Hahha, wish you'd done this 6 months ago, took me weeks to solve that leak and find that part number! And cost me an entire new assembly when over tightening caused a huge crack!

Another great video Mike, full of those small bits of information that you are now famous for giving in your videos. I had the same problem when I first bought my 110 with a 200Tdi in it. Now it is great to see around the filter housing area dry and in some places even going rusty. It is nice to see a proper mechanic doing his job. Best wishes from Yorkshire Rob.

How spooky. I changed that very O ring myself, last week. When I got the housing out and looked at the old O ring and the new one and immediately thought ‘oh no, I’ve got the wrong one’. Checked the part number and then my sensible brain kicked in and reasoned that the old one was misshapen and that was why it was leaking. But you’re right, it does look as though it should be that shape 😂

My Discovery 300TDI is leaking in that vicinity. Sadly, an o-ring that lists for 26 cents in the UK will cost me around $200 and take a month to arrive here in Kenya. I think I'll continue to live with a few drops of oil on my driveway.

Remove the old hard o-ring and then try a ring of Gasket silicone in the o-ring area.

If it is a 110 you can use dowel bolts to pull the box back and replace the I ring - but no room on a Disco or RR

Thanks Mike. Fixed this, and now the return pipe on turbo leaking oil at the fitting. Wonder if fix is similar. Will be nice to one day have a 100% oil leak free 110, although this is possibly wishful thinking.

Hi Mike, When I change the canister filter on my TD5 I put a plastic over it to catch the oil as I remove it.
@BritannicaRestorations
@BritannicaRestorations 2 жыл бұрын
On the 300Tdi you can clearly see the filter and get at it BUT you have to get your arms round the steering tubes and damper maybe next time when I am not in a hurry I will drill a hole in the filter and let it drain first!

Britannica Restorations Ltd If you get a uk 5lt container and cut it in half use the handle side upside down push it up to the filter to catch the oil and filter. No mess 👌😉

Hi Mike, great explanation! Thanks for make it easier!. One year ago I replaced both oil cooler pipes because they were not serviceable, leaking at some points, and put a new pressure switch, thermostat, gaskets, o'rings... So filter housing seemed brand new. A few weeks ago I noticed that the lower pipe (ESR3691) was leaking by the nut, after the thermostat housing, so I thought it must be the o'ring... I've been replacing the o'ring (ESR1594L) three or four times but continues leaking and it's driving me mad... Could be the pipe then? Thank you very much!
@BritannicaRestorations
@BritannicaRestorations 2 жыл бұрын
Could be the pipe or a defect inside the housing -requires further inspection, but as I am aware you need to remover the injector pump to get the oil filter housing off

How many washers should be on the 200 thermostat, Mike? Mine had one, but some seem to have none, and the Parts Manual and Workshop Manual contradict each other, last I saw.
@BritannicaRestorations
@BritannicaRestorations 2 жыл бұрын
Yes some have 1 and some have 2 - but I have not seen none The filter I fitted to the 2.25 had one - this one had 2 Must be something to do with the spring tension to shut off the thermostat
@darrenphillips6456
@darrenphillips6456 2 жыл бұрын
Mine had 2 but when I took it off the spring & the washers fell to the ground & I wasn’t sure where the washers went. Incorrectly I guessed at the other end of the spring. On doing it up the flange broke. I bought a secondhand housing & the thread was different for the coolant hose. Nightmare. I share this in the hope it’ll help someone else.

My oil filter does t seem to always leak only when I use the ryco filter, would you suggest it is still most likely the same o ring in the tutorial? I’ve started mine without filling the filter 🤯 would you say this to cause any damages?
