I'm sooo sorry to hear this Anelia :-( There's usually some underlying problem that surgeons and physicians just aren't trained to see or treat. It's what we specialize in here in the clinic. We often find that weaknesses or poor movement habits are at the root of a meniscus problem. Once those issues are fixed, they can feel better and the person can get back to life as normal...even with a tear. Have you heard about our 28 Day Knee Health & Wellness Boost Program? www.epmanualphysicaltherapy.com/28-day-knee-health-wellness-boost-program It may be what you need to get on the right track with your knee problem.

I had pretty bad knees and I was young (26) and my knees where fucked up. I had really bad arthritis and pain/swelling if I stood too long. My knees hurt for YEARS (6) I fixed them buy running. Yep you heard me right, running. I started off small 1 or 2 miles every three days. Then I slowly became stronger and started running more about 50 miles a month atleast. All this running made me cognizant of the food I ate so I tried to cut out junk food and sugary foods like soda. My knees and legs are well conditioned now and I have zero issues with my legs. There was a point in time that I thought I would need surgery but exercising and losing weight really really helped. Hope this helps someone.

Won't work! I'm an exercise physiologist and will tell you the only way you can fix it is with a quick 15 minute surgery and HOPE that the cartilage has not detached from the femur or tibia in what's called an articulate cartilage injury. A lot of times an MRI mistakes the articulate injury for a torn meniscus until the surgeon goes in and visibly sees the real problem. Then in that case most can be fixed with a technique called micro fracture IF the injury is less than 2.5cm. Problem is instead of a 1-2 day downtime (in most cases) after surgery with a torn meniscus, the articulate injury calls for 6 weeks off the injured leg. Good luck!

Well well, without knowing, I've been doing these low resistance exercises forever! Maybe that's one reason why my Knees have lasted so long....as a new 70yr old, 10yrs ago my Orthopaedic Surgeon highly recommended I undergo a double knee & hip replacement, but I declined! I haven't been restricted in all my daily duties, which includes maintaining our Property. I'm 99% pain free, never taken any prescribed medication or pain killers & hopefully, I will never need to have TKR or Hip replacements in the future! I recently had a full radiology/X-rays done, which shows mild OA in my hips & mild to moderate OA in my Knees. Those exercises, with good diet & supplements are so important! Kia ora👍

@John Ormsby if you don’t mind me asking, how long have you had mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis? Was there a cartilage damage too ? Did your suggest knee replacement for mild arthritis or has there been an improvement since ?
@johnormsby2034 Жыл бұрын
@@tr6151 I noticed a change in my knee function about 15mths ago, as I began experiencing slight pain in my left knee. So the onset of OA probably began to manifest just b4 15mths ago. The knee function has slowly deteriorated to the point where I wear knee sleeves, when lifting heavy weights eg: wheelbarrowing top soil. I don't take prescribed meds, but do use an organic ointment called Omrub, which helps with pain management, along with organic turmeric & cold pressed Olive oil & Cod liver oil. Using my Rowing machine, Exercycle, Treadmill & 1 km walks are helpful, along with plenty of leg 🦵 stretches. I am seriously looking at having, this year 2023, Hyaluronic injections of my left knee, so I can start jogging/running! I turned down double knee & hip replacement 10yrs ago & I will avoid TKR as long as possible...PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) injections or Stem cell replacement are other options.

If I could hug you, I would. A year or so ago I could barely make it down the stairs. My left knee has been bad since a child and my right flared up after a simple yoga routine. I am trying to drop some weight and since I have dialled back on the bread I notice a huge relief in the knee pain. I joined a gym a couple of weeks ago and the treadmill is brutal even at low speeds but I noticed the row machine seemed to feel good on my knees, also the elliptical felt like it was strengthening, but man the treadmill, even a slow walk hurt. The thought came to me that the pool might be a really good place to get some resistance without the weight. I am also going to try all your exercises and I came across the butter knife massage from another chiropractor, so I am going to give that a whirl. Thank you for this information. I’ve had so much doom and gloom from doctors. ( it’s my age it can’t get better etc) so this video is so much more positive. Thank you. Just ordered a rowing machine and will do all of this daily. I cant walk far so cycle for exercise instead, but it’s a bit hilly and the hills hurt so rowing makes sense to me. I didn’t realise that synovial fluid feeds the cartilage? Did I get that right? I am booked in for knee replacement surgery but keep putting it off. X-ray shows no cartilage and bone damage. Can these 3 tip still help me and avoid surgery if I do these tips daily? 🤞🏻🙏😊
@epmanualphysicaltherapy4 жыл бұрын
Hey Karin! Very cool that you got a rowing machine. GREAT investment in your health! Yes you heard right! The joint fluid feeds the cartilage, that's one of it's many purposes. There is a point where the arthritic changes and cartilage damage might be beyond healing naturally. Some of it depends on your specific activity level and tolerance for your current knee condition...but we have had people postpone their knee replacement to try treatment with us and then later cancel because they're feeling so much better. A great place to start at home is doing our 28 Day Knee Health & Wellness Boost Program. Have you heard about it? In this program, Dr. David covers in depth all this teachings and specific exercises he gives his patients in the clinic. So far, we've been getting great reviews from people that completed the program. You can learn more about the program here: www.epmanualphysicaltherapy.com/28-day-knee-health-wellness-boost-program You should give it a shot! Maybe you can avoid surgery. At the very least, you'll learn how to better take care of your knee replacement if you end up needing the surgery anyway.

Thank you for this information. I will try these exercises. I sometimes feel, while walking, a stab behind the center of my kneecap from the inside, as if being poked hard with an ice pick. I don't know what causes it to start hurting and why it just stops sometimes. It's very painful and stops me from simply walking from point A to B.

Thank you for this! I've been doing high rep, low weight exercises with dumbbells and a wobble board and a wobble cushion, stopped running entirely, my unloader brace is sitting unused, I have an unfilled prescription for a viscosupplement and I'm going to book a ski trip - although I'm going to be very careful what kind of terrain and skiing I do. I've gone from constant limping to rarely noticing the knee. This after a diagnosed medial meniscus degenerative problem with clear bone space narrowing. I was really getting pessimistic about recovery (I've always loved cross-training including some running, played rugby, like to windsurf, ski, do karate and motorcycle), bought a shorter motorcycle for greater stability when stopped, have taken almost two years off karate but feeling pretty optimistic about the prospect of resuming almost everything (although likely avoiding running) now. My physio and my chiro were great in getting me started, but the only way to get better is keep at it - there is no quick fix. We need more health care providers like you; surgery and painkillers have their place for extreme and acute events, but getting your body to adapt and heal is far better.

I have healed torn meniscus in one of my knees. Riding a recumbent bike was my main therapy. Provided the movement doesn’t irritate your knee, I highly recommend this exercise. In my case the circulation effect on the knee fluid countered the inflammation I was experiencing. Eventually I just didn’t experience any inflammation. Try to keep sugar out of the diet as best you can.

Well going to make an appointment . I think it’s a meniscus tear ,. Its terrifying and hope I will be okay. It’s been 5 days and very little change. Thank goodness I work from home now .
@epmanualphysicaltherapy4 жыл бұрын
You're welcome Trisha! Sorry to hear that you're having to get cortisone injections :-( A meniscus is made from cartilage tissue. These exercises should help start you on the path to long-term recovery. They won't be the exercises you'll always do, but they're a great starting point. The next steps after these exercises can get kind of complex. But we've made it simple and packaged it into our "28 Day Knee Health & Wellness Boost Program" Have you heard of it before? So nice to see people not pushing $urgery as the fix like my ex doctor did! I switched to a whole food plant based diet, did similar exercises, and soon the pain was gone and I increased my function dramatically! Even old, arthritic knees can heal!!!
@epmanualphysicaltherapy3 жыл бұрын
Hi Char! So happy you had some relief!!!
@dmbmeister02 жыл бұрын
Amen to that. A WFPB way of eating along with proper exercise can make dramatic improvements. And you are so right about various doctors only seeing surgery as the answer. While there are many surgeries with good results, I've seen enough that turned out badly that I am staying clear of that option.
@CharGC1232 жыл бұрын
@@dmbmeister0 My brother was told if he got a total knee replacement it would dramatically increase his quality of life. Two failed knees, lingering hospital infections, and 8 surgeries later, he is virtually an invalid with no knee, and his "options" are fusion or amputation! When I had a tibial plateau fracture a few years ago I was forcefully told I absolutely needed a total knee replacement if I didn't want to be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. He was very aggressive and condescending when I expressed fear and concerns, and I never went back! I decided to take my chances helping my body to heal... until all else failed. I ate well, got plenty of sunshine/vitamin D, did my own rehab, stayed off of it for 3 months, and... if I thought he'd remember me I'd love to walk into his office and kick him with my "bad" leg in his obnoxious __________! (fill in the blank)😄

I had severe knee problems around 1987 while I was in the Marine Corps. Basically I wore out the cartilage. But in doing so I subconsciously was favoring one leg over the other and so the muscles in my left leg started to atrophy without my knowledge. This put extra stress on my right knee. So eventually both knees had problems. After many months of Motrin and dealing with navy corpsman I finally got to see an orthopedic surgeon. He was an old guy who told me that years ago they would just tell their patients to take it easy. He said now we know that what's required is for you to slowly build the muscles around the joint to pull the bones apart where the pain is occurring. so for the next 6 months I was on no running at all. Hell I could barely walk without extreme cruciating pain. Anyhow the first few weeks you told me that while I was sitting at my desk to merely tighten the muscles around my knees and then relax. Repeat this about a hundred times. And then do it again as often as possible throughout the day. so you might end up merely tightening the muscles 3 to 400 times a day. A few weeks later he said I could raise my feet off the floor to add a little more pressure while doing this exercise. Several weeks after that then he told me I could cross my legs and exert a little bit of more pressure against the leg muscles. this whole process took several months of slow deliberate work. But he said that it could Stave off surgery for 5 or so years. like I said this was around 1987. it has now been 32 years and I have not had any major problems with my knees since.😁 best of luck to you whichever exercises you go with, just keep at it and have patience. it will pay off.👍
