Like someone else said. Testing loads with something hanging off your barrel is counter productive. If you just use it to get a couple of velocities fine. But take it off for shooting and measuring groups. Thanks for the content. I am going through some woes with my new 300wm currently as well.

Reloader 22 is what is in FGM with 190gr H1000 for 220MK in 300 WM 308 Win FGM is IMR 4064 same as M118LR

I would bet that they are using a commercial canister grade powder. Its well know that the 308FGM uses IMR4064.

We have to remember one very important factor. All the tests that give us “baseline” info were drawn from universal test receivers or other guns. No two barrels are the same..if we are to conduct said tests, we have to get data produced by the weapon we are going to use.

Yes, I agree with you. My 190s with R-22 was 71gr and I was still getting pressure signs. My O/L was short of the lands at a factory length . So, I keep the loads light, and get 1-11/4" groups and happy for that. There are things called Magnum flyers. A shot that comes out of nowhere to enlarge the group.

Are you using standard or Magnum primers? Magnum primers can cause pressure spikes with this cartridge sometimes.

I shoot 200gr Sierra H4831 @ 74.0 WW Brass and WLR primer You should do better than 1 11/4” at 100 y

I’m happy your back with the winmag content:) was a little worried I wouldn’t see anything on it for a while. I understand why people don’t feel that its a great test piece, but I have a 308win that I’ve had good luck with and I think finding the load combination is most of the fun. Thanks Jeff, it is going to slow down soon but I had this started so I was going to go over it. I haven't seen anything from JRB on it so I wonder where his project stands. Surprised you have had good luck in 308, as eagle eye and 243 outdoors certainly struggled. I think they slowed their reloads down to find accuracy as well so that's my next strategy. Not sure how much I will or wont cover. If they all dont go in the same hole everyone thumbs downs the video.

Bolt Action Reloading. Well to be fair, I consider 1.5 inch groups a success:) but I have 3 guns that I’m able to load varget a little short and they all do well, in my opinion. Hope you don’t let thumb downs bug you, it just means your consistently putting out good enough content to warrant a few anti-gunners to troll your channel. Consider it a compliment:)

Woah, hold the phone here. Standard Deviation in the single digits is phenomenal... if you have a SD of 10 to 15 that’s typically considered really good and more than adequate when shooting out to 1,000 yds or so. Aside from you the reloader, and he ammo, the rifle barrel and action has a HUGE play in your SD so if your running a non custom built rifle I wouldn’t even expect anything below 12

Hey Bill, In my factory Ruger precision rifles as well as my 110BA stealth with "good" Brass seeing Sd's below 10 are pretty much expected and 7 is very realistic. This rifle has been a little more challenging.

Bolt Action Reloading Agreed. It’s certainly attainable. I just notice online everyone has a single digit SD but when attending long range matches I was surprised to find most people were in the 10-15 range.

I really like watching your channel, keep up the good work. I’m sure you’ve heard this 100 times, but you’ve got to get that magnetospeed off of your barrel if you want to shoot groups-especially on sporter contour barrels. I’m dealing with this currently in several guns. On any of my guns short of the diameter of a truck axle, group size and poi change in varying degrees. I’m looking st the Wiser Precision Mount, or going all in on The Labradar.

I used 175gr SMK for all my 30 cals... including 300 win mag...i got 500 on sale that were pull downs and it made life easier. I use Winchester primers because they have higher bricence (sp..) about 30% more ignition strength in order to light the slower powders in big càses.. 0.29 spreads..all shots same hole...but i don't hunt with SMK..

When you are doing these tests, how long do you wait between shots? And how many shots do you shoot before letting the barrel cool down

Hi Thomas. It depends on how many total you plan on firing and how fast it heats up. I am never in a hurry. If I have 5 shot groups I may shoot 5 in 5 minutes and let it cool a little. I rarely shoot more than 1 time per minute. My 300 win mag has a thin barrel and it usually needs to be ran slower than a 223. (Hopefully that makes sense) I generally try to keep the barrel so I can hold on to it comfortably.

My rifle I loaded up 3.45" OAL in Federal Brass with Winchester WLRM primers over 75.1gr of H1000. Been a very successful load for me, but my rifle has shot 1" with some projectiles over the entire load range. Mine as a good jump as it was a match chamber with long throat. But 3.45 puts top of boattail at bottom of neck leaving only the boattail in the cartridge below the neck.

Anyone else seeing the shiny ring of case head separation on the fired brass about 1/3 the way up from the case head? Careful dude.

Thanks for your concern wade but I check all these before we load and there isn't any issue here. The case diameter of fired brass right below the belt is .512" on my factory ammo as well as my reloads. Sized they push back to .511" Some prefer measuring to check for pressure but its difficult to show on camera in a reasonable amount of time and usually occurs along with primer flattening which we we didn't have much. This firing pin craters primers so there is no difference there either. I have a rcbs case master station that I check all the brass for any separations with as well. No issues.

300 Win Mag H4831 especially with 200gr bullets . RL 22 with 190gr IMR 4831 with 180gr IMR 4350 or IMR 4831 with 165gr/168gr IMR 4350 with 150/155 Gr For 40 years of reloading the 300 Win one of my favorite cart to reload I use WW brass and WLR primers and my loads are close to 300 WBY loads levels.

Thanks for the vid man. That rifle isn't worth the time, effort, and precision you put into the loads you're feeding it. I hope you cut your losses with this one and buy a higher-quality gun (at least one with a shorter throat) that will give you a fighting chance at good accuracy.

Last 300 Win Mag video we found a group that was .5 MOA. Most haven't been but maybe this thin barrel just needs something different than we have tested. I certainly wouldn't buy another and would advise against anyone else either but it is certainly affordable for someone. Probably going to slow down with 300 Win mag here soon, If I get another some day it will certainly be a "higher quality" rifle.

Rifle not the issue. It's the thin barrel. Put a medium grade 24"-26" threaded barrel on. Wow RL23 could be awesome w some 153-160 in my .264 WM. Great job brother. Hope u had great 4th July.
