I've a heard this comment from almost all western viewrs of Indian cinemas that they are long. Yes, they are. In my opinion there are 2 reasons for it. 1. Western movies, specifically Hollywood movies are story driven. What I mean is they go from one plot point to the next with an inconnected narrative. So you can trim the story better to make it more linear. At the same time Indian movies are emotion driven. While a story can be told within a few sentences, emotion takes time to build. 2. Watching a movie in theater is still considered to be a luxury in a developing country like India where the median household income is less than $290. So when a filmmaker makes a movie they want to give the audiencecs a celebration rather than a topic of discussion. I'm not saying that there are no thought provoking Indian movies. But what I'm saying is that those type of movies generally do not perform that well in Indian box office. So, by making a movie longer the filmmakers in a way give the audinece their value for the money. In my opinion there's no right or wrong way to make a film and a film should be as long as it needs to without overstaying it's welcome. While Hollywood movies are created with a global audinece in mind, most Indian movies are made for a specific audience base. Thanks to viewers such as you, that is changing these days. @0:00 if you're going through a tough time in life, I recommend watching 'Tamasha' and 'Dear Zindagi'.. (And if you liked 3 idiots and wanna watch another movie like this, I would recommend a more recent Bollywood movie called 'Chhichhore') All three movies are amazing and tackle the topic of mental health so well. Maintained the seriousness of the topic while also keeping it kinda fun and interesting. Totally recommended. These movies helped a lot of people, might help ya too bro. Take care.
