A year late, but yeah, everything stated here is exactly on spot. If you wanna go bigger, it’s gotta be done right, and done right cost big. I bought my Tacoma already built, total chaos, kings, leaf under, airbags, everything. I swear it’s one of the trucks in this video, anyway, whoever built my truck, in Colorado, built the perfect Tacoma. And now the baddest Tacoma on South Padre island Texas….

There's definitely a ton of nuance to this topic. You can get away with a very aggressive chop and around a 2 - 2.5 inch lift by playing with tire width and wheel offset. Most 35s will be around 12.5 width. There's actually a ton of great options with a 35x11.50 that will make fitting much easier. That and keeping to a 0 offset or even positive offset. Not so positive that the tire rubs on the inside though. Like a +15mm up to a 0 is the key to easier fitment. Just a few things to keep in mind. Definitely cutting involved either way lol.
@brosapien5392 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. My third gen is running icon stage 6 approx 2.5ish inches lift and a pretty aggressive CMC like you mentioned. 35x10.50s on 17x7 TRD wheels +6 offset. Very minimal rubbing only on full lock and full compression. Everyone wants the wider tires and they want ‘em to stick way out, . . . Now that’s when you’ll be cutting fenders and the rest of this stuff. My fenders aren’t cut and my 35s are looking sweet. Some people would rather have a daughter in a whore house than consider running PIZZA CUTTERS!
@Clanc54R Жыл бұрын
@brosapien5392 my only issue with 35x10.50 is the selection. To my knowledge you can get the Kenda Klever RT & MT. Venom Power makes a couple tires in that size. I think that might actually be it. The selection isn't huge in a 35x11.50 either, but Nitto makes their Ridge, Recon, and Trail Grapplers in that size. Toyo has the AT3 in that size. Even Falken has their new RT01 in that size. Hopefully Falken makes their AT3W in that size. I'm on 285/70R17 right now, so the 35x11.50 would keep the same width I have now but just taller.
@chrisking6695 Жыл бұрын
What about -10?
@Clanc54R Жыл бұрын
@chrisking6695 can definitely work. Just more cutting and fitting. I think you basically require a -10 or -12 to fit a 35x12.50. A 0 works kinda, but will rub most UCAs at full lock. That's why I love the 35x11.50. The more offset you go, the more you rub on the scrub. But if you go wider, you need more offset. Just becomes a headache. -10 isn't too much though. You can definitely get away with it with some patience. Hell I posted this so long ago though that I actually need the 0 offset for the same issue though. +15 causes me to rub slightly on the UCA with an 11.50 so I'll be switching to a 0 soon.

Thanks for the great summary. I haven't pulled the trigger on any of this yet, but when I consider regearing, I'm also considering a front diff lock at the same time to save money (compared to doing them separately). If you are trying to increase your rock crawl-ability with 35s, the front diff lock would also be worth considering.

Currently my setup is 23 Taco with 6112/5160 on hvy OME leafs and OME UCAs on method 701 wrapped in 33 nittos. Full under armor with deck and leer xr. Have a CBI bumper with tire carrier on the way. Having a lift does not change clearance of a tire. You do not need a lift. Also a 35 is only 1” more clearance from a 33”.
@mtnyotas11 ай бұрын
A lift that isn't a drop-bracket kit does increase ground clearance, just not at your LCAs or axles... belly clearance and approach/departure angles are important too. Ground clearance on your axles is only changed with portals or bigger tires. A lift definitely creates tire clearance, and you may not "need" to lift the truck to fit bigger tires, but what's wrong with upgrading your suspension and making it easier to run larger tires?

You would think by now Toyota would give us more room so we could run bigger tires since the Tacoma is advertised as an off-road vehicle. I myself after hassling with my 02,05,2010 bought new and not having good luck with them off road drive other brands that are for me more reliable cheaper and way easier to modify

Honestly if you have that relocation, the only clearance you’ll have to do is the plastic and pinch welds- other than that you sound like you’ve got all set

i can tell anyone who is curious now... i have a 2017 trd sport tacoma, put a 6" RC suspension lift with 35x12.50 and 20" rims. first year was fine but if u live on rough roads or offroad alot and really stress your suspension, its a nightmare with replacing ball joints bearings and front cv axels. Also turning radius is minimal unless u trim your fenders and a small portion of your frame. looks absolutely mean but the ride and gas milage is horrible. im thinking where i went wrong was buying my lift from RC but thats where im at with it

@mtnyotas Жыл бұрын
We never advise a drop bracket kit. The truck will never drive the same once you cut out the stock frame crossmember :/ It will also always be out of alignment due to the aftermarket bolted on drop bracket. We actually will not even work on a truck that has a drop bracket kit on it! #JustSayNo
