I hunted elk for four decades and one thing I know is out past 300 yds if you don't hit a rib a high percentage of the time the bullet will not expand and just drill a hole that provides no usable trail, I have seen it with poly tipped hps and solid copper hps and soft points like Core Lock.

@@phild9813 😁 the 30-06 is just awesome for heavy pills. I am handloading a 200 grain ELD-X and the results are impressive. Not sure what the true expansion threshold for the CX are, that would be my only concern out of the 30-06. But based on the test here they seem to expand quite willingly 😂. Are you happy with the performance out of the 30-06 so far?

@@AlaskanBallistics Ohh ya, defintly agree! Thats one of the reasons why i use Barnes in my hunting rifles. Have some other copper brands, but only have taken an animal with Barnes. Interested to see what the Winchester copper impacts will perform. Looks like a fast expanding bullet that will do serious damage to any large game animal. Maybe to much.

I’m a proponent of Barnes as well. Terminal performance consistency is awesome with Barnes, I know EXACTLY what the bullet is going to do on an animal every time. I’ve seen a couple failures to expand in the Winchesters on YT here into gel, one was on Vortex’s channel. I have a couple boxes of it in 30-06 for sale, never been opened, lol.

@@phild9813 Well damn, thats not good. Guess ill use them for after cleaning the barrel and re copper fouling , or getting the rifle back on paper so i dont waste any of the good stuff. Was hopeful that i could have a backup bullet if i cant find, or get any Barnes.
