Awesome work Brad, I loved seeing all your customisations! My favourite is "May the forest be with you" 😁 There's something to be said for the the good old 4WD awning. I agree with the awning as well. Like I mentioned in my past awning videos, the other ones may look glamorous but they're not that effective camping. These simple awnings to me are the best bang not just for the buck, but also the best performing in my opinion.

Air tag only works for a very limited distance. My vehicle has LoJack. Very reliable.
@PlayingwithSticks
@PlayingwithSticks 2 ай бұрын
Maybe I am wrong, but I was told air tags work off of proximity. Not proximity to your phone, proximity to any iphone. So if an iphone passes your trailer (whether they are hiking, in a car, etc) it will ping that location to the server and then back to you. With all the iphones out there today there is a good chance at some time within a 24 hour period that someone would be within pinging distance.

Thank you my friend! Sending the positive energy back your way as well. We u just got done with a nice long family camping trip. It almost couldn't have went any better. It's rare that I get back from camping and immediately start tinkering with my setup. We have this so dialed in, this is the closest we have ever got to everything just being in the right place, arms reach, organized, everything in its place. There were days where the high was 38° and it barely put a hiccup in our travels. Crazy how long we've been doing this, and how many days we've been out, and I'm still dialing it in. But there's something super exciting about these small incremental gains. Great seeing you my friend.

@@PlayingwithSticks that is great to hear. I bet Mae was very excited for her trip. I'm curious on the final adjustment for sleeping. Everybody fit okay I assume? Where are you going to keep your fishing equipment? I've been debating how I'm going to do it. I think I'm going to get a PVC tube and mount it to the trailer rack. It's been in the Jeep and a bit of a task to pull it out, set up. When all ya want is too just wet a line.
@PlayingwithSticks
@PlayingwithSticks 2 ай бұрын
The sleeping was great. Our oldest son (8 years old) can nicely fit on the bunk/counter. That made me feel good knowing that in the future he could come down and the little guy goes up. But, before then I have a feeling me and one of the boys will be sleeping outside in hammocks or under the awning. The boys know how much I love sleeping under the stars, so I have a feeling they may inherit that love. The fishing is a good question. Lately we have been running with very small breakdown rods. Either our fly rods or little dock demon poles for throwing out a fly or synthetic worm under a bobber. Boys still are doing better under the bobber vs the fly rod. Because the Bean has such high ground clearance I have been considering running a pvc tube under the front platform for fishing gear. I have a flat pack gear video coming out sometime in the near future. I have collected so much of this type of gear that we have really freed up the space in the tow vehicle and camper. I'm finding it much easier this season to bring EVERYTHING with me when fishing. The flat pack items have been a real blessing. Seems like fishing has really expanded lately. We are finding trout in places there never were trout before. And at water temperatures much higher than I thought trout could exist in. It's been fun finding all these new off the beaten path fishing destinations.

I too have put more reflective on my square drop. Here is my cheap hack. Get a Reliant water jug, a spare cap and spigot, and a water pump that goes on those 5 gallon clear water bottles. Cut the “turner” off of the new valve and you now have a straight pipe. Screw it into the spare cap and place the water pump over it. Now you have a fancy water jug. Also, can tell a great story about getting locked out of our camper. We too carry spare keys because of that “adventure”/ordeal.

I would caution people on the camp stove wind guards. I had one around my butane stove. The heat buildup melted a plastic part inside the stove and it caused the butane to go BLASTING through the burner with no way to approach the stove or turn it off. I quickly grabbed a bath towel, soaked it heavily in water and threw it over the stove. It extinguished the flame. The butane canister was red hot and I’m shocked it didn’t explode. Be careful with wind guards.

I found that my outdoor, and indoor high intensity LEDs will attract bald faced hornets at night if the nest is close. I put amber filters on them and have not had a repeat issue in the same location.

Thank you for sharing this. Amber seems to be very effective.

Do people need a link for pool noodles? I guess you're just being consistent (though maybe they are hard to find this time of year -- I had trouble finding sunscreen)
@PlayingwithSticks
@PlayingwithSticks 2 ай бұрын
😂 I literally thought the same thing when I was making the link. But then I kind of reflected on my own life and realized so many times I had been living under a rock. So I thought maybe there's a possibility that 10% of the viewers have never heard of a pool noodle. I love this comment. Makes me smile knowing somebody Saw the awkward decision I had to make.

Hi Drew, I'm from the Black Hills and was wondering if you had any RV dealerships that you recommend for these type of campers. I know you have a lot of experience with them.
@PlayingwithSticks
@PlayingwithSticks 2 ай бұрын
The Black hills is a bit of a small camper desert. You have some RV dealerships that carry small campers that are built by the large RV industry. We typically don't suggest those trailers. In the Black hills though you do find a lot of great small camper trailers on the used market on Facebook marketplace. In terms of new trailers, I think your best bet are states like Utah, Colorado, Minnesota. All those surrounding states have some good small ma and pa manufacturers.

I don't include shirts in my description. So I think you may have accidentally clicked in the wrong place. Once I get my computer I will send that link to you for the mat.

Honestly this video was exhausting to watch . Camping should not be this complicated with all the numerous gadgets and fixes ! I know I would never own a Tab or any teardrop type trailer. I get it ,personal preference. 🤔😁

Airtag and Tile aren't GPS vehicle trackers. They use Bluetooth.
@PlayingwithSticks
@PlayingwithSticks 2 ай бұрын
That's right, they ping off of nearby phones. So theoretically still vehicle trackers, but like you said not GPS. In this day and age with everybody having phones, the chance of someone being within pinging distance is quite high.
