I'm 80 and ever since I read in your book the section on 'The Chair Squat with load', and did the exercises, I've never had to use my hands to stand up from a chair, and that has led to getting up from the floor easily.

I had a few falls at home and couldn't get up from the floor. Fortunately I was uninjured and managed to butt-crawl to my phone and call someone to pull me up to my feet. Once on my feet I was fine. I can't kneel without pain - due to many falls in the past, my knees hurt even under finger pressure, much less my body weight. I also have scoliosis and misaligned lumbar vertebrae, which makes fall recovery even more challenging. How could these exercises be modified to help me with fall recovery?

I'm in the same boatas you! It's why I've lost the strength in my legs. Because it hurts to kneel to get back up. I think we can modify the mountain climber and do it standing leaning against a wall. You might be interested in checking out Justin Augustin here on KZbin. He shows exercises that don't require kneeling but help to strength leg and core muscles. Good luck. @camlum1

I'm 76. Had a couple of falls 2 yesterday ago. Couldn't get up. Bad knees and weak legs and arms. Had to drag myself over to a chair and barely dragged myself to a sit. Really scarey. I realized then that I was in desperate need of a lot more strength in my legs and arms. This is a timely, much needed book for all us Boomers. Pre-ordering mine. Love your videos. I can actually do them !!! 😊❤ Thank you.

@@HT-Physiowe need an alternative to kneeling for the mountain climber. I've also had double total knee replacements. Another commenter also mentioned the inability to kneel to do that exercise. I can take it for the few seconds to get up from the floor (once I get my strength back) but not for an extended period of time. I think an alternative is to use a stance similar to the wall pushup but bring the knee up and then straight leg back.

I'm 'only' 43, but have been homebound since 2019 due to my chronic illness. Sickle Cell. I fell the other day & really struggled to get back up. I had bilateral hip replacements at age 22 & my other major joints are experiencing deterioration, especially my knees. If I hadn't just been using my old walker as a barre, I don't know how I would have gotten up. I'm definitely glad I procrastinated in putting it away. I'm glad I found your channel cause I'm finally ready to get my life back. I've been doing Essentrics by Miranda Esmonde-White of "Aging Backwards" & your channels definitely seem to compliment one another.

I do several of your exercises myself. But I looked at this one for my mother who has fallen twice in her garden and not been able to get up, which is extremely worrying. However, she is 92 with dodgy knees and hips, so we might have to find something gentler, but I’m sure we can work on the chair exercise. Balance of course is also an issue.

Just the name, the suggested number of sets and reps. Example, 1. Wall press 15 to 30 x 3, 2. Sit to stand 8 to 10 x 3, 3. Mountain Climber 1 min x 3. Thanks for all you do.

Every time l go to the kitchen for a meal or even a cup of tea during the day, l do wall push ups or arm swings etc while the jug is boiling or while the meal is cooking. If l am having a sandwich l make the sandwich and before eating l do my five mins of exercises , I find that l have got into the habit of remembering my exercises as soon as l go to the kitchen. This gives me at least 30 mins a day plus walking with a cd at least one mile a day, it isn’t strenuous or overwhelming but gives me a boost many times a day.

No OP - my siblings are in their mid to late 50's & can get off the floor well - still working in labour jobs. My cousins are late 50's - 60's & do triathlons. Without a doubt fatigue sets in a little quicker & the need for recovery times at these ages. Mainly a lot of people with sedentary lives, frail or o/weight even in their 40's can't get off the floor.

I managed to get down and up without the help of a chair but I did put a yoga mat down first. While I was down there, tried cross-legged sit, legs straight sit, both not too bad. However, sitting like the wee Copenhagen mermaid, not so good, but I will keep practicing this as advised on another of your videos. It wasn't pretty but I feel great knowing that I can manage it. I do that. I have to since my hips hurt. I do an Asian squat which is painless for me, roll forward on my hands, then push my hands and legs up and walk back to my feet.

Hello from the USA! Love your videos! I do have a question - I’m 62, recently lost almost 100 lbs. I am increasing my activity in the gym. Do you have any recommendations about getting down to the floor to do exercises? It has been so many years. I’m actually afraid to try it. Thanks!

1:20 "I'm not going to ask you to get down onto the floor". Why not? The best way to learn a skill like standing up from the floor is to actually do it. I practice once or twice a day every single day, requiring about one minute per day. I can do it with my eyes closed, which simulates night-time. You will learn coordination and subtle "cheats" involving weight-shifts and momentum moves. My favorite move (from supine) is a high weak-side leg swing towards my head. When the relaxed leg falls downward to the floor I can use the momentum to get to a seated-on-floor position. Mr. Harlow, how about a video on how to actually get fom supine-on-floor to standing?

Ok, I’m advanced! We do numerous sets of mountain climbing in our yoga classes! I didn’t know that’s what they are called. I really dislike them😂. Unfortunately most things that are good for us are not pleasant 🙄

Excellent💖I will practice more. Was that external rotation as you extended on the penultimate one? It appears so. I always do a few wall pushups. I think I may try one handed next. (Definitely not doing one handed on the ground. Too weak.

I'm fit for my age 69. I 🏋 and HIIT and eat low carb. Getting up from the floor is humbling. I've been doing your style, rolling to one side, get onto all fours then leverage to a standing position. Gravity sucks the older you get. IMHO 💪

Once upon a time, I could sit cross-legged on the floor, and stand straight up from that position. Now, at 65, my knees and back are so shot that I can't get up from the floor without support. I'm currently dealing with a torn miniscus, and damaged cartilage. I've seen two of your videos on miniscus, I'm hoping the exercises will provide some relief. Do you have anything on cartilage?

i know how to fall and not get hurt, but ince down no getting up. weak legs snd buckling knees. i will try these exercises, but no way will i get on any kinf of table to try. will put cushioning down, cus knees do not like hard surfaces. Im told theres a bit of fluid on them. they do not hurt at all unless Im kneeling on hard surface.

Do you have anything on improving hip flexibility? I can't sit cross legged very easily and think it may be connected to tightness in the hips and inner thigh muscles. Thanks for your great content.

I’m 71 and just tried getting up without using my knees. It can be done by turning sideways and then forwards and putting your weight on hands and arms without kneeling if you are strong enough in your arms.

How about when you need knee replacements but cannot get them? * US citizen, cannot afford the surgery* Have fallen, got up by pulling myself up on a chair, but had to put weight on knees, thus putting myself in additional pain for a couple of days.

Ok with 6 month knee replacement? i had 6 weeks physio and was kinda devastated when they told me i wouldnt be able to do my floor exercises anymore or get up and down off the floor. I've been scared to even try now. What is your view on that physio advice i was given elsewhere? im hoping its different than theirs was.
