As an ex amateur boxer with a record of 68-8-1 i like to think i know both my way around a ring and have a good judgement of a boxers attributes that stand him apart from his peers. Lomachenko has got to be one of, if not the best ever when it comes to footwork and boxing IQ. If he was American he would be getting the fame he so much deserves.

1:22 Actually Vasyl also uses a variation of this technique. He changes stances while doing this. So basically when he slips right, he takes a big step with his right foot to his right, jumps off his left foot and turns his hips and his upper body towards the left so he ends up in an orthodox stance. From there he usually throws one or two punches and either slips the same way back to the left into south paw position or he simply resets. That's what makes his slip so special in my opinion. By twisting his hip and his upper body he turns much quicker. Also he has that explosiveness from pushing off of his left leg.

Another trick Lomachenko likes to do is cover up his opponent's high guard with a throwaway left hand and side-step them as they are blinded. Lomachenko in general is good at manipulating an opponent's high guard (see how he sometimes slaps down his opponent's hands while they are guarding for a lead hook). Another fighter to study for masterful use of angles is Orlando Canizales. His footwork is simply beautiful.
@discowolf256 жыл бұрын
Your videos are so simple and effective. Love it man. His angles are impressive but to me Vasyl genius is taking his opponents vision away using pretty standard feints and shifts. He can bait with that simple 1-2 or double jab, all his opponents can see is either his glove, or elbow (if he baits em with that hook which I've seen him do in every pro fight so far). if they perry, block, or cover, he's already created an angle at that point which makes him look like he's in the matrix. Must be SO frustrating to fight him. It's incredible.

fightTIPS It's not the same because this only works southpaw vs orthodox
@calogerogriffin8617 жыл бұрын
Ernest Valentinus Wkwk land :v
@seanwood45027 жыл бұрын
From my understanding if you reversed it as Shane says you can use the same tactics but it would only work against a Southpaw. You would have the same openings but just with opposite hands, your jabbing hands would be in line with each other as would your rear hands. Whereas in a mirrored stance ((orthodox vs orthodox) or (southpaw vs southpaw)), your jabbing hand is inline with opponents rear hand and there jabbing hand with your rear hand. The problem is that southpaws are much more adept to fighting in an opposite stance because they are usually practicing against an orthodox fighter whereas we don’t usually fight southpaws. A tactic I have found useful is mirroring a southpaws stance by switching to southpaw, this can really throw them off because they are not use to fighting other southpaws. Because I am use to fighting in a mirrored stance against other orthodox fighters, it’s the same openings that I am use to seeing but just in reverse...so with the opposite hands. If you want to try this tactic make sure you can throw punches correctly from a southpaw stance before you switch stance in sparring or you will get a beating! I start in an orthodox stance and if I’m doing well I won’t switch but if things start going sideways it’s a good plan B :)
