We're making 3 Scrubs today:
Lavender Lemongrass Salt Scrub:
1 Tbsp Dried Lavender Buds
1 Cup Coarse Sea Salt
1/4 Cup Sweet Almond Oil
1/4 Cup Coconut Oil
5-6 Drops Lavender Essential Oil
20 Drops Lemongrass Essential Oil
Grind / Smash Lavender Buds in a Mortar and Pestle. Then mix all ingredients together and store in an air-tight mason jar. Lasts 3 months.
Cranberry Bergamot Sugar Scrub:
1 1/4 Cups Coarse Cane Sugar
1/4 Cup Cranberries
1 Tsp Ground Cinnamon
1/2 Cup Sweet Almond Oil
30 Drops Bergamot Essential Oil
Add all ingredients into a food processor. Grind briefly and store in mason jar.
Grapefruit Rosemary Sugar Scrub
1 Cup Coarse Cane Sugar
1 Tbsp Chopped Rosemary
3 Tbsp Vitamin E Oil
1/4 Cup Sweet Almond Oil
20-25 Drops Grapefruit Essential Oil
Mix ingredients in a bowl and store in mason jar.

Oh hon, while these are awesome ideas, you need a warning that bergamont oil will cause photosensitivity. So this is absolutely not something you should be using in your face without following with a good sunscreen. And second, the ground up cranberries will rot without refrigeration. This scrub should probably be used up in no more than a week. These are great ideas, but the average DIY'er doesn't consider things like photosensitivity if ingredients or the need for preservatives in things that contain water (cranberries) or that may come in contact with water (all of these).

A week depending on how cold your refrigerator is. I wouldn't go beyond 2 weeks. Your best bet is simply to make enough for a few days use at a time.

That's the thing about contamination. You can't see it with your bare eyes. But I guarantee you that the stuff you've made above will not last more than 2 days out of the fridge. A week max in the fridge

Love the combinations you used. Did you get all your essential oils and your vitamin E/coconut/sweet almond oils from Whole Foods? I am curious how long the one with fresh cranberries will last...wouldn't it mold? I know when I made homemade lotion using shea butter one year, it got moldy. I made bath oils about 20 years ago and that went okay, but I'm just curious how long something with fresh fruits/berries would last. I love your custom honeysuckle stamp below the Nordstrom one at the beginning. Very cute design! And as a crafter, I need to know where you got your stamp set from. The whole set inside the wooden box is adorable! :)

+Doodah Gurl I love this stamp set! I got it on Amazon and will link to it later tonight or tomorrow when I get a chance!!! I've had the cranberries for 3 weeks now (made some for myself too!) and it works great still - no rotting. I'd say safe to use within a month. The sugar helps to preserve it!

I finished buying the last today, and am working on the gifts for the rest: small notebook with leather cover for sister-in-law, small notebook with leather cover for a close friend, guestbook covered in paper for my oldest sister, and homemade art journals with heavy-duty water colour paper for my niblings =)

I don't mean to offend but you should add an info that the cranberry scrub will not last long, because of water content if you don't use preservative. Products like that should be used asap :)

Eiyan Riddermark Refrigeration prolongs the shelf life and make sure your containers are clean. They don't have to be laboratory autoclaved.

Hannah Tan if you use light oils like almond, yes.

Hannah Tan I would not use any citrus essential oils for your face. You are risking getting really bad sun burn. I used grapefruit essential oil in soap a few years back and was burned really bad. My skin was red, blistered, and started to peel after a of couple days. I wasn't even outside in the sun, plus I'm black Lol. I'm really glad I tried it on myself before selling my bars at the market. It's best to do your research before using these oils or to test it on a small area of your skin first.

Thx for sharing and iv added some tips to if your using and making your own body products that either soak or mekt into the skin. I always list the ingredients with a pic of my product i list on the page. I only use Stephenson Range Melt & Pour Soap base that is WSLS, SLS & SLES free. Sugar scrubs are gentler than salt scrubs because the granule is round and therefore doesn't have any ability to “cut” the skin. It's a far better choice for sensitive skin types and the only choice for the face. Sugar granules dissolve more easily in hot water, and they are less abrasive than salt scrubs.
