Awesome video Johnny! Personally I'm not comfortable with the philly shell myself. I been boxing for over 10 years and I still feel the philly shell is a very advanced stance/style I have experimented with it and I have tried to get comfortable with it and it's just not for me. But I do like the info your teaching. Even from my conventional stance I would still use what you teach if it's possible to apply it to my stance/style. Also in this video I still learn something, like when you mentioned the philly shell fighters that only use the one way they turn and not the other, and how the opponent can easily get that position/angle behind there lead side. Now if I face a philly shell fighter in sparring or whatever ,I will look for that and take advantage of it. Therefore I still got something out of this video so I appreciate you taking the time to put this stuff out and we get to learn for free! Thank you Johnny for all you do. It is these videos and tutorials that your put out over the years that made me the boxer I am today. Even before I first walked in to a boxing gym, I learned fundamentals and basics to boxing from you, and I walked in to the boxing gym confident and comfortable because of what I have learned from you and of course I put in the practice and had partners to train and learn with. You impacted my life In the most positive way. I left a comment on another video of yours a while back explaining how your videos and boxing changed my life from a life of crime and drugs , to falling in love with boxing and you were like 1 of the only legit channels back then to learn from.and over the years you kept putting out videos and I learned and practiced. Now I'm clean and sober , out of the prison system , and my kids look up to me and see me train and box. I truly believe God puts things in our path for good reasons. I know this is a lot of writing for a comment, but I just wanted to remind you how important the things you posted and put out really are. and how you can change someone's whole life that you never met with the videos and tutorials you took the time and put out for us to learn for free. I think it's very important for you to know that too. So with all that, lol Thank you and God bless you and yours bro

I use to box and kick box and now I teach and I wasn't taught the Shell Im self taught with the shell,and the Shell works better for me cause I'm quick and very fast, I mean the shell is mainly great for a speedy fighter than a power fighter, so if it's not meant for you don't do the style, do what's fits you.

All these are great options that you don't have to really think that much to execute except for the footwork. Another two I think work perfect with this stance is Flickers Jabs though you do get your arm close to tucking so something to be wary of. I try not to tuck it inside too much when popping them out but I have shorter arms so I can get away with it sometimes. Another Jab I love from this position mid Jab string. I love to keep my arm half extended stiff armed almost and just throw arm punches maybe with some body weight depending. This works well mid combination as a way to keep up pressure or back off safely. Since if you keep it half extended and return it to that position you can fire off jabs even faster than orthodox normally allows. Though it saps power so you have to have a stone cold jab. Luckily I was born Southpaw but mainly fight in Orthodox Right Handed stances. And switch when desperate to confuse people since I've started to train southpaw more recently. Speaking of which I find while your not allowed to stiff arm people if you stiffen up right after a jab. Or fake jab it out and just leave it stiffen if you bait them to push forward they'll whiff unless they're strong as a bull and push through. I can also use this to pop them with a Counter Cross. Hooks and More so Uppercuts are also viable for this type of bait. However these are advanced addons I wouldn't recommend for a new user. I could only apply these after I had decent mastery over multiple Shell Guard Styles from Peekaboo, High Guard, to Cross Guard, Low, Guard Long Guard, Thai Stance so on so forth. I find having extra tools like these are handy to have in your back pocket to frustrate people. Fencing Jabs like Lomachenko uses are another great Jab for both Defense, Offense, and Even Setups. I find if you switch between these Jab types constantly and throw them out tirelessly it's nearly impossible to wade through and will frustrate even experienced opponents. Especially since each of these types of jabs all come at weird or odd angles from the standard. Even standard Philly Shell Jabs already pop from more below. Add more variation and it makes it ten times harder to deal with.

Nice video Johnny. From Philly if you fire the back hand you have to focus on that rear foot moving forward more,reach

Usually when I’m in Philly Shell, means my opponent is being aggressive and coming to me anyway so reach isn’t the biggest problem. IMO, if you need more reach on the right hand just square up your stance more.

You're not shooting your jab from it's original position, you're pulling your hand back a bit and then shooting, which means that you're telegraphing your punches. This is also not a Philly Shell at all, lmao. You'd be laughed at in Philly. No offense though.
@justseven34872 жыл бұрын
2:26 Too open. Not a shell, not a classic boxing stance. Idk what this is. I'm seriously doubting your boxing experience.
@expertboxing2 жыл бұрын
Comments like this make me doubt YOUR boxing experience more than anything. If you actually knew the philly shell, then you know how hard it is to utilize the left hand against aggressive opponents. Rolling rights and ducking lefts ain’t gonna work all day. If you had your own experience, you’d also know why (AND HOW) my adjustments do work. Laughs on you, bud. ✌️
