Thanks for your excellent video, tips and time! I am an Amateur's Amateur! Beginning this year I played in the mid to upper 50s on 9 holes. Playing twice a week and driving range 2-3 times a week and I have improved to mid to upper 40s. I practice mostly with the Driver and I can drive the ball a long way if I hit it straight. I am slicing (a long way) worse now than ever before and hitting it straight less. I try all the things you suggest but correct one thing and something else is wrong! I was hitting my 3 wood and hybrids straight. Now I am slicing them! I am so confused to the point I am thinking of just using my longest Iron (6) from the T-box. I'd rather hit the ball 150 yards straight than 250+ slice. Seriously, there have been times my ball landed in the fairway two holes over!

ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL TURORIAL! I literally just got back inside the house from trying some of these techniques and I was struggling slightly the last time out on the course with my driver. @3:42 what the hell was that yellow stick that went up and down in the back ground? So knuckle back to the elbow with ulnar deviation wrist extension then cast like a fishing pole so the thumb goes up and you don't cup you go down then keep your wrists nice and straight with no bend at all and then just before impact you get a nice angle with a flat wrist so your thumb is pulled back toward your body and make sure the bottom 2 inches of the handle are gripped with two fingers feeling pressure. This is so self evident.....why didn't I see this before? It is said that you should never have more than a couple of swing thoughts before you hit your driver. I'm really glad I found this one.

Hey Clay great videos I watch a bunch of them. I do have one thing that keeps confusing me. You keep talking about not flipping the club head which makes sense especially when you use the example of the club head getting ahead of your hands. (before the ball strike) But then at approx the 5 minute mark you start talking about flipping (bad) again but then go on the talk about whipping (good) the club. I have a really hard time understanding the difference between the flipping and whipping. Because at the 5 min the flipping you talk about as causing inconsistencies really looks like the end of the whipping motion because it is well after the ball had been struck. Hope this makes sense. Keep going on the great videos.

3:23 can only be achieved, by having a good fitted driver, a lot of folks, getting caught in the lag, casting, trailed behind, due to too long a driver length. I went from 46, to a 43.4 and I'm booming it like never before. nnnn fudge choking down, that brings me closer to the fulcrum point and I lose snap power. cut it, stiffen it, and swing from the butt, but ensure you have the proper, dynamic length through impact area fitting. great video and effects. swing looks good.

Very good lesson! Your a good instructor. Do you have a video that teaches how to to stay balanced throughout the entire swing? Sometime I get in a habit of pulling back - away from the ball with my upper body just as I am making contact with the ball. At the same time I swing way to hard, almost coming out of my shoes thinking that is going to make the ball go further. It never works, no matter how hard I swing. That's why I really like this lesson. Looking forward to practicing the things you explain. I'm 65 and only drive the ball 200 -225 yards on my best shots so if I can get consistent at hitting an additional 20 to 25 more yards and straight, I will be ecstatic. Thanks

So I've watched this video and man did it change my accuracy with a driver. Knowing how to square up my hands made. I did really well with my drives last night and slowed my swing down at first to make sure this would work, I hit some from 260-280 and was shocked how straight they went on holes that intimidate me and cause me to push or slice. Once I got comfortable I booted one out there about 315 and didn't even put my full swing into it. I hit 300 several times a game by swinging the crap out of the ball. I'm really curious how far I will be hitting using this snap method. Really a game changer for me because it feels effortless. So my question is now, does this snap method also work with the Irons? My biggest struggle right now is an eight Iron for whatever ungodly reason and it drives me mad. I didn't want to try it during my round as I have a way that works fairly well, still have too many struggles. Anyway, long winded post, I signed up for your free videos and just based on how much is giving me those little ah ha moments I'll be a full access member soon. Great job on the teaching.

One thing I noticed by watching the pros on TV and all the KZbin instruction videos (including yours) is that AT IMPACT, all good golfers have their right shoulder on top of their right foot, or just a couple of inches in front. Thinking about getting my right shoulder over my right foot at impact keeps me behind the ball, makes it impossible to come over the top and automatically shifts my weight. Using just this one swing thought has knocked ten to twelve strokes off my score.

Is your driver set-up influenced by the club itself? Looks like your hands are even with the clubhead. My driver seems to be offset. Because of the angle of the shaft, I feel like I can't square the face without having my hands slightly behind the ball. Is that possible or should I be trying to keep my hands in line with the head of the driver at address?

Hi Packy, thanks for the comment. Glad you liked the video. I typically like to have the driver up close to the ball at address but I have seen others have it further behind it. Also, I like to rest the club on the ground behind the ball and then slightly lift it to get it just off the ground and then start the backswing. As you can see with Clay, he likes to hover the club behind the ball at address. The advantage is you can have a smoother takeaway but that's not always the case. It's really about personal preference. The best thing you can do is try out all kinds of different ways and see what way works the best for you. Best of luck ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor

Tip: for those who have less shoulder turn (older) rotate your wrist/open and flatten your swing on the back swing. rotate thru the ball....you will hit it square if you do' over swing. Fowler noticeably flattens his swing just before completing back swing.

Excellent video Clay. I have a question- I used to be a good player in my 20’s, best was a 76. Now life and huge weight gain really killed my game. But starting about ten years ago when I joined the 460cc craze, I started topping my driver. Really became a phobia, even teed up 3-1/8” it would happen. 3 wood teed up barely got up in air easy. the club at address seemed to work, but I don’t know. Seems like my tee ball was better with smaller heads. What could it be, bent left arm, ball too forward?? Really bugs me as I’m going to be playing lots starting this year. Thank, Eric

I do not understand how y’all put the ball that far forward and high and still hit it. When I put the ball forward of my zipper I hit the ground first. The center of your body is the low point of swing how can you swing past center and hit that ball. The other problem is if I tee it high like that the club goes under the ball comes off the top of club and goes straight up. Physics contradicts the way you hit driver. Please help me!!

Hi Erick, it sounds like you're not getting a good weight shift but it's hard to day without seeing your swing. The low point of the club head arc is usually closer to straight below the lead shoulder socket. Also, you want to hit up on the ball with the driver when it's on a tee. This is why it is teed up higher to allow the club to bottom out and then move up into the ball. This allows for a higher launch and lower spin which leads to more distance. Play well! Hi Glenn, thanks for the clarification. The wrap around is closing the club face. You have to close the club face to get the club to impact the outside part of the ball. If you're having trouble squaring the face and leaving it open at impact then the feeling of wrapping the club around the outside of the ball may help to square the club face. Coming over the top is usually in reference to the club path. This would be a club path moving to the left for a right handed golfer. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thank you. I try to create an inside out swing while closing the club face but this is a chronic problem for me. I believe my path is good, but I still fade or slice the ball. The Skilz Gold Trainer you spoke of in another video has helped my swing path but squaring the face is still difficult. When I try to square or even close the face at impact I tend to come over the top and fly the ball to the left. Anyway, thanks again

I really have a problem with my slice - but only at the course. Whem I am at the driving range I hit them straight nearly every time. I just don’t know what is happening with my swing when it is “serious” As if someone is pulling in my arm and it is getting akward ... and then ... slice.

Hi Jan, I would recommend you make your practice on the range as much like it is on the course. Visualize playing the course on the driving range. Imagine the hole in front of you. Go through your whole routine just like you would on the course. Best of luck! ~ Quentin | TSG Instructor

Thanks Clay. I will try to make a target on the range. Not much else to do. I found out yesterday that my grip is wrong. My left hand is turned too much to the left. Correcting that I think would help a lot. Would it help to go a little left at my stance so the club Is more square at impact? I think my swing goes from out to in.

Hi Jan, the grip can make a difference. I would recommend trying different grip positions (weak, strong, neutral) and find what is best of you. What works for someone else may not be the best of you and vice versa. Also, if you tend to leave the face open, aiming to the left can help but I have found with most students that it only has short term success. I would recommend aiming straight and then trying to get the face to close more at impact. Feel the like the hands are rolling over more to close it. I hope that helps. And maybe change my stance, so the ball is nearer my right foot even though it’s not naturel. Wouldn’t it make make the impact and the path of the club more square (even make a little draw)? From there I could gradually move it to the left, but that’s just my opinion.

Hi Jan, sure it could but that will cause you to hit more down on the ball most likely. You don't want to come down too steep on it because you won't get as much compression and you'll get too much spin. This will make the ball balloon up in the air when hitting into the wind. your weight is going toward the hole, onto your left side a bit too early on the downswing, look at Adam Scott and then look at your movement as you start the downswing and you will see what I mean, be good if you could get your weight onto your right side a bit better on the backswing

i came across a former workmate on the driving range, he was hitting the ball hard, but it was grass cutting for 30/40 yards. no matter what i tried i couldn't get him to get the ball in the air at all. he had previously suffered a broken hand (not arm) in a motorcycle accident that had to all intent had healed up. when i came home i looked it up and found that anyone suffering from a similar hand injury could find it impossible to get the ball airborne. care to tell us what your 'problems' are, and if they're sorted?

I started all over looked at a lot of old video of my swing in my early days and started with 3/4 swing and worked up to full and them I started with speed to the point I know my new limit
