Hi, I just discovered your channel. I'm an old guy now (57), looking to stay in shape & was looking at joining yet another MA school, or even cardio kickboxing that's become so popular. I have the bags in my patio gym, so why spend the money when I can find good instruction on here. Also, I can rewind/review (can't do that in a real gym/dojo, lol). Anyway, I appreciate your low-key teaching style and you don't assume that your style is "THE" style. Adding a simple statement that people can adapt their style to your workout is helpful. It's almost like some folks need permission, but you're savvy enough to know that and that they should check rules for their sport/style. Anyway, thanks for a great channel, I'm looking forward to training with you ;-)

Good vid man, I use a lot of boxing heavybag videos whilst I workout but I've been looking for some good kickboxing vids for a while. One question though, I always feel i'm too close to the bag after throwing my cross to kick effectively, is it my kicking technique that's slightly off or what? Thanks again
@MixedMartialHelp5 жыл бұрын
If you put up a video of you doing the movement I'll be able to break it down and fix it for you. Just message me on here when it's up, or on twitter with the link (youtube sometimes puts comments with links into spam!". Without seeing you it could be the way you bring the punch back and prepare for the kick, usually a right cross is closer range than the kick, so if I rotate my body clockwise to finish the punch I need to put my back foot down into a position where I can balance to kick. Try taking your right foot out and back to the right a little as you kick. Do it slowly until you can step out without stopping your clockwise turn out of the punch, because that clockwise turn will give the kick the momentum it needs. If you do it 10-20 times slowly I would expect some to just feel better like the range suits you. Find that sweet spot and then start to add the speed. Hope that helps!
@prospero91x5 жыл бұрын
@@MixedMartialHelp Thanks for the reply man! I'll use your advice next time I hit the bag. I also think it could be that i'm using a free standing bag and not a heavy bag so it springs back to it's normal position a lot quicker than a heavy bag would after a strong right cross.
@MixedMartialHelp5 жыл бұрын
@@prospero91x 100% that will change the timing, but if you get it right on a standing bag it transfers well into soarring if your partner doesn't move from the cross! 👊🔥

Some good combinations here. I've got a lot on my plate, so I won't be training that much harder than usual, as there's already a lot going in my life... in that sense, me taking a kickboxing fight at this point may not be optimal timing, on the other hand, it's something I wanted to try beoming a father (my girlfriend's expecting around the 24th of Septmeber)... so I decided to face a larger kickboxer (I believe he is like 84 kgs and I am probably like 69 kgs, it's gonna be catchweight), he's trained Kickboxing more than I have, where I'vve mostly trained Kung Fu (and mixed in elements of kickboxing, and then taken some kickboxing class at the MMA gym the last couple of weeks).... but it's a first time for both of us stepping up to fight full contact in the ring... so I'm hoping I can just take off all pressure and feel free in there and not be too nervous about getting hurt, we'll probably both have some nerves but I'm hoping I can have the mental edge feeling calmer. We'll see :) Anyways, these combos are a bit like stuff I like to do, some of them I do use... but it s a nice refresher :)

Right on brother!! I hope training is going well, I know how crazy things can get when baby is on the way!! :D I did similar in that I took on a few big martial art challenges before my lad was born and I'm glad I did because now I have even less time haha! I really like the simple style of combos in this video because they allow a good pace and they can easily be switched around to match your opponents reactions.

Is it ok to lean to the left like that one every roundhouse kick? And stay flatfooted through the whole motion? Also, are those socks?
@MixedMartialHelp5 жыл бұрын
In training it's fine, the step out and moving the body over gives a lot of momentum for the kick, it's not something you would do 100% of the time in a fight though, feel free to do the combos in your own style, too. Flat foot works if you step into the pivot, otherwise it can cause problems with your ankle and knee, but that's the rule of thumb for a roundhouse, if you don't get your toes out, you can't rotate your hips! Socks were a temporary fix after I got a problem on my foot, wasn't sure where I picked it up from and wasn't going to miss training while it healed. One sock somehow seemed stranger than two.

You shouldn't put your head so low when you kick. A counter could easily hit you hard....but combo combo here. Ty

Right on brother, I use the full version of Filmora Wondershare. Hope you're doing well dude!
@davidwebb65563 жыл бұрын
You say on the voice over to pivot on the ball of your feet. This is correct but you don't actually do this in the video. If you concentrate on going up on your tip toes and standing much taller your form will improve. Also, check where your heel is pointing on the kick - most of the time your heel is pivoting about 90 degrees. That isn't enough. Try to get your heel to point towards the target, rotate it more towards 180 degrees, or at least somewhere between 90-180. That will allow you to engage your hips better and your power will skyrocket.
@danielwhite42055 жыл бұрын
How long did it take to condition you're feet? Mine are pretty bruised after doing the workout?
@MixedMartialHelp5 жыл бұрын
Good question, I should do a video on it! My advice is if it's hurting and bruising then you need to take the power down and give your body a little time to adapt. Try to connect more with the shin on roundhouse kicks because it's a lot strong than the foot. But connecting with the foot is unavoidable with large bags and different kicks! The general rule is that light training often will condition you more quickly than hard training where you must take days off.

This is my next wed night for sure. y?Your head goes so low though, and from experience getting caught there Hurts!
@MixedMartialHelp3 жыл бұрын
Hope you have a top workout! Keep the head movement relative to your style and personal preferences! I've been training since 1993 so I'm picturing different things happening when I go to the side, using the bag like shadow boxing. It's not random (although it can look that way), I'm avoiding counter shots.
@joelawler81143 жыл бұрын
@@MixedMartialHelp couldn't resist and wait till wed. I always step before a rear roundhouse, your way looks so much quicker but the kick is so much closer, I suppose that's were the lean helps to adjust the distance . Defo going to have this as a regular work out. Something to work on thanks
@MixedMartialHelp3 жыл бұрын
@@joelawler8114 right on brother, LOVE your attitude! That's right about the spacing too, coming out to the side creates a wide angle for the opposite leg to attack, while also keeping you a moving target. 👊👊

There are many ways to kick, if you learn martial arts you will come across them.
@Blackwater3135 жыл бұрын
Man you’re not suppose to throw two shots from the same side, there’s no power in it and you’re kicking with your foot. It should be with your shin. Well at least this is what my instructor and Rob Kaman taught it’s a fundamental.
@MixedMartialHelp5 жыл бұрын
That's solid advice for a beginner. Keep up your training and good luck. I have some of my old fights on here, I land plenty off the same side, it just takes more skill. I'm never aiming with the foot on here, but a bag is wider than a body or a leg so even when the lower shin lands the foot can also touch, it's fine. As with any bag work video just take the combinations and make them your own.
@Blackwater3135 жыл бұрын
Martial Lee - Vegan Roundhouse Kicks haha I have a few years striking and grappling. It’s just a rule that we have at the academy. Never throw from the same side. For example the jab cross and kick from the same side would be used differently for us. Jab as a range finder, cross is thrown to land/get your opponent to react throw the left hook (orthodox stance) and end any combination with a leg kick or body kick. It’s the Dutch style of kickboxing.
@MixedMartialHelp5 жыл бұрын
That makes more sense than a blanket rule of "don't do it". Too many people on here think something can only be done one way because they have a few months training and have to learn to do it one way so they don't get confused. I'm a big fan of Dutch style, my coach was friends with Rammon Dekkers.
@noahjones215 жыл бұрын

It's super weird that you lean your head frowrd while you kick. Protect that chin, don't offer it to your opponent.
@MixedMartialHelp2 жыл бұрын
I time it to throw it as a counter kick mid combination. I land it a few times in my fights playlist. It's more to the side than forwards, but see sawing the body weight across as you pivot.
