Side note, I worked with a group of all married women at one point, and you've never heard a group of people talk about more nasty sex stuff more than all married women. You think you were "experimental" in collage, well imagine having sex with the same person from 20+ years, and think about the things you'll have tried at least once. A couple married for 20 years who has sex every two weeks, will have had sex 480 times, but based one one study, couples between 18-29 had sex about twice a week, which is 2240 in 20 years.. though the same study said couples 30-39, they had sex 86 times a year so it would really be more like, 1120 the first ten years then 860 times the next ten years, thus a total of 1980 times in 20 years. The real point is, the average married person has way more sex than almost any single person working the bar scene. Couples between 50-59, have sex more times in one year, than you did in all of high school and collage life combined... and you wonder why grandma and pop-pop don't have much energy, it's cause they're fucking so much! Perverts!

Wow, I grew up in a time when parent social groups were an organised thing. My baby sister had friends from that group, our parents only knew each other because their 3 year olds wanted to spend time together outside of the organised group. The parents became friends but that is how the families met.

Cathal Horan Friendships are not sturdy if you don't have enough in common - I think Daniel and Soren's friendship is plausible because of a strong shared interest in television and film critical analysis, especially if the friendship is limited to group interaction and analysis. Having various friendships with people I have little to nothing in common with I can tell you that they are real. Once two people have been together in a situation where they helped each other out on a regular basis, a bond grows. Then you focus on the few things you have in common movies, music, TV, or whatever. The best friendships aren't the ones you'll have the most fun with. They're the ones where you can trust the other person to be there when you need them. Yeah, I have more fun with some of my buddies, but if my car breaks down on the interstate at midnight in another state with no Uber, toe truck, or cab to be found, I know who come. And I'd go for them to, cause at the end of the day we've had each other's backs so long, not being there for them isn't even a question.

LogicBeforeNorms thank you. I thought this exactly. This week I met up with my good friends from High School as we were all in our home town for Christmas. We all have diverging personalities and interests but remain close due to childhood and family bonds. Our differences enrich our relationships not stifle them. Life would be boring if we surrounded ourselves by perfect clones of one another. I think that is the point this guy misses.

I don't know, Soren is kind of messed up. He's also nowhere near as cool as he thinks he is. Hanging out with the meek and nerdy Daniel and the dumb Michael gives him the perfect opportunity to feel cool, smart, handsome and just all over superior. And at the same time they clearly enjoy arguing about pop culture together. I'd rather question why Katie is hanging out with the other three but I wouldn't be surprised if she was there for the same reasons that I assume for Soren.

The Jock/Nerd friendship cliche is brought up in 21 Jump Street and explored deeper in 22 Jump Street. It's actually a clever, somewhat subtle theme throughout the whole film that some friendships are sturdy because of how different the people are, Yin and Yang; when two exactly similar people hang out there's no spark. I'd highly recommend both films to anyone reading, as funny and silly as they are, they are also incredibly well made films that actually carry a meaning or two. Also you sit next to Soren at the After Hours table soooooo.........

Me and some of my best friends for the past 10 years have next to nothing in common. All you really need is a similar sense of humor and to like the other person and I don't think the rest really matters. And the most explicable situation in Saved By the Bell is Screech sold weed, Zach bought weed from him and they started smoking together.

Think about all of your friendships and how similar or not you are - there will be some fundamental commonality that binds you. I don't think it's just humour, that's not enough for a real friendship. There must be more in common than you recognise. Unless your friendships are so superficial and empty that you just tell a few jokes and then sit in silence? That might be enough for you if you have social difficulties.

The 'Implausible Friendship' is actually very real. It is the basic concept that friends usually start off liking the same stuff, but as they grow, their families, their talents, and the fact they aren't the same person, causes them to develop diverging interests and personas. Zack and Screech give us a glint of this, because before Saved by the Bell, they were in Good Morning Miss Bliss, and we saw that Screech was the odd-man out, it was Zack and Mikey, with Screech as more the geek they used and felt pity for... when Mikey departed between the two series, Screech was still there, and he grew on Zack. Screech is loyal, he is Zack's best friend and Zack is Screech's best friend, and yet both have separate cliques that they interact with, Zack has the cool kids, Screech has the Nerds, in Saved by the Bell they introduced Jessie as Zack's True Best Friend, the literal Girl Next Door who is never interested in Zack and Zack is never interested in her (despite, in my opinion, her always being the hottest girl in the cast, by far). The essential Canon of the Series is that Jessie was in a private school for middle school, but has always been there, her, Mikey, and Zack, and Screech all live on the same Block, they grew up in the same neighborhood, they were friends because they watched the same shows, wanted the same toys, and played the same games, but as they aged, Mikey moved away, Jessie went to a different school and was a girl, Zack took after his dad, and Screech got weird. Their friendship is realistic, but it only works if you accept that they have been friends since they were small children, and it only starts to strain credulity when you get something like Screech and Slater, Nerd and Jock, only friends of friends, who somehow become really chummy despite having zip in common besides the same school and small handful of mutual friends.

@@junghunt8645 in some ways not an untruth, I was the nerd all through school, I was the outcast, and I was awkward. Differences come in that in middle school I outgrew my physical awkwardness and became athletic, and I never was a teacher's pet type. Ryan from High School Musical, with Harold Wormser (the original too smart for his age and society Nerd), and a bit of Jerry from Parker Lewis can't Lose would probably be a far more accurate description of me, but GMMB/SBtB Universe never had a character that would really fit reality, going more for cookie cutter stereotypes.

Sat next to an attractive young woman on the bus I saw her texting to one of her friends about the size of her current boyfriend's "cock" (luckily for him it was because it was on the large side). No way do I believe women don't discuss their sexual escapades with one another. The on-screen trope for this is woman saying in advance of a date that they will want 'all the details' later. I've seen this a million times; and I've also seen it said on-screen by male gays too i.e. it's a girl thing. As I explained in another post here the reasons why guys don't discuss the sex they have with other guys, there are reasons why women *would* do so with their female friends. For a start, women's menstrual cycles are known to synchronize and the biological purpose of this is so that they can ALL be ready if a potent stud comes along to pick the best of them. They don't know who he will pick but they will all want him to pick them (given that he's an Alpha male and especially strong and dominant etc.); and they also know that men come with a 'six shooter' and will be happy to 'spread the love' if he gets the chance. Those women will make sure he gets the chance if their friends' reports of him are good.

Normally me and my friends are polar opposites 😂 Normally our group attracts attention of how weird it looks to some people, as some of my friends dress in band uniforms, others all black, others always dress fashionable and others just plain normal. (On the outside look, but also personality wise). I think our friendship is based that we all hear and understand each other. They are better at things im not so offers me advice when I need it and i do the same for them. Diverse friendship, even if polar oposite, can be functional for some poeple as it opens them to a world they didn't knew with different experiences and exposure to different tastes which foments tolerance 😊

The mean friends trope is stupid; and likely perpetuated by those who don't understand how to do it. Such as one time at my one job, a coworker and I had separate duties, but would cross paths as we worked. One of us would make a negative comment about the other, they would retort, we would go back and forth once or twice more, then stop. One day a new coworker tried to join in, but she seemed to think the joke was entirely about making fun of me; and did not understand the part about stopping; nor did she recognize the hints we both were dropping that essentially meant, "shut up." We worked at a very busy gas station, and made fun of each other as a means of relieving stress because we could not yell at the customers that got on our nerves; and even though the majority of people are no problem, it only takes one asshole to ruin your day.

5:08 - It's called a "Mastermind," when two people neatly complement one another by compensating for each other's flaws. One will be impulsive; one will be cautious. One will be sensitive; the other will be ruthless. One will be creative; the other will be conservative. When they're working together, they have basically zero flaws because their strengths cancel out each other's weaknesses.

Man I must be completely living in a movie universe as I am in friendships with all types of people. In fact as I have gotten older and have worked different jobs I would say that I have ended up with friends that are complete opposites to me. I have always had friends from different walks of life. It makes life fun interesting and while yeah you have a couple of people you can only take in small dosages. It's the differences that makes a friendship interesting.

I have never stuck to one group or click of people I imagine that being very closed minded and boring.

Well, this heavily depends on your definition of friend - is a coworker a friend? Is your best friend really a polar opposite of yourself? I know a lot of people that are different from me - some of them I see quite regularly. There are so many more shades of this: comrade, acquaintance, mentor, mate or brothers in spirit - but I wouldn’t classify those as friends. But I get what you’re saying.

Rowynne Crowley Ferris is derived from ferrous meaning iron, so a farrier (horse shoe maker/iron worker) a sanguanous person (someone with a ruddy complexion or red hair or who was a particularly blood thirsty) or some other link to iron would be the source of the name then the name would gain an association with strength (like iron) resulting in a noble and strong name that seems stupid, then chances are one of his parents heard it and liked it or, less likely, it was a family name, and even less likely they knew the origins of the name and wanted to distill such qualities in their child so he was thus named

I also had a friend that I basically always debated with we had common interests in shows and stuff, but we liked them for some different reasons and we always debated on the whats and whys and wasn't this cool and etc. all you really need for a friendship is common interests if you got that then you're doing just fine. you can build a connection with someone.

I said this for the After Hours episode on "Friends" and I'll say it here: movie and TV characters are written like they're teenagers. Teenagers have unhealthy obsessions about sex, are often mean to each other for no real reason, and can even be found in odd groups of friends because of circumstances or needs. If Ferris had his own car, for example, he might not have kept hounding Cameron to drive over in *his* car. Teenagers are always trying to figure out social cues, the finer points of interacting with other human beings without being completely or even mostly inappropriate. You know what else teenagers are? The main demographic for television and movies. Writers only have to write characters who are as mature as their target audience in order to keep ratings high. Or, if you want a less cynical explanation, writers "write down" to teenagers to show them it's okay to be awkward and inappropriate because look at how awkward and inappropriate adults can be, as long as we all learn a valuable lesson about "friendship" along the way. Movies and TV shows need more adults that act like actual adults.

My best friend of more than 25 years was Zach Morris and I was screech :) But he liv3d across the street and ended up being life long friends. With the last point I can relate it with my friendship with my best friend. I am an anxious, depressed mess and she is a outgoing, adventure loving hot mess. Though we are different we have a lot in common and we don't always disagree with each other. She makes me do things I wouldn't normally do and have fun and I am the voice of reason and control, making sure we don't get ourselves killed. Movies need people who are different, but still have many things in common to keep the relationship plausible.
