Just to say thank you Mike. My parcel arrived today with the door catch step, lovely piece of kit. The clamps are really interesting, I will find lots of uses for them. Now, the "Richard's" pry bar, what a little gem of a tool and thank you for cutting the end off, it has saved me having to send it to my man at the machine shop to do.

Glad everything got there ok! Those clamps are so handy - 1001 uses! I cut the tool down to make it better for shipping!

@@BritannicaRestorations Thanks again, I guessed you cut it down for shipping. Saves me a job! I am a bit of a multi trade so the clamps will find many uses.

Mind your hearing with that air wrench, I have bad tinnitus mainly in my left ear as I am right-handed and usually had my left side pressed up against the wheel arches where it echoes a lot, it is bloody annoying thing to get.

Have you heard from an induction heater brilliant for rusty nuts and bolts! I am getting one for my son as we are restoring a 1987 porsche with lots of rusty fitting.

So, lacking the magic socket set, what would have been your next step to get that bolt out? PS: I admire your restraint; I'd be cursing and throwing weighty items around the shop by the point you finally freed it up.
@BritannicaRestorations5 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave! I have taken the whole assembly off the axle form the swivel ball and drilled out the bolt - you cannot just drill off the head bugger of a job!

sadly I've had the rounded calliper bolt more time than I care to remember. I have the Irwin bolt gripper sockets and they do work but not always. My next method (and sometimes one I go straight to if the bolt looks badly corroded) is an air chipping hammer with a cold chisel point. It takes a bit of practice but if you start by aiming the chisel straight down into the bolt from the top (Chisel perpendicular to the rotor/inline with the axle), hammer the chisel into the bolt to create a groove then gradually tilt the chisel in the undo direction.

Hi Mike, great videos. It is teaching me a lot about mainting my own TD5. Question however, you mention that there was barely any oil in the hub/ball, but shouldn't it be filled with grease instead of oil? My manual mentions EP00 grease, and i saw in some webshops that you can get some of those oneshot grease packets. Is this different because mine is a TD5? Cheers, Leon!

Yes I should have said lubrication - one shot grease is the way to go

Hi Mike, love watching your videos. My two front tyres are like new on the outside but badly worn on the inside. It's a 1988 Defender 127 Ex. Ambulance so I've got my work cut out. Would that be tracking or camber or both?
@BritannicaRestorations5 жыл бұрын
More than likely the tracking needs checking

I bet somebody used the diff oil to rustproof the chassis! Do you have to mix EP 90 with grease to get the correct consistency for the swivels?

No I buy the grease in pre measured containers www.paddockspares.com/stc3435-one-shot-grease.html
