It’s too late for my mom. She was the poster child for osteoporosis. Caucasian, slight, 100 pounds, no dairy growing up (one of twelve, couldn’t afford it. black coffee.). Smoker, drinker. Terrible eating habits. She had many, many fractures. Her last one happened when she was washing her hair at the kitchen sink. She turned to grab a towel and broke her femur in two places. Just like that. They told her after this one, there would be no place left for them to pin or plate. That’s how thin her bones were. Unfortunately, she was in a wheelchair after that for 20 years. She also had rheumatoid arthritis. Please, you younger people, pay attention. Get your calcium and vitamin D. Eat well, walk and exercise. It’s not too late for you older folks as well. This was a great video.

I don’t smoke or drink and have always eaten dairy! I loved riding my bike over walking. Be sure to walk! Swimming and bike riding are great exercises but walking is best for your bones. Yes, everything you said to do is great advice. I should’ve been better about taking my calcium and D. I am now.

I had a compression fracture in my early twenties in a toboggan accident. I compacted L2 all the way down in front from a hard bend (bump)!! I had a bad spasm and learned to not be around pot heads. I was in a corset for a year and it eventually grew back but I still have issues with spinal tension all the way up into my scull. It keeps me on notice! lol I recently learned that I have severe osteoporosis and started studying it. Thanks guys! Fred

My friend with osteoprosis played pickle ball and feel and broke her hip. This required an emergency surgery, three steel pins and 6 months of a very difficult recovery. I also have osteoprosis and osteopenia in three places (back/neck/hips) and personally I would NEVER play pickle ball - too intense for my age and condition. Instead I do stretching, yoga, pilates, pool upper body exercises and strength training for strength, balance and flexibility (at my senior center with teachers that are trained to work with older people.) I eat a nutrient rich diet and I also take Bio-TE bio-identical hormones which are working to restructure my bone mass. I have already regained 6% in my bone mass. I wear Keene hiking shoes with excellent bottom grips and I am VERY careful on ice. I am age 70 and being highly preventative.

Too cautious is creating unnecessary stress. But whatever works 4u. I lead senior programs for 10 years. All these moves shown, we did those n hip flexor , we do different way at senior centers.. Safety is number one. Overtly concern about safety is unhealthy. 70 years in my group is called juniors. Cheers.

DO NOT drink coffee and limit alcohol if you have osteoporosis. These two substances can cause deficiencies in Vitamin D, and Magnesium which are core vitamins and minerals for the regulation and absorption of Calcium. I found this out the hard way. I have osteopenia. My Dr. put me on a daily regimen of: Vit. D3 5000 IU daily (NOT D2!) Vit. K2 100 mcg daily Vit. C 1500 mg daily Magnesium 500 mg daily Calcium 2500 mg daily *Drink 2 liters of water daily Check with your medical provider for vitamin and mineral recommendations. Also- alcohol and nicotine deplete bone. Some SSRIs cause osteopenia-- ask your provider about this too. Women should start supplements at age 40 because bone rebuilding drops 1% per year. Talk to your provider. Weight bearing exercises should be throughout the lifespan. 50% of women will develop osteopenia and progress on to osteoporosis! Literally-- a painful truth! Ask your medical provider to order a DEXA scan definitely by age 50- especially Asian and Caucasian women. DEXA will screen for osteopenia and hopefully will be caught before age 60 and above, before progressing to osteoporosis. Additionally- European countries are researching and using low dose testosterone to rebuild bone. Yes- even women make and use testosterone. Dr. B.

Yep, years ago, at age 61, I got a compression fracture in my mid back the first time my motorcycle fell over. I backed up to it to pick it up, and heard a POP, causing pain in my left leg. I'm having difficulty coming back from a total hip replacement at 58. I go to physio 3 times a week but I like the idea of being able to sneak these exercises into my day so my brain doesn't realize we're exercising until after we're done. I loved to exercise before surgery (I'm 8 months post surgery) but having a hard time getting back into it. I realize that I have to be careful and listen to my body. DO NOT drink coffee and limit alcohol if you have osteoporosis. These two substances can cause deficiencies in Vitamin D, and Magnesium which are core vitamins and minerals for the regulation and absorption of Calcium. I found this out the hard way. Take up swimming as an exercise too! it is so helpful!

one cup coffee i think is ok a day or for couple days, skip one or two and drink green tea with basil.

Swimming doesn't apply any stress to the bone. Stress, which you get with walking, yoga, and strength training, helps to build bone.

Just bear in mind (as my doctor told me) swimming is not a weight bearing exercise, it'll keep you flexible, but it won't build bone back, you need weights and resistance for that

I have osteo porosis and find that exercise is essential. I do pilates which strengthens the core stomach muscles. Whenever bending forward or carrying something heavy pull in your core stomach muscles which helps balance and can also prevent back pain. .

I had a spiral fracture to my femur in 4/19 and found out that I have severe Osterperosias at 55. I am now 56 and have had 2 reclasses and have a bone density in August to see if I am getting better or worse. This video is a lot of help. The only question I have is how many times do I do each one?

I can’t do any of those exercises anymore. My hips and muscles have become so tight, although I do try to watch my posture & walk until it becomes painful &I have to sit down. Hip replacement surgery was canceled one time I now have another surgery date. I do enjoy watching your videos. This one especially bc I found myself wanting to flop down in the chair. Keep posting & I’ll keep watching.
