KenDBerryMD Hey Dr berry. I have a son that's 12yrs old. He's overweight , alot of belly fat. Every time he eats he goes to sleep or gets very lethargic. I know he's having some issues, could I get him on a keto diet? I love my son , I'm the dude that's really ketogenic. Yesterday I ran 12MILES fasted, very easy run. Ain't that a good indication I'm fully fat adapted? Sorry for the two part question. I'm really worried about my son. You're the best doctor I've ever listened to. Me and my wife love watching you. God bless you. You're the superman of doctors.

When I saw my endocrinologist yesterday, I asked her to do an insulin or insulin resistance test and she refused. I asked why not, and she said we already know that I’m insulin resistant because I’m diabetic. Regarding Glimeperide, I asked about the problem of worsening my insulin resistance and how the ketogenic diet makes that unnecessary. She replied that she doesn’t study the Keto diet. How can you be a (young) endocrinologist these days and know nothing about the effects of Keto??

I have diabetic family members, so testing is just something we do now and then .. and after watching this video.. I caught my blood sugar at 140 after a meal with bread, in the past, I have eaten pecan pie, and icecream .. and only hit 127. This video very likely saved me from becoming a full blown type 2 diabetic.

Amazing information!! I so wish this information would be spread throughout the medical community, especially endocrinology and internal medicine. You are spot on with the "wait and see" attitude that most doctors and nurse practitioners take, because of the incomplete nutritional information being taught in medical schools across the country, as well as nurse practitioner programs. Thank you so much for putting out there specific test results to look for, and how to reverse the trend toward diabetes (and other diseases) in our bodies! So glad to have found your youtube site! Wishing you all the best, and will continue following your site with interest!

In Canada, appropriate blood glucose levels for non Dianetics are between 4.0 (fasting) to 5.5 . Normal between 4.5 and 5.5. For people with diabetes the higher normal can be up to 8. After meals with medication. Mine is usually 4.0 to 5.0. considered a bit low but I always ate once or twice per day and very close to the Keto diet. All natural foods 90% of the time. Dr Berry, you have taught me so much about diabetes I am happy to teach you 1 thing. Switching between the US scale and the Canadian (Metric) is easy-peasy, just divide your number by 18 (or multiply our glucose numbers by 18). That was the only useful thing I learned from my Canadian (eat healthy whole grains) Dietitian. So 140 is 7.8.

Hello Dr. Barry! I look at your videos and I’m getting ready to do keto again. I decided to go ahead and have a metabolic work up done and my A-1 C was five. My glucose level was 103 which said it was out of range. The nurse practitioner I’m working with said that I’m not prediabetic as the A-1 C needed to be 5.7. I am currently on thyroid medication that is perfect so I know it’s not my thyroid. Plus I’m postmenopausal and taking daily progesterone at night. Diabetes runs in both sides of my family very strongly. I’m currently taking 1500 mg of met Forman but it doesn’t feel like it’s helping as I need to lose 30 pounds. Since being on the foreman I have lost10 pounds. What are your thoughts about my A-1 C read out

I'm running into a similar situation my Glucose sits around 100 and it was always 80's and 90's. I'm bone skinny and my A1c is fine. If you are 30 lbs overweight then you probably just have insulin resistance.

@ThyroidVsKeto6 жыл бұрын
I'm going to be that annoying viewer here bringin my own experience and asking for your opinion :P I was diagnosed as Insulin resistant 5 years ago because of a test similar to the one with the nome glucometers. I had my blood taken fasted, first thing in the morning in the hospital, invited to have a carb rich breakfast, and then my blood was taken again 90 minutes or so later, and in doing this (and especially when this test was made with pure glucose drink instead of just carb heavy food) my Blood glucose would be LOWER after eating than before, and I was told that was a sign I was on my ay to diabetes, it sort of made sense if I was spurting out so much insulin to send me into hypoglycemia that eventually my pancreas would've just gave up producing it, but any further explanation to this would be immensely appreciated :) Thankfully with my gluco/ketone blood meter nowadays I notice that to be a very rare occurrence and just with very dubious foods that wouldn't be keto friendly anyway
@janet-Spirit_of_the_Living_God5 жыл бұрын
Ginger's Keto In The UK Doesn't make sense to me. I had the same "glucose mapping" test done with the same results (lower after eating) and the doctor was fine with that. It makes sense that after ingesting food we'd have need for more insulin to regulate the carbs/sugars and that that would then lower our glucose level.

Thank you for all of your video's, they have helped me on my keto journey. I am sorry, I have a very detailed question and want to apologize in advance but my doctors would not agree with my choice of diets. They know I am on it, and see the results but they honestly don't understand it. I am a patient of interest to them at this point to see if Keto will work long term. With this being said I have ran into a problem I am hoping you can help me with: I have a question concerning Keto and diabetes, I'm diet controlled because I'm hypo and hyper-glycemic with dramatic swings of 70 points per 5 minute increments. Medications drives my sugar down into the dangerously low range so my physician has opted to let me be high rather than risk a coma. Any sugar's higher than 200, because my body is used to the low blood sugar, creates the panic effect and sometimes a seizure. After six months of Keto I thought I had found the solution. Apparently, my body has adapted, and now I am having sugar spikes and lows from consuming my bullet proof coffee and eating meals. Protein drinks such as premier protein do not cause this reaction but I can only consume 1 a day. Any suggestions? I just want my sugar to stay controlled. (Gastric bypass 13 years ago). I do not consume any breads or hidden carbs. Broccoli only occasionally. I just want to live a normal life as much as possible. I know that food is a medication and that fats had given me a reprieve from having to eat every 4 hours and stretched that to 6 hours and I enjoyed having the extra time. Last three attacks: bullet proof coffee: butter/mct oil/eurethrotol (spelled so wrong) and about 4 table spoons of heavy whipping cream to a 32 oz cup of coffee Dinner yesterday: shrimp salad, ranch dressing, avocado, iceberg lettuce, celery Breakfast this morning: repeat coffee

"The Real Meal Revolution" by Dr. Tim Noakes, Jonno Proudfoot, and Sally-Ann Creed. "The Big Fat Surprise" by Nina Teicholz. Even though "The South Asian Health Solution" is written specifically about treating South Asians, the book can largely be applied to people of any ancestry.

2 months ago at 43 years old I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. fasting blood sugar was at 140 and a1c was at 6.7 percent. I'm 40 lbs over weight and under the care of a dietician for a month. I've lost a few pounds maybe 7. I actually see her tomorrow for an official weigh in. she is an American dietary society dietician so I assume ketotone diet is a bad word to her. Two questions: My mom and grandmother both had type 2 diabetes. my grandmother actually lost her legs to diabetes. even if I become hight weight proportionate, can I still suffer from type 2 diabetes? My second question I: are there any Ketogenic dieticians. if so what do I look for as a professional credential?
@mannyradzky4936 жыл бұрын
Most dieticians are given advice that’s driven by Big Pharma. They want us all a little sick. If you adopt a ketogenic diet, along with some regular intermittent fasting, you will most likely reverse your diabetes. You will never have to worry about it again. You have nothing to lose by trying, except maybe your diabetes.
@kimberlycooper41706 жыл бұрын
VideosByVick , you would be doing your dietician and the dietician's patients a big favor if you gave your dietician books to re-educate the dietician. Try these: "The Obesity Code" by Dr. Jason Fung, MD. "The Big Fat Surprise" by Nina Teicholz. You want to give the dietician books that include a big reference section listing sources used to write the book.

I started keto about 5 months ago and lost 50 lbs I’m now down to 140 (I’m 5’6”) my waist to height is 0.4 and almost 4 months ago my A1C was 5.7. I got a glucose meter and started studying my blood sugar 3 times every meal. Recently I had my blood taken again my A1C dropped to 4.7, with your advice I requested an inflammatory markers panel (ESR-6, c reactive protein- 1.8) and a C peptide test which was 0.62 my doctor is concerned about me possibly developing LADA. My question for you is is it possible my c peptide is very low due to my low carb diet and IF? It makes sense to me because I don’t require as high of an insulin response since I’m eating under 30g of carbs a day and IF (18/6) on top of all my blood sugar hardly ever goes over 120 even after eating (measured at 45-1hour after). Also I feel the reference point for what is considered “normal” is most likely based on what’s “normal” For an individual who eats a SAD diet so of course their c peptide level would naturally be higher. I’m hoping I’m onto something here but having a bit of a hard time finding a lot of info on low carb n low c peptide levels and I’d appreciate your opinion on this.

This is a very interesting question. Dr Berry? Any answers about her theory of her low c-peptide levels on Keto, and possible LADA? Also, great going on the fabulous waist/height ratio, YayaPrican!

Interesting question ... easy way to know for sure is ... eat some moderate carbs for 2 or 3 days to increase insulin levels and then measure c-peptide again, if it's elevated to normal levels, your fine, return to keto

I had the same perplexing issue with fasting insulin. With the same blood draw, my A1c was 5.3 (normal) but my fasting insulin was 1.4 (which was flagged as low). Now I'm wondering if I'm having pancreatic issues or LADA, or if it's just testing a bit low bc I do low carb and intermittent fasting, and had been fasting for about 16 hrs before the blood was drawn. I'll follow up with the C Peptide as suggested in the video and see what that says. Has anyone found any more information about this up until now?

@@ranazia3709 Keep taking your meds and eating Keto. Once in a while have your Doctor carry out a medical check. A lot of people find that their health improves as they eat Keto. If your Doc feels that you no longer need the meds, then it will be their decision whether to stop the meds or not. Or you could try to find a Doctor who has a lot of knowledge about Keto.

Thanks for the great video!! Didn't know about the C-peptide test. In future videos could you address people that get a low glucose on a fasting glucose (or after a meal). I am one of these people that my glucose is low and I am so tired after carbs (so Keto has been amazing for me). Does a hypoglycemic state (over production of insulin) indicate the beginning of insulin resistance?? Seems like this might eventually lead to IR although no doctor has ever been able to answer this question. They don't care because my glucose isn't high.
@TheBeautyofCarnivore6 жыл бұрын
That was my question here also, about the Hypo indicate IR as my friend seems to need a lot of carbs to get out of the effect of being low.

I’m type 2. Up until 3 days ago, when i listened to your video about what meds are bad for inflammation and slows weight loss, i was taking glyburide and victoza. I have been trying to fast for the last several mornings at least 12 hours. My fasting blood sugars are still elevated. 160 yesterday and 172 today. Show i continue with the victoza or wait it out?
