I'm in the freezing stage of my left shoulder and I don't think people realize how painful it really is. I am one of the lucky ones who developed bilateral frozen shoulder. My right shoulder has already gone through the freezing stage so it's not sore anymore, just frozen. This all happened during my transition into menopause. No trauma, no past issues. I will just tell women if you are going through perimenopause/menopause and you start to get joint issues your loss of estrogen could be playing a major part. Doctors and PT's don't always consider menopause as the culprit but if you dig and research you will find that you are not alone. In Japan they have a term "goju-kata” which translates to "50 year old shoulder". Coincidence? I think not.

I think you are correct. I have found the link between that and menstruation in that it effects the collagen in the facia making it a different consistency which can lead to inflammation in the facia surrounding the shoulder joint capsule. Inflammation of the facia I believe also causes Plantar Fasciitis and probably a whole lot of other mysterious maladies that they don’t understand. I wrote a blog post about my my experience with FS and what I learned. If you search My Frozen Shoulder Experience on the internet you should find it. There’s other info that may be helpful too … Good luck ….

I agree with you, I actually got very ill last yeast since September. 5 month with lungs issues, then in January: frozen shoulder. Yes, doctor said there is not relationship one illness with the other. He is not listening, I have never ever been sick or ill, major issue: a a flu. So... how in the earth all of a sudden I am this bad (also pain in my waist). The onky difference I saw was; menopause. I don't believe in coincidences, so now, what should I do?

I started with the pain 5 months ago, went to the primary doctor who said it was osteoarthritis and said I didn't need to see a specialist I just needed physical therapy. So I have been in terrible pain all of this months and with the wrong physical therapy and no treatment for pain. After 5 months the Primary doctor finally gave me a referral so last week I was diagnosed with frozen shoulder and send back to therapy again and an injection. After seeing your video and reading the comments I felt like this people understand and know what I have been going through because at some moments I felt no one around me really understood my pain. Thank you so much for your video, I guess you are probably out of this now which I am glad for you!

Hi. I just found your video. I started to develop frozen shoulder end Jun and it came on so quickly. I can't find any physio places that aren't mandating masks during treatment and our state of emergency was lifted a month ago so I refuse to go to any clinic that forces the use of masks. I started researching and doing my own physio exercises. What I have been doing is great before my stretches and exercises and getting out for walks and my stationary bike. I have now started tens since I bought one last week will use it twice a day. I had to start using ice pack as of yesterday as I realized that I have inflammation and the pain was increasing, not sure if the fibromyalgia is a factor in this or not? So I was thankful to find your video. 🙏To all those suffering with either 1 or 2 frozen shoulders you can do this. Find what works for you to relieve the pain and gain back mobility 🥰🙏

Feel better. My right shoulder hurt for at least 2 years. Between shoulder exercises in the gym & not stretching, yoga, sauna, etc. I couldn't sleep because I couldn't sleep on that side. So painful. Now I incorporate all of those & muscle rub, I'm feeling alot better. I highly recommend a massage gun. That truly made a difference as well.

I have had bursitis which developed into a frozen shoulder for 6-7 months now. I’ve had around 8 physio sessions, tried to do the exercises & used heat packs, but nothing worked. I eventually saw a orthopaedic specialist, he told me that physiotherapy was pointless in the early stages, as I was in a lot of pain & had developed scar tissue around the joint. He recommended that I have a shoulder Hydrodilatation procedure which expands & releases the frozen joint with saline & a cortisone/steroid solution. The procedure was quite painful for me. It’s the day after my procedure & I’m hoping the procedure will help me.

Hi. Same diagnosis here. Bursitis/tendnosis/shoulder impingment to FROZEN SHOULDER :( 3 weeks so far in Physio - range of motion painful excersises at home as well but doing them. Dr just reffered me to Ortho Surgeon as well - yet to tbd… Im not really wanting to do any procedures atm.. How are you doing? Have you major progress in movement and lowered pain levels? I really hope so for you This is defintely a debilating and painful condition.

Hi. I've just had hydrodilation. The only part which was painful was the initial injection of cortisone and anesthetic. I couldn't feel the water going in at all. I'm worried it didn't go into the correct space. Did yours hurt when the water went in? Hoping it was successful for you!

Melissa, thank you very much for the great information. I have been experiencing pain and limited range of motion in my right arm since Feb. 2021. Finally I went to my GP in April as I could not sleep at night. It seemed like after 1-2 hours lying down the pain intensified. I was feeling so sleep deprived. Also my arm throbbed if I tried to reach up or out with that arm. My GP prescribed muscle relaxers and Physical Therapy. I do not like taking any drugs but did start Physical Therapy twice a week since May 14. They provide 15 minutes of ice after the session but did not think heat was a good idea. I had slept with the icepack to get relief but still had pain every 1-2 hours. Thank you for the TENS information. Can you let me know which unit to order from Amazon? I did not see that below. Also the Epsom Salts purchase information. Thanks so much! I appreciate learning from your video.

I had frozen shoulder around 10 years ago. The pain phase felt like someone ripping my arm off. The worst pain I ever endured. I screamed out. This pain has got to stop or there will be blood. I was becoming psychotic. I am not the dog that whimpers when in pain. I am a wounded grizzly bear. A Feral Cat had the misfortune of getting trapped on my balcony. I killed it. Not long after that. The pain went away. I could have murdered someone during that time. The pain was driving me mad. Years later, I still have soreness in my shoulder. I don't think my shoulder will ever be pain free.

I would love to see some myofascial release! I had frozen shoulder 10 years ago in my left shoulder. I now have it in my left shoulder. So painful. It started at the beginning of the year. I don't want to go to physical therapy due to the pandemic. Things are pretty scary here and our hospitals are filling. I just don't want to risk being exposed to others. I still have my printed out exercises from PT from 10 years ago. So, I am using those. I was using ice which wasn't really helping. One night when I couldn't sleep due to extreme pain in my scapula, I got out our heating pad and slept on it and was able to finally sleep. (I hadn't slept for 3 days due to pain.). I have been sleeping on it every night for a couple of weeks now. Sometimes, I put a smaller heating pad on top of my shoulder so I am kind of wrapped in heat. I use it before any exercise and stretching too. I used the pulley thing at PT 10 years ago. I have been using my dad's old cane to use my left arm holding the cane to lift my right arm higher. It is definitely a condition that wears on you- physically and mentally.

Hi, such great information. Thank you. I have been experiencing a painful r shoulder for over 6 months, I had an ultrasound and diagnosed with bursitis but when I told sonographer that the pain was really worse on my underarm and chest he said everything looked normal. Im not sure what mine is but after watching this Im thinking it is frozen shoulder! And apparently its very common in perimenopausal women (im 48) and for me I can move my arm around but it hurts worse in the morning, when i move arm forward, deep in arm pit and chest, along shoulder to neck, agonising ache and sometimes when I take a deep breath too, does that sound like it could be?

Hi Andrea, Thanks for your questions. The frozen shoulder I am experiencing right now started in the autumn. There was no acute injury. I am doing a lot better right now. I am currently in the "thawing" phase. I have been working with a personal trainer and doing a lot of myofascial release work. I am starting to see a lot of gains in the return to the range of motion of my shoulder. I am super hopeful that things are moving really quickly now! Thanks for asking! Warmly, Melissa

I'm at 5.5 months still in pain/freezing phase and shoulder will not tolerate such things as pulley without extreme pain that night and following day. I've also noticed that muscles in good arm have become very sore and spasmed.. over compensation I suppose?

I woke one morning with extreme traumatic pain in both arma, right was the worse. I went to physio right after my husband dropped kids to school. Theu helped me so much, theu used ultrasound for pain and to stimulate healing, they used laser too. Some isometric exercises. Dry needle was extremely useful providing range motion, shok gun for more range motion and pain relief. I got zero pain almost immediately after getting my physio treatment. However, i was going 3 to 2 timea a week for 2 months, and then my extended medical ended. Now, i am at home stuck in the range of motion, and even going backwards. I waa able to lift my arm almost to my ahould height, but now i can only lift my arm to the door's knob height. On top of that I developed scrutinized pain in my lower back (waist). 😢 hoping to get my extended medical back and return to physiotherapy and massage and maybe chiropractor. It has been 3 terrible months, and I believe it was related to menopause

I'm so sorry you are going through this. There is so much more information that is available now about the drop in estrogen contributing to frozen shoulder in perimenopausal/menopausal women. Hopefully your doctor will know about this and will be able to help you accordingly or you can look up the information about the way estrogen drops cause frozen shoulder and what doctors who specialize in menopause are recommending for when you go to your medical doctor so you know what protocols to request.
