in coolant is probably stop-leak from the previous owner.

There should be a overflow hole in the side of the cases that you take the bolt out of to check the oil level from. When you have oil coming out of that hole coming it's at the right level. At least I know on most 2 strokes there is. Its usually by the kick starter or water pumpYou've owned how many bikes and don't know this?

@mckeesrocks1255 жыл бұрын
If you have any Metal flakes in your radiator then most likely bad water pump and it’s just over heating Went you take the pump off if it don’t spin it’s bad and if it spins real easy with some side to side movement it’s bad
@chrisbranham96075 жыл бұрын
It was probably draining from the overflow and splashing up from the wind under the bike
@zepar2215 жыл бұрын
The only way coolant would be in the oil is if the waterpump shaft seal is bad or somehow it was passing form the crank case past crank seal to trans side. It would be burning coolant and lots of white smoke would be present in exhaust. You needed to run the motor and look for the leak before you drained the oil. The trans oil would have been milky white/pink if contaminated and you probably could have seen that through the fill hole. Seems you have a lot to learn about being a mechanic and operating a motor at full throttle. Minty

If you own a 500 please put a inline temperature gauge in it. You know when it's cold you need to rejet right?? I have a 30 pilot and 410 main. Clip in middle of needle. And yes when it gets hot coolant will come out of your overflow. Check your water pump guys! Takes a few seconds. Remove the few bolts and see if the impeller is grinding into your water pump cover. It's a problem if the bolt is not loctited in they rattle out.. It's a left handed bolt on impeller. These machines are very powerful when tuned right so they rattle apart. Loctite is your friend!!! Compression test.... if you dont remove exhaust and look down and see if your piston has blow bye ect.
