Thanks so much Michelle! This is just what I was asking you about on Instagram the other day. Thank you so much. I now understand what you mean about cooked vs raw veg. I am stage 3 ckd and have congestive heart failure, so when my potassium bloodwork was a 6, I was very concerned about a heart attack!! I now consistently eat 2000 mg potassium plant foods a day and my last bloodwork the potassium bloodwork was normal range, so that seems like a good place to level it for me. I did reverse my Type2 diabetes a couple of months ago and have lost almost 50 pounds. So will continue this wonderful way of eating and still have about 30 more pounds to go and pray I can reverse or slow WAY down the ckd progression. 🙏Thank you so much for your videos and posts on Instagram. You are consistently putting out the best information!! Bravo!🥳🥳🥳

Hi Michelle, thank you for addressing these Myths! I do have kidney disease and my potassium is very low, under bottom average. Iv caught some flack from others as many recipes I create have higher potassium. Though I do test runs of recipes with other veg that can be subbed for mushrooms, asparagus or potatoes & sweet potatoes. I would love your opinion on potatoes. I see many boiling multiple times to pull out potassium.
@PlantBasedKidneyHealth2 жыл бұрын
Hello! Double boiling lowers potassium content by ~ 50% for potatoes/sweet potatoes. For someone without a potassium restriction (especially low potassium) this is likely not necessary to do!

would you make a video dedicated to phosphorus. It is my and many others problem which causes body itching.
@PlantBasedKidneyHealth2 жыл бұрын
Definitely! We do have two episodes on phosphorus. But can definitely make more that cover other areas of phosphorus or are more specific. What types of phosphorus questions would you like to see addressed?

My nephrologist has not told me I have kidney disease, but I was diagnosed with what was called massive outside kidney cysts, 20 cm cysts on both left and right kidneys. Upon seeing the surgeon, he was very reluctant to remove cysts despite their size and strain they put on my kidneys. That was 2018. I control discomfort and symptoms with very powerful energy treatments, all the while wondering if they are hardening into tumours.I’m booked to see surgeon in 2023 but wondering if I will be able to get into the appointment given the crisis in medical care in my country, Canada
@victorburgos54092 жыл бұрын
@@jeanwhite2705 May be that to remove them my cause too much of your kidneys destruction and might not be enough kidneys left. My suggestion to you is to have your vitamin k2 tested to see if you have deficit. It is good for lowering fatty liver and many more other functions in the body sells . Maybe you should request a kidneys transplant. Many doctors say that at that state there is nothing they could do.

I’m a senior. I don’t have kidney disease nor any other health co morbidities. I eat mostly wfpb. Is that something for worry , the amt of potassium in all of the plants I’m eating. ? If I don’t have time to cook, I drink greens in powder form with juices, like carrots, beet, green apples, celery, cucumbers . I’m 45 kg. Never overeat nor overdrink (juices, water) .

Hello! All the videos/information on this page are specific to people with kidney disease or at risk of CKD! Potassium is something most people lack in the diet and should be eating more of when they don't have kidney disease and elevated blood potassium levels :)

So what mg potassium is a safe level to take in a day ? Some people say 4700 mg/day for healthy people.

Hi Michelle, my latest Potassium rate was 2.9. Rather low, is'nt it? Does it mean I cannot eat low potassium food like most of tropical fruits: papayas, watermelon, dragonfruit, apples, etc..? Would you please give me some explanations? Thanks Doc.
@PlantBasedKidneyHealth2 жыл бұрын
hello! You will want to work with your renal dietitian/doctor for specific guidance! In general though, if blood potassium levels are low or low-normal, you can enjoy higher potassium foods or lower potassium foods in larger quantities.

Most people dont get enough potassium . If you dont sodium and potassium in balance your sodium/potassium pumps wont work properly.
@PlantBasedKidneyHealth11 ай бұрын
Correct! Most people don't get enough potassium in their diet and get way too much sodium. Some people with Chronic Kidney Disease may need to limit their potassium intake based on their individual labs.

nuts are high in 0h9sph9rus where this verses potassium is worse and causes discouragement
@PlantBasedKidneyHealth2 жыл бұрын
Phosphorus from whole plant foods are only absorbed ~ 50%. So the phosphorus in nuts (when limiting portion as discussed in this video) remains poorly absorbed!
