I am 72 years old and have started violin lessons several months ago. I actually do the three things you mention, and I have done them from the start of my lessons. I just naturally did this on my own, not because my teacher told me to. I hope I will live long enough to sound good enough to "impress my friends and family." I think I am doing very well so far. Something I have to work on is slowing down when I practice.

Try to tighten the string (of the bow) a little bit...
@terrabucher62835 жыл бұрын
The struggle is real. If you are having issues with string crossings, it may help to experiment a little with your posture and your hold with the violin. Even tiny adjustments in this regard can really make things line up a lot nicer making all your hard work on the bowing technique really pay off. Memorize the passages if you can so you can really see what is going on there and what the technical issue is. Practicing with open strings can give you the ability to isolate your bowing without the distraction of left hand coordination.

I used to be amazing at the violin, I got a full scholarship to Juilliard in 1999. That wasn't what I wanted to do, I loved playing the violin, it brought me such happiness, but it wasn't a career playing the violin I wanted. I pursued the career of dreams, and now 30 yrs later, (I'm 39 now, started playing at 9) a couple years ago my husband bought a new violin for 🎄, I hadn't picked up a violin since 2000. I remembered how to read the music 30yrs later, I couldn't believe it!! Now at 39, my kids are older and I'm starting to play again, love your channel!

She showed me personal pictures of Jascha Heifetz and well known other violinist that she traveled with and have signatures of. I want to develope coordination to play faster on the violin, could you make a video of it? :o Please 😌💗
@Figjamxlaststar5 жыл бұрын
JHi, what I used to get my students to do to get speed right, is play very simple pieces that are quite fast. The best type of music for this is Folk music and Bush dancing music. They are played quite fast but not very hard to play. And the very good thing about these style of pieces is that they allow you to start slow and build up. The other reasons is they normally have runs in them. It is a good way to learn speed, set fingering and bowing techniques. The othe thing to note is look at what part of the bow you are playing with. If playing very fast you should be right up near the tip of your bow. If at moderate pace between the middle and the tip, for slower and more tonale sound play near the front to the middle and try and use the whole bow! Also focus on your bowing wrist! If your wrist is to tight you will never get fast bowing down pat! Try holding the bow with only three finger 1,2nd and 3rd and thumb lift your pinky off, this will encourage you to put a little more forward pressure on the bow and will give better clarity in sound. Once mastered put your pinky back down. Hope this helps!

@sven314153 жыл бұрын
@@Violinspiration Thank you very much for your answer. I started doing it without thinking about it because it felt so right to just quickly slide into the right spot if it deviates a bit. It was very interesting for me to see that you recommended it here. Technically I do not practice, like taking some sheet music and practice until I can play it. I wall mounted my violin with the bow and if I want to, I just grab it from the wall and play a few songs. Mostly children and folk songs for my family. I do not play any sheet music and just play by ear. I just hear the melody in my inner ear and play along. It seems to be so easy! I guess it is because I have a long history of playing the guitar and the piano. I just played a few songs and realized that I started to adjust intonation because if I play half tone steps they are to close for me and I have to slide to play them with the right intonation. My fingers are to thick :-)
