The RCMP only found them because they were working with local Native folks and the guy leading them was a Fox Lake Cree Nation member called Billy Beardy, and allegedly, he was the urged the RCMP to look in a specific location due to spotting ravens circling the area.

yes!!! and the rcmp didn’t have the basic human decency to provide him with protective equipment, not even a basic helmet or bullet proof vest considering they were looking for active hostile shooters hiding in the woods

Remember when natives from YL said they heard 3 gunshots after they spotted Bryer and kam in the dump looking for food? And there was heavy rcmp military presence there? Yeah, and considering the fact that the description of the clothes one of the witnesses provided matches the clothes they were found in tells everything. RCMP wanted to keep the whole manhunt part going, even though those 2 guys were dead. There’s a lot more that went on. I’m a part of an investigation group with Bryers father and a WITNESS. The rcmp keep silencing this witness too.

tim's mom has said on a podcast called sword & scales that his body was so mutilated the medical examiner forebid anyone from doing a visual identification and the funeral home ultimately had to resort to putting what was left of him in plastic bags so he could be buried in a casket. in the same podcast she talks more about the details of the mutilation that weren't made public due to how graphic it is so.. tread carefully. hearing it made me physically ill.

I'm First Nations (Indigenous Canadian) and much of my family has tragic or horrifying stories about life as Natives in rural Canada. Just recently, my brother and his fiancée were visiting family in Alberta, and throughout their trip they were yelled at, ran off the road, and followed. I'm a Winnipeg resident, and recall when Vince Li was released. I can't remember the crime itself-- I would have been four at the time, after all, but the news of his release caught my attention. Nobody was happy about it-- protests were formed against it, and there was a lot of worry about him reoffending. Six years later and he hasn't-- but the concern still lingers. They actually let him wander Winnipeg and Selkirk unsupervised starting 2014-2015. Weird little (not very fun) fact, the same hospital that held Vince Li was holding another cannibal. Can't recall his name at the moment, and the case isn't super well known-- only reason I do know of it was because someone I know helped bring the victim to the hospital.

i really don’t think he’ll reoffend, unlike a lot of cases up here. out of all our most well-known crime, he was so far out of his head because of mental illness, and then when he was medicated, he was horrified by what he did. it may be unpopular, but if he’s getting support and stays medicated, i think it’s fine for him to be free. it’s unpopular, and i admit i would be uncomfortable if he was in my neighbourhood, but i think i could get used to it and accept it because he was genuinely fully dissociated from reality

@@ExperimentIV 100% this. He had reach such a deeply unwell state that in his mind he had truly thought he was doing good at the type. He hadn’t been diagnosed before, had never been prescribed medication and it was his first recorded psychotic break. I can’t imagine how horrified people would be if they ever experienced what he did. His shoes are difficult and uncomfortable for us to put ourselves in, though. If you’ve ever spoken to someone about their experience after a psychotic episode, in which they have fully dissociated, they are usually embarrassed, or ashamed, or horrified by their actions. this man, after being treated, had to come to terms with the actions of brutally killing an innocent man and traumatizing so many others when he wouldn’t have ever done so in his right mind. We can more easily understand how traumatizing it would be to be on that bus and to have seen what happened when we are told about the murder. We are looking at it from a lucid perspective. It’s an all around terrible crime. I do believe that this man will live the rest of his days without re-offending meow that he has been diagnosed and is receiving treatment.

Lisa was such a beautiful and kind person it seems and I can't stress enough how upsetting her case is. It really makes me so sad knowing how much her family suffered in their attempts to locate their daughter. My heart goes out to her friend Dallas also. Yeah its been awhile since the incident happened and it was obviously huge news when it did. Its been covered by pretty much everyone and I still see new videos like this popping up all the time telling the story like it hasnt been told 1.57 billion times already. Im American and heard this story right away and then repeated a thousand times right away by others and then having even more people just find out about it or something while they’ve been putting up videos about it since then and all the way up until now. Its kind of annoying and if its an individual video about it then I can just obviously skip the video and not watch it but it always amazes me like “did you just hear about this now or what?” Its kind of like Andrew Tate right now where literally everyone has to make a video about him but the only difference between that and this, is Tate is recent with everyone talking about it and the bus story was awhile ago with everyone talking about and still making videos on it years later but both are just oversaturated with videos that have been made by everyone. Its like “Enough! We get it! Move on. Come up with something new, different, unique, maybe obscure”

Corporal Ken Barker was the dad of a kid who lived in my neighborhood when I was young that I hung out with a few times. Never thought that such a high profile case would affect a family so close to home. Must have been really difficult dealing with the PTSD of seeing people being brutally murdered.

Really excellent to see somebody put in some work on some of the shocking stuff that has gone on in our country, especially considering our reputation of basically being the Swiss of North America. If you really want to go down the rabbit hole; do some deep digging on the Residential School situation outlined briefly in story 2... it is an absolute stain on the history of this country and a hole darker than anybody (victims aside) want to acknowledge. The whole residential school history and the reality of MMIAW (Missing and Murdered Indigenous/Aboriginal Women) is about as dark a history as you'll find. Hell, if you only want to go a little way back; dig into the "60s sweep". It's not good. Pour a beverage to soften the hit.

The case of Tim McLean scares the heck out of me because his killer is free and living out there someplace. From what I have read, Vince is not being heavily monitored by the mental health system to make sure he is taking his meds and that they are still working. What would happen if, for one reason or another, he decides he no longer wants to take his meds or if the meds stop properly working for him? How long would it take before he returned to the violent mental state he was in? I feel that though mental health conditions should never be “demonized” and that people with mental health conditions can live a healthy and productive life so long as they are continuing to receive the help that they need, I also feel that when someone commits a violent crime as severe as this one was, that it is vital that they remain under vigilant watch to make sure that they take their meds and that those meds are properly working for the safety of the public. I’m not saying they should be locked up in some hospital necessarily, but for the safety of themselves and the public, they should remain under very close outpatient care. And though I may be wrong, but from what I have read this man is not being strictly monitored, and if true, that scares the heck out of me. This is all just my own opinion though.

He’s expressed nothing but utter remorse from the moment he set foot in the courtroom. He wilfully cooperated with therapy and the legal system from then on. It’s not likely he’ll change on a dime and suddenly become a remorseless irresponsible person and stop taking care of himself, at least in the eyes of every medical and legal professional that’s in charge of the case. He will probably be attending therapy for the rest of his life for his own good. When you are so delusional and out of control off medication, you take that medication no matter what.

There was a rumour going around that Vince Lee would not even be reported to police if he should fail to pick up his meds. That got me furious. At least meds are free for most people, so the cost would never be an issue, but as our friend Cadaber said:" As long as he doesn't forget..."

There should be a required time to check that medication is being taken as needed. I wish it were an optional thing for people to request if they have certain illnesses that impact their lucid state or if they could have psychotic breaks. I think it would help them and the ensure the safety of others. I don’t think he should remain in prison. With medication, I don’t personally believe he’d re-offend. It does sound awful that there wouldn’t be follow ups on medication being taken though. Gah

@@realtacobell Medication has been proven to work for some people, its just extremely hard to get it to work due to the sheer amount of them that might have different side affects on you. Its also not meant by any means to be a solution, just a stepping stone to get you to the right place. Missing medication one day won't make this guy murder someone, or even for a week or a few months. It quite literally changes your brain chemistry and that takes a very long time to reverse. Don't spread misinformation, it hurts those who might get help by being on medication.

The sole function of these places, I know how hard this will be to believe considering the state of the states, is money. They're neither designed nor operated with the goal of rehabilitation. Most are little more than trap houses. I'm not saying I have any answers but I am saying that putting a guy like that in a place like that will likely only exacerbate his illness. It's yet another example of the depth of decay in both countries. Everything has been turned into a money machine. There's vanishingly few places to get any true help anymore. The system is completely overrun with far too many folks needing help and far too few providers who are being increasingly overworked. I have a genuine, deep and increasingly hopeless outlook on the future of both countries. Without serious overhaul of basically every institution, rather quickly, I see a bleak future coming. Sad as it is. I still have some hope but when the game is rigged and the referees are paid off, without some serious pushback, what can one do? The sheeple seem content to drink the koolaid and the few patriots remaining are meticulously attacked and either forced into silence, bribed, or eliminated from reinvigorating the fighting spirit of the American people.

I remember that first case well. I live rural Manitoba and the week it happened, an Australian couple showed up at our weekly community breakfast. They were cycling across Canada. We asked if they knew the victims, and they said they met briefly. They camped on our property that night and left the next day. That was when we heard that the killers had been spotted a little bit north of us on their way to Gillam. It was really unsettling. (Also it’s Na-nye-moh)

i would really like to see you cover the 2022 stabbings on james smith cree nation in saskatchewan. it was fairly recent, but i feel like its not talked about enough. it's one of the deadliest massacres in canadian history. would love to see a channel like yours explore that topic and the connotations about the lack of support sask has for drug addiction and the lack of support for indigenous communities. it would be very interesting to see you cover it!

Kudos for covering an MMIW case, they are shockingly under-reported. I hope more true crime channels follow suit, or that you return to other MMIW cases in the future. I find the last line of the section about Tim McClean rather frustrating, because it implies that Li/Baker presents some sort of lurking danger only held back by his own decision to take his meds. I understand that the way you ended the segment was probably just a throwaway comment in line with your channel's theme of looming societal dangers, but I'd invite you to reconsider. IMO, what you said perpetuates harmful stereotypes about mental illness, and implies that you're arguing would be better to keep Li locked up, in spite of the many experts who have determined using both data and direct analysis of the case that the risk of reoffending is virutally nonexistent. Thankfully, virutally all major media outlets in Canada have published editorials supporting Li/Baker's release. I found the Globe and Mail (Canadian NYT)'s editorial on the subject to be especially well-argued: "during such turbulent conflicts between emotion and reason we look to the bigger picture. Cases like Mr. Li's demand criminal justice dispensed for the broadest and highest public good, which includes clear-eyed consideration of mental health dynamics where they are present. This bigger picture teaches us that criminal justice outcomes driven by visceral reactions of the moment rarely withstand scrutiny. Our best criminal law responses to human tragedies must be thoughtful and rational first, and tempered by compassion second. So if the decision to grant Mr. Li more liberty is carefully analyzed and shown to reveal an unacceptable risk to public safety, it should be swiftly changed. But if the hue and cry in this case to protect public safety is, on careful analysis, really just code for a visceral desire to punish a mentally disordered person, that hue and cry should be resisted."

I lived close to Meadow Lake when K&B went through and I currently live near JSCN, so everyone was super on edge last year when the alerys would go off multiple times a day. I have an experience regarding the first story: I have the exact same car (same colour, year, make, and model). I forgot to register my plates at the exact same time that they were on the run in the province that I live in. Coincidencentally enough, their car was also unregistered. I got pulled over and the cop had his hand on his gun while he was talking to someone on his radio. However, once he realized that I wasn't the murderers but was instead a 16 year old girl sobbing, the officer relaxed. I still got a $600 ticket though lol

You’d think that “justice” would mean Tim/Will would’ve been finally given a proper trial and held to account for his actions if he is now finally able to comprehend them. Not just be released. As it stands he’s served no ‘punishment’ he’s had his help - that I agree he should’ve had but didn’t get beforehand. However surely now in the same way it’s time there was justice for his family, which should have but didn’t happen first time? I’ve never understood why people are released when they’re finally declared “sane” surely that’s the time for the court case that didn’t happen to happen not freedom to be suddenly granted!!

A friend of mine worked with Vince while he was in the hospital and apparently he was really really suffering when he was in custody. He was fully aware and cognizant of all the damage he did but couldn't actually control what he was seeing or doing. A lot of people want his blood, but he really is just another one of the many people that slip through the mental health system's cracks.
