I have used a wsm for around three years as a deer rifle. Accurate, smooth, and nice dropping power out to 300 yards. Haven't tried anything past that. Mine is a Savage with a left handed bolt. It's been a nice addition to my collection

Short and fat does not mean more powder. In fact, the Winchester engineers found with less powder, they could achieve more efficient powder burning, getting nearly identical ballistic performance to the older 300 Win mag.

I shoot a 300 WSM Savage bolt action rifle for deer and hog hunting with Winchester 150 gr. Silver Ballistic tip Ammo. Lots and lots of 1-shot kills without them even taking a step ( drop in their tracks ) by shooting double lung shots through the ribs. 3 1/2 inch to 5 inch exit holes at ranges out to 275 yards because that's about the longest shot on our hunting lease. Much love for the 300 WSM with the 150 gr. Winchester ammo mentioned above. I have tried the 180 gr. in ammo mentioned above but it does not have the devastation to the animal ( Deer, big and small hogs ) that the 150 gr. does and it is flatter shooting than the 300 Win Mag too ! I hope you like yours too. Keep your powder dry and your shots on target !

You remind me of my dad's hunting buddy Jim every year he have a different rifle he went to a 30-06 to a 25-06 to 300win to 7mm mag. My dad could figure out why, my dad bought a 30-06 from his dad in 1952 and used it tell 1986 when he quit hunting. I used a 30-30 1978 tell 1985 when I went to pistol (S&W 44mag) 1993 when I quit hunting.

I was in need of a new rifle for a 12 day DIY Moose trip in AK. No way was I going to use one of my "finer" rifles on a rain soaked trip. The XPR in 300 WSM, just like yours was the choice. I changed the stock to a Boyds, and it has now become my first choice! Stumbled upon the 300 WSM when I bought my son's hunting rifle. I started him out with 130 Interlocks to keep the recoil down, and never switched! It has pounded deer, elk, antelope, bear. For what ever reason it works better than anything else I've used. Hope you enjoy.

I bought a Winchester XPR 300 win mag and glad I avoided the short mag as ammo is hard to find for short mags . I picked up 48 once fired 300 win mag brass at the range the last 6 months and not one short mag case .

I have a 300wsm Win XPR. I put it in a Boyds stock, threaded the barrel and added a brake. I load hornady 178eldx bullets and it shoots sub moa. It does kick pretty good in that plastic stock. lol

Nice rifle who tee! That scope looks like a spotting scope it's so big, great shooting in those temps. Try the 165 extended range in that wsm big difference in felt recoil and unbelievable long range accuracy, those 180 s are great if you hunt elk , moose, or big bear they definitely can handle them . Good video, short action feels crisper to operate I think. Was there a little cant? hard to tell on the video, I use a bubble level. Having scoped my self twice years ago I love the 4" eye relief on my NSX 5.5-22 56mm. Easier to keep on target

300 WSM, pronounced 300 WIZZ EM. I have one, it’s my go to rifle! Recoil with the heaver projectiles is somewhat aggressive so after a day at the range my shoulder isn’t happy . Mine really likes 165 gr and hates 180s so I suggest you play with a few different loads. As for the Winchester XPR they are definitely one of the best entry level rifles out there, a bit of a combination of Browning A Bolt, action, Bagara barrel and Winchester Model 70 ish trigger, and the inflex recoil pad is probably the best factory pad out there! Wow ,do I sound like a gun salesman, (I am). 😆

I love them all. But if I could only have one I would pick 7mm rem mag. 6.5 Creedmoor is much easier to get good groups with at long range because of the much lighter recoil

One of the only things I don't see a point in is making the case shorter and fatter, only to lose capacity in a standard box mag. I know my 3006 Savage holds 5 plus 1, and my 223 Savage 12FB holds 7 plus 1. They are only advertised as 4 rounds but they handle more. I slap in a shorter fatter round with the same ballistics as as an older and longer round I lose some capacity. I may get a short action, but that's my only positive and ammo is more expensive and harder to come by. Just a thought. If you can get stuff for cheap and or free, by all means stack it deep. I really enjoy your videos WTH but the Short Mags sound cool but it's just a more expensive way of doing what you could do with a 300WM or getting a 30-06 and some superformance loads just a wee bit hot. I do know one thing, you can sure make yourself some elbow room at the range shooting a 300wm or other magnum. All that concussion gets them innards moving.

When I was looking at getting a .30 cal more specifically a .300 WSM since my Dad and now two of my brothers have .300 Win Mags, I did handle the Winchester XPR, except it was the one with a FDE cerakote and a Strata camo stock. Decent rifle I am sure, but I really was hoping to find a deal on a Tikka T3X. But I have not shot a magnum in such a light close to 6 lb rifle and they can get up there in price. I did end up with a new Savage M110 in the Long Range Hunter with the Accufit stock, etc... in .300 WSM and it is 8.4 lbs with an adjustable muzzle brake both of which help tame recoil. I tried reloading some 165 grain Nosler Accubonds with extremely mixed results. Once I learned the bladed Accutrigger I was able to get better groups with some factory ammo in the Hornady 180 grain GMX Outfitter line, the Federal Berger Hybrids in 185 grain, and even the Hornady 200 grain ELD-X (not sure why they don't make 178s in factory loads). Might have to try those Normas too since they are in that 180 class which is what my rifle seems to like so far. Thanks for sharing. Why is the scope on such high rings? You obviously shoot well with them, but I have a 20 MOA pic rail on and lows with a 4-12x40 Redfield scope (want to get a Leupold VX-3i or VX-5HD for it eventually).

You should get Paul to take that rifle and your 770's and grit polish the inside of the actions real good and get them real good and slick and round any sharp edges and do the same with the bolts. And debure and round any metal and sharp edges the bolt handles touch in the cradles..

Literally my entire family shoots the 7mm-08. Son, daughter, wife, and me. And we all LOVE IT!!! Best thing about the 7mm-08 is that it hits like a .308 and has the softest recoil. You can even get Hornady SST 129 grain “reduced recoil” factory loads that hammer deer and pigs at less than 200 yards there is zero difference in the hold of the bullet patterns. I suggest the 7mm-08 to anyone that wants a badass round with little to no recoil and will kill anything up to and including elk.
