You may already know this but Harben Jet pumps make an incredibly reliable pipe cleaning machine . what you may not know is they work great for drilling shallow wells( At least in Florida). If you attach pressure steel conduit to the hose and attach a 1 forward jet head on it it will cut through just about anything. I know this because i ran one for years and helped a buddy out that hit some rocks and clay while sinking his casing. It went through so fast we almost lost it.I think you will find the design of the pump pretty awesome as well. Its a great pressure washer as well. There are used ones out there and the are easy to rebuild. Best of luck to you and your family!

Get that snowblower attachment front mounted like you've talked about..and working well, and it will allow you to throw the snow away off the sides, instead of of trying to just plow it to the sides and fighting it each time. True there might be yrs. where you could get away w/plowing it, but there will be more that you do need it. One thing not on your 'winter rules' list is a snowmobile..which is vital if you ever get buried in and everything breaks down and you need to get out in an emergency..look for a cheap one over the late spring and summer if you can, when prices are low. Have to add in a Edit: you are back on track, and even if the tasks and needs seem almost insurmountable at times..you Are getting there!

We had a woodpecker who drilled perfect 3" holes in the cedar siding at my parent's house in Tahoe. At the end of the day, hanging 2-3' mylar strips, 1-2" wide, from the eves and putting in a few solar powered owl decoys seemed to do the trick scaring it off.

I believe woodpeckers are protected so you will have to be careful of how you "take care of them." We had the same problem. One side of our house was covered in cedar shake shingles and a woodpecker persisted on putting holes in them. The shingles were getting older and were told that although woodpeckers will sometimes peck for the heck of it, it is usually because they believe/know there to be food (insects) there. In the end, we replaced the cedar shakes with a nice vinyl siding.

I wish you luck and hope that the snow blower changes the game for you living safely at your new abode.

i hope you can start insulating and rocking soon. that why you people can start moving in and enjoying the house. i laughed with the woodpecker problem you had. not because it was pecking on your siding, but it reminded me of the one that i had at my country house years ago. for some strange reason, the one at my house, would use the down spout on the side of my house, and it sounded like a machine gun going off. it was not afraid of me, and sorry to say, i had to dispatch it. i stained my T1-11 siding a dark brown color, turned out a porcupine love the taste of the stain, and over time, ate a big section of my siding and i had to replace a large section of one 4x8 sheet.

Woodpeckers will attract a mate by making the most noise they can. So they will peck on metal during mating season! I had one that would wake us up at 4:30 in the morning every spring by pecking on our metal chimney cap. Would do it for a week or two until he found a mate.

Happy to see that the snowblower works great. My thoughts is a gas engine with a sideways drive shaft mounted on a base plate on the front of a truck with the shafts from both the engine and the blower having a connection between them that could break loose so that neither would be damaged from a blockage/stoppage in the snowblower impeller.

We occasionally have a woodpecker problem at our Cottage and usually I will take a small chunk of screen and form a ball of mothballs inside of it and staple it up by the spot where the woodpecker likes to work and then up in areas where I think he might want to move to and it seems to work usually pretty well I find after a year so the moth balls wash away but they do tend to clean the cedar underneath which I don't particularly care about but if you are worried about it you could put a little piece of tin that would redirect any rain water away and then you won't have to use a shotgun treatment

I'm convinced that many code requirements are made according to somebody's preference rather than sound reasoning. Water softeners in Texas must have bypass valves but the whole house is served by it. ID code is the first place I've heard of a hard line requirement in the house. However Texas building code requires an electrical disconnect on the outside of the structure (good idea) which routinely results in the entire service panel mounted outside and exposed to the elements (not so good). Most of the time code represents good practice but sometimes it gets quirky. I enjoy your channel and never miss an episode. Thanks.

I love using CSST. Always oversize your lines because there's a possibility you will add things like a propane grill, tankless, etc. I ran 1" iron to two 1/2" CSST for stove and furnace and one 3/4" CSST for a tankless and I feel like it was a good investment for when you're using all the BTUs. Same with water. I ran 1" as far as I could, then 3/4 runs to 1/2 tees for each of the sinks, showers and toilets. My wife is so happy with the water pressure and that makes me happy. Her showers are shorter because the conditioner comes out of her hair twice as fast which makes me happy. Do not test your CSST at more than 5psi because you can damage the O-Rings. 5PSI over 24 hours is my preferred test for CSST because you're still 5-10 times overpressure for the system.

Sometimes Woodpeckers are attracted to electrical current and mistake the sound for insects. If they focus on one area perhaps check whats on the other side of the wall. For example try unplugging things like a T.V. or lamps and swap out the power outlet. We also left a dead tree standing out aways in the yard to give them something to do. Thanks for the videos and good luck with the birds.

Fuel and a block heater and she fired right up. Dang how do you work on the house and still find family time and all these great deals. Good for you, Heath. The puppy just wants to run, I had one of those for years. Little 12 pound min-pin would get loose and stay ahead of traffic out on the main road. He took fewer runs as he got between 13 and 15 years old, but he was still a fast little burger. Toward the end he started slowing down, lost his hearing, sight, and eventually took off never to return. He was a little magician at getting out of harnesses and over the fence. I miss him emencely, and figure he likely hit the woods to die. He likely didn't want me to have to bury him. My wife, i and our kids all combed the woods nearby for over a week, we never found him. Some dogs are just like that. They have to feel that freedom from time to time.

@ChrisK-LTC5 жыл бұрын
Since the snow blower is pto driven, consider mounting a small engine to it and belt driving the shaft to make it self contained. That would be cheaper and easier than hydraulics and you could remove it if needed to put it back on the tractor. Run a cable to the truck cab so you can run the engine throttle from inside.

Additionally, get some anti cavitation additives into that old diesel....my buddy is here I n my place swapping out IDI's from cavitation......only 90k miles. Keep up the good work...."quit tommorow not today" Good one!

The rear pto snowblowers are much more powerful and reliable than a front mount hydraulic. Look at wranglerstars front snowblower on his tractor. He also didn’t want a rear mount but the size of haydraulic power pack needed to run a decent size snowblower is huge. And it needed to be mounted on the rear pto. You may consider finding an engine to directly mount into a snowblower so you can push the snowblower and engine with it mounted on the front of the truck
@JB-qf5pn5 жыл бұрын
The best option for snow removal is a tractor with a loader on the front and always will be. You can’t replace being able to lift and dump snow, and even if you front mount the blower it’s going to be VERY slow. I tell “snow removal” companies that only have a truck with a plow and a snow blower that they don’t have the correct equipment all the time. You can push all you want, if you can’t lift to make a pile it doesn’t matter.
@donaldhofman2965 жыл бұрын
A good v plow and a side wing are better than a loader! Im from Minnesota!!!
@JB-qf5pn5 жыл бұрын
Donald Hofman again you can push all you want but unless you can lift to dump the snow you have nothing, I’ve seen every type of plow get stuck but a loader serves as a plow and can lift and dump so unfortunately your wrong. Being from Minnesota gives you no credit in my book we get just as much snow here. And the fact that you don’t see that a loader functions as a plow makes you ignorant.

Great videos, you are an inspiration. I agree, kinking your neck to run a snowblower backwards would not be a good thing with as much snow as you get. Have you considered using an engine with a belt drive to run the snow blower? Not sure what it would need but it would be self contained then. Or a hydraulic line off of the front end loader if you have a quick mount on it.

I'm not sure what transfer case you have but some of those old fords have a transfer case with an optional pto output on it, which I have seen used to run hydraulic winches, you could probably fabricobble something together either running hydraulics or rerouting the PTO shaft to output out the front to run the blower

Woody may cause some issues with all that wonderful siding. Years ago my grandfather had a similar problem. He put a t bar really high up with this glue like stuff. You can make some $$ and keep the road clear by opening a snow plowing business, get a small business loan, some heavy equipment that can also haul gravel in warm weather, and instead of wishing for light snow in the winter, you wish for more snow.. Either way..with a skill of a plumber, you should be able to foot the bill for plowing...
@wantblackwolf5 жыл бұрын
Might be easier to reverse the drive direction of an old tractor than to mount the blower to a truck. But if the truck idea is for the warm cab then an engine in the bed with a generator and mount an electric motor to the blower may be the least work. You could use a winch to raise and lower it. Use quick attach pins and battery connectors so you could remove it fast if need to. You could probably find a used forklift motor and controller that would work for little money. Looks like there is enough room on the 3 point frame to mount the motor then you could run a transfer case or something similar down to the shaft. Now that I think of it I love this idea of an electric blower truck so much I may have to do it myself.

If you find a truck with an old 4 or 5 speed stick shift (not sure on newer 6 speeds), you can add a pto to the side of the trans. Not sure if there would be room to run a drive shaft forward, over the front diff, but i think it's been done in the past. I actually have one I was going to put on my 73 GMC for a front winch...just never did.
