Unless you're going to have an outdoor kitchen, you are going to regret not putting a vent in the kitchen, especially since it's so much easier to put one in now then putting one in after the insulation/drywall is in.

One of the best ideas is to have a simple vent in the kitchen, I've installed them in some pretty high end homes and even witnessed a smoking bag of popcorn not stink up the house all due to a vent.
@marcryvon5 жыл бұрын
Actually Heath, you HAVE to install a HOODED vent over your cooking range according to codes everywhere I know. You went with the cheapest fans - 3" exhaust vs 4"- in your bathrooms but don't do the same in the kitchen. They make more noise than vent. Midrange ones are inexpensive now and very effective while very quiet. Fully worth it ! And Cedar will appreciate !

Definitely do a vent for the kitchen. If budget allows do a remote one so it stays nice and quiet in the kitchen. The remote fan isn’t much more than the standard, but it’s really worth it when you can cook and talk at the same time. Or hear what’s in the rest of the house.

Don't short yourself on the amount of work done lately. The insulation will go fast like you say and then the sheetrock will start to transform the space 4 feet at a time. We had a builder remodel our kitchen a few years back and he talked us out of putting a vent hood back in over the stove. There are several things he did that we dont like but not having a vent hood is the thing that bothers us the most. It is not something we would use every day but when it's needed it becomes painfully obvious Perhaps you can find a wall vent fixture that is not as much as an eyesore as you now envision?
@BCElginTex5 жыл бұрын
Seems like it would be a lot easier to install the range hood, now, rather than after the house is finished. I can almost guarantee your family is going to want one after a huge meal being cooked and it taking a week to get the smell out of the house. It was stuffed bell pepper that convinced me. Uggg! Don't forget that you will probably need to vent the utility room for the batteries out-gassing during the charge cycles. A small 12VDC computer fan that runs off one of the batteries would work great for that purpose...I use that setup on mine. Also...venting the kitchen above the stove might be a good idea as well...it would be a small expense now for a lot of convenience later.

If you are planning on using the vents with the bug screen for the clothes dryer vent, it will plug up very quickly with lint causing a fire hazard or at the very least make your dryer worker inefficiently. You may want to look at dryer vents that have a screen to keep out rodents, but even these have to be checked occasionally to make sure the lint is not plugging them up.

It great that you got first fix completed for the water, gas and electric. That’s a big hurdle to overcome and, mixing metaphors, it’s down hill now and picking up speed to completion👍🏻 Have you thought about rainwater gutters to the main and single storey roofs connected to a rain water collection system? Likewise when you start working to complete the shop. Would be a back up to your well esp if you are going to have an extensive kitchen garden and livestock.

We have dryer vents like you installed (we don’t have screens on ours) and we have to clean gobs of lint from ours on a regular basis. We clean our dryer filter with each load but still have lint build up on the plastic vent. With those screens on yours, how will you clean them? They could become a fire hazard pretty quickly. I wouldn’t worry about bugs getting in. The dryer will blow them out. Thanks for letting us share your adventure.
