I really appreciate your positivity and the reminder to be intentional. Life threw some things at me in 2023 and rather then be down about them, those events helped me to appreciate my life as it was. I still have not converted my Transit Connect for road life but I have spent more time locally with Aunts, Uncles and other relatives while I have the chance. My life is good, I like my job, everyday I do something to simplify my life and I say "yes" more often to new experiences. Thank you for sharing you and your perspectives.

Great thoughts to share! I’m trying to remind myself that I am still recovering from a number of years of doing what I needed to do, but being very unhappy with being stuck in that situation. So, as I strive to be kind and compassionate to others, I need to extend that more to myself. Needing down time is not being lazy, but I tend to label it such. Just being in the moment, relishing the beauty around me for more than 5 min is still a challenge. Baby steps! Thanks for your posts, Dee!

Hi Dee. I've been following you and Bev since around the time each of you started your KZbin channels. Unfortunately, I was unable to start my van life, as two years ago I became a paraplegic and had to sell the enormous van I was converting to buy a wheelchair accessible van. Nevertheless, I still enjoy following you two because you are both inspirational. I found this to be one of your most impactful videos. I feel being in a wheel chair has given me time to reflect on how I interact with the world. It makes me take the time to think carefully before I speak. Or just STFU. Hi Dee! Love your channel, dig your van thanks so much for sharing. I hope your holiday season was filled with love, laughter and joy. For myself, vanlife helped me learn to stop caring what other people thought of me and I started living my life for myself rather than other peoples idea of what my life should be. It also taught me a lot about some of the friends I've known for decades. A lot of them were very judgmental. For context, I belong to a club in which we go camping 8 times a year, every year, and they were all still surprised when I choose this lifestyle 😂😂😂 Only one asked the million dollar question "Are you happy?" when I said yes she replied "That is all that matters." The only thing vanlife hasn't done is cure my road Tourette's. I still curse like a sailor when people drive stupid around me.

These experiences happen to many of us nomads as we learn the things that are so much important to us personally. What others do, say, and how they react in their own little world should not have that great an impact on us personally...like the driver who cuts you off in traffic. I use to get angry at people who did that to me. Now, I realize that behavior like this are either morons or they are unhappy people. Their behavior shouldn't impact my attitude 😊. Why? I am happy and content with my life. As long as I have my good health, my positive mental attitude, and love from those important in my life, life is good. We are living a life that millions wish they could live. Your videos give a great insight into living the van life, the life of a happy nomad.

Thank you for your wisdom. I have found downsizing and living in a micro tiny house has made me very intensional with what I allow I to my space. So now I actually say no to gifts people give me because I can’t accommodate their ‘good intention’. I politely thank them for the gift and ask if they would like the ‘gift’ back because I can’t accommodate it or would they like me to pass it onto someone who has space and can use it…

Wise words, as always. My own natural tendency is to be much more critical of myself than of others, though not in a destructive way. Just keeping it real, and not trying to rationalize when, for instance, I truly am lazy about something. I've already weighed how rest benefits me, before I decide I've been lazy above and beyond that. ;-) Being able to be lazy when I want to, without it doing harm, is something I've made a goal, and succeeded at. So, it's not something to berate myself for, to about the same extent that it's not something to be overly proud of. It's just a choice of how to live. A big benefit, is that it also creates free time which can be used as needed, to over achieve when under pressure. A project with no slack built into it, is a project pretty sure to fail. A joke at the favorite place I worked, with the best people, was that if you were going to do a project yourself, you needed to multiply your time estimate by pi, and if others were doing the project, you needed to multiply it by 2 pi. I can have thoughts which many would consider critical or pessimistic, but I feel reflect reality. Either way, I admit my true perceptions, and don't let them drag down my morale, self esteem, motivation, or ability to be very happy in life. Life is neither perfect, nor is it a competition, even for people who fare well when graded on a curve. A successful life either contains a few significant failures and disappointments, plus plenty of successes and joys, or was lived more cautiously than I prefer to live mine. I accept and even hope that my last symphony will be unfinished, because that is true of anyone who doesn't tie up every loose end prematurely, then shut down and create no new loose ends.
