Sometimes we finish our makeup, and we can't put our finger on it...but something's not quite right. This was such a great video and so helpful. As I’ve aged, I’ve had to alter how I do my eye makeup because things have changed in that area. Ways I used products in my 20s and 30s just don’t work for me in my 50s…and that’s okay. I think that’s why a lot of us get frustrated with makeup as we age. You do have to adapt. Playing around is so helpful. I usually play around with colors and techniques right before I do my bedtime routine because I’m about to take it all off anyway so if it looks silly, who cares!

For me, it's hard to figure out when to lean into my natural tones and when to combat them. Like, Lisa Eldridge's light olive shade was initially thrilling because it's such a great match. But then having it all over my face I felt perhaps that living my best green life was not necessarily what I was ultimately after, so instead I try to lean more towards yellow and it's a more visually comfortable place. Or, my pale, cold-toned lips look weird on my own darned face and deaden so many lip shades. I've found that faking some subtle neutral shadowing around my lips and using a liner like MAC chicory to force a tone change makes the rest of my lipstick life way easier. I love your comments about intentionally embracing dissonance. I'm currently occasionally practicing making cold lavender eye looks work on me, haha.

A long time ago, I as "matched" at MAC and the color was very yellow. They straight up told me not to match, but to go a little more yellow because it would balance the redness in my face. Since then my skin has calmed down a bit I go for a more neutral shade. I think there is definitely value in not quite matching the skin tone to do some color correcting or balancing. Also, I have very purple lips too and going with a brown liner is super helpful as is having an array of pinks that can warm up any colors that are turning too purple.

*LOVE* this video because it took me forever to figure out that dry skin isn't going to cooperate with heavier foundation formulas everyday. And as my facial features start to change, it's become a new challenge to master.

I would love a video about envisioning how a “neutral” eyeshadow might look on you depending on your undertones. I will think that a color looks one way in the package or in a swatch and then put it on my eyes and it skews so different. For me, things usually look much more orange than I anticipate but I’m always hesitant to buy a palette that looks cool because I’m scared it will look TOO cool toned once it’s on my eyes. There is a point where the cool colors start to pick up something (maybe green?) in my skin and then I start to look like a corpse. Gotta love those witch undertones! I have been so close to buying the PMG Divine Rose palette because I am pretty sure it is the perfect amount of cool/neutral but I am nervous.

I would love love love love (love) a video/video series dedicated to makeup and colour theory. Because A) I think it's the most interesting topic and B) it's something I really struggle with. As you said in your video, it doesn't need to come from a place of "expertise" necessarily on any particular topic such as seasons, but I would be REALLY interested in what you apply as colour theory in your looks but also coming from your place as an artist. What is considered and utilized between your makeup and your paintings? Whether it's videos discussing looks you are creating in the moment or even running through photos of past looks and explaining your choices. I struggle with colour theory the most - my eyes and my lips tend to look very disconnected, too contrasted and too bold on each's own, so much so that I only do one or the other. It's almost as though the parts of my makeup collection are in conflict, as if I've chosen colours I like for eyes vs lips separately but in reality they don't go together and I didn't buy makeup thinking of any "whole".

This was such a great, helpful video (also that painting! I still can't get over it!). I love what you said about play and that nothing is "wrong" but knowledge will help you understand how you went from Point A to Point B. Your channel has been immensely helpful for me to learn about products I might like, products I don't need to waste my money on, how to get the most out of my collection and also plenty of fashion and life things as well. Your emphasis on undertones throughout your videos encouraged me to go to a makeup artist and learn about my undertones and what shades really do work best for my skin tone -- and I never would have thought to do that without you talking about undertones on your channel.

I have a question about the first look (3:05). I love a cool-toned eye, and I think it looks really nice on you. I see the changes you made to make the look more cohesive and they are helpful. but let's say that you did your eyes first and are selecting better blush/bronzer shades to match the eyes. what shades would you use? maybe a mauve? maybe lean more on contour rather than bronzer to match the coolness in your eyes?
@kackie
@kackie Жыл бұрын
So I would choose a cool tone, but work it up to something a little warmer on the top of the cheeks to use *relative* warmth to your advantage and then use a bronzer that will bridge the gap between your skin tone and the blush!

I'm in my 6th decade of life & started wearing makeup at around age 12 & I can 100% verify that your skin & your face will change lol. I had very oily skin for years that would just eat through foundation & cause it to separate. I couldn't stand how moisturizers or lotions felt on my skin & I hated the feel or look of lipstick. I used very matte, powder heavy products well into my 40s & then all of a sudden powder just looked terrible on my face & I had to learn to care for post menopausal, dry, thin, sensitive, rosacea prone "mature" skin. ( Surgically induced menopause at 45 was so much fun) Wtf? Yeah, found out that adult acne that had been plaguing me was actually rosacea. Grrrr. Came to YT in my 50s looking for makeup/skincare tips & recommendations since I knew nothing of Sephora & everyone was pushing false lashes, extreme winged liner, heavy full coverage MATTE foundation & very drying, long wear, matte lipsticks. Took me a while to find content that actually applied to me & was helpful although I enjoyed seeing what the current trends were. I am an artist myself so while I understand the whole "self expression" side of makeup & fashion (been there/done that) I have other outlets for that at my disposal. And I'm not really interested in chasing eternal youth thru botox, injections, peels, procedures, what have you...no shade to people who do, it's just not in my budget or compatible to my current lifestyle. Oh, & I'm disabled so there's all the ableism in Beauty Content to contend with too...um yeah, it can take a while to find content creators in the beauty space that are actually going to be representative of & helpful to you depending on your demographic. But I'm glad I stuck with it & I'm very pleased with the channels like this one that I now watch regularly. 🎨👀

Needed this SO much! Tweaking tones is so important - especially when you have a weird look, after a half hour careful application, and the Uber is 5 minutes away. I so love the blush application to my eyes on the acreage under the eye brows, instant pull together - another Wayne Goss legacy.Keep this content coming Kackie, you get IT.

Thank you so much, Kackie. I've watched this and Friday's video three times (each.) Mostly for enjoyment, and also for the patience to let your ads play upon repeated views. THIS is why I watch your videos (and am such a fan). Surely, I cannot possibly be the only viewer or subscriber with an art and design background. I still find my skin's undertones supremely confusing--your insights help me SO much in so many cool/warm and color scenarios. I especially appreciate how I can use (quality) drugstore or luxury products in any given situation to play. Also, Friday's review of the rms new foundation was indispensable! I ordered it thanks to your thorough exploration. I love how flexible its usage is. I am tempted by Chantecaille's skincare-centered face products, but I think they look older skin look crepey (from what I've seen). I had a sample of the rms primer and picked that up, too (It's sold out atm.) I NEVER use a primer; I have older, soft skin, and it's usually too many layers. This one is different. I honestly can watch any video you post. I am inspired by how much you trust your inspiration and interests and how dynamic that makes your content.

Haven’t finished yet but I remember this happened one day. I walked out of natural light into fluorescent light and i looked bright! red! I looked at myself for the longest time and put on more brow gel and some eyeliner. It fixed so much. I always overblush but my hair looked so stark, dark black against my skin that it looked crazy. I heard your voice in my head saying “Bring back the details.”

have deep set and very little brow and lid space, so eyes that are kind of shadowy. I can't change things very much so I sweep LIGHTLY bronzer blush and higlight in the typical places most makeup tutotials would put them and call it a day. It's so lazy and boring but putting more effort and time into my eye looks I find they become too much(for me oc) too quickly
