I love pokemon. I was born in 1995 so i grew up with the anime and have played all the games. As i got older i've been hopefull that the games would expand and do something more, but they havent changed much, legends being the exception. Pokemon has so much more untapped potential despite being a 20+ yr old franchise. I think a little bit of competition is good for them maybe then will they listen to their fans/customers more.

What competiotion? You are comparing a crafting survival game, like Arc survival Valheim and Minecraft to a tunt based cxreature collection RPG Like Shin Megami Tensei adn Dragon Quest Monsters. They are entirely different generes of game. It's like saying a call of Duty is gonna compeate against Age of Empires it's absolute nonsense

Yugioh and Digimon were considered Competition to the pokemon anime, trading card game and video games at one point despite being their own thing. If you think about it there are enough similarities that pokemon felt the need to give a response, but their are enough differences in the game as you mentioned that they probably won't be able to do anything about it but hopefully [improve] on their games.

Legends foundation with the ability to create your own outpost and use pokemon in ethical ways to farm so you can show off more pokemon than just having them sit in a box.

@@PulseOfMe they ran like trash but I enjoyed the actual intended parts of the game like the characters and new Pokémon. I do wish they could spend longer making games so they don't break and ruin the actual good parts they put effort into. Like it or not, Scarlet and Violet did have some good things but you and many other people just prove that no matter how good the story or any other aspect is, if it's full of bugs and runs like crap then the game is not good. The performance wasn't enough to make me hate the game personally but I understand that it's not a pleasant experience for some people.

So, I've also played Palworld. My first impressions is that it feels different from the typical pokemonon-style gameplay (other than the obvious gun mechanic). It has this grind aspect where you have to farm various resources for different objectives, like Minecraft. For instance, you chop down wood to make a crafting table, or mine stones to craft the Pokeball equivalent, pal spheres. There's also a hunger meter for both your character and Pal monsters, so fighting off wild ones for food makes it more realistic thaPokemonon could ever be. As for the Pals themselves, there are definitely a few noteworthy Pal designs that are nearly identical to actual Pokemonon, some of them even hybrids of two. I can't say for certain whether they ripped it off from Pokemon's 3-D designs, but they do have other, more original-looking designs.

Does it have any sort of competitive side to ot. Most gameplay ive seen for fighting is just standing and firing guns at pals. Having seen all the designs theres some wholey unique awesome designs like the dream deamon that was sick but then theres others that are just an existing pokemon design but tweeked in some way like a green cinderace.

3DS and WiiU online services going down is definitely the end of an era. It's nice to know Pokémon Bank will still be up for some period of time, but if they don't have a solution to keep the games connected, this will be the first time in the franchise since Generation 2 into 3 that previous generations are being cut off from the current games. And it's even worse this time because Generations 6 and 7 *only* communicate via Bank. So what we will be seeing is Generations 1 and 2 can connect only to each other (again, and this time even the Virtual Console versions), 3-5 can transfer through up to 5, and 6 and 7 (not counting Let's Go) will each be completely separate. This will be the most disconnected the Pokémon games have ever been, but I suppose it's a sad reality that a long running franchise like Pokémon couldn't keep it up forever.

i skipping out on palworld personally. its interesting to watch everything unfold, but i just cant do yet another early access survival game, even if this one has a major mechanical difference. but i really do hope the pokemon company sees this as a threat. some strong competition would mean batter games all around.

Only way to make it more of a threat to them is to speak with your money. But hey, it's understandable you'd rather wait until it gets out of EA (if it does) which I respect. Let's hope we see it get out of it and be a full game release.

@JetsetStealth As much as I wanna oppose… you’re absolutely right. I grew up with Pokémon understand fully. Palworld has gained recognition even though it’s just a baby. But the Pokémon franchise itself IS Gamefreak’s child after being married to the guy who created said series. Sadly, every Pokémon fan is caught up in this Pokémon vs. Palworld malarkey and because there were cowards caved to the gun-inspired idea and made people impose this mediocrity of an obsession on others. As Lacey would say, “That’s just not right,” Meaning, it would be selfish to deny the preface of it above all else. Pokémon taught me how to relate to others and have a brain. I stand by your thought.

I've always wanted to see a Pokemon game more like the Anime, pokemon arent just for battle, they are so diverse and are helpful in so many more aspects in the modern world, the anime shows this, some people just wanna surf with their pokemon, some poke centers are pikachu powered, some pokemon help people with their work, there are corrupt organizations that sell pokemon and abuse them, ETC, Pal world realizes how pokemon have so much more potential than just battling, it really feels like a pokemon WORLD, rather than just the same battling formula over and over again. Palworld is the first step to the ultimate Pokemon game.

Im a law student studying IP law right now and this is fascinating. I hopped online to try to find the trademark, patent, and copyright documents around the characters and was unable to find the specific character descriptions to compare them to palworld. I am still just a student, so don't read into that lmao, but the docs I were able to find were scarily extensive. Like specific game and product covers were uploaded to the USTPO. I'm going to talk to my prof on this next week but I am really on the edge of my seat.

I'm just upset that it's existence is making Pokémon fans even angrier and we don't need that. Everyone is mad enough already over SV and this is making it worse. I see people say that they need competition because it'll motivate them to make the games better but I seriously doubt that. As much as I want that to be the case, I don't think they'll ever listen to us... maybe one day but I'm not sure. I ain't counting on it. It looks like they might even try to take down their competition so... there's that. Pokémon is still a huge franchise and they obviously don't have to worry about Palword ruining it or whatever. Yeah! I actually bought the game yesterday as well after trying it out on Game Pass last weekend and I love it, I have some frame issues while I’m playing it though! but I have an RTX 3050 under the hood so I don't think it's from my end, I think it's more likely because the game isn't finished yet, or it's a server issue or something like that I don't know, I also tried session skate sim to compare it while i had pumped up all the settings to max and was able to run it easy at 120 FPS smoothly without any frame drops, so I guess the only thing I have to do is wait for the updates and see if it gets better after.🤷🏻‍♂️

For the 3DS online ending, when I heard it would end soon it made me want to make a ribbon master before I'm unable to use Bank to transfer old mons up, but I don't even own an old DS or the GBA and DS Pokemon games to get those older ribbons. I might still do it with gen 6 as my start point, and as far as I can tell I'll be missing the gold battle and contest memory ribbons.

The past month ive put in 25 hours i to VC Yellow, 60 into VC crystal (Raikou had become my least favourite legendary as a result) plus grinding Dream Radar for the Therian forms, plus gen 4 bonuses. Yes. The "online Services" refer to the operation of the Nintendo eshop, remote multiplayer, and similar systems. Not wifi or p2p multiplayer, or other non-Nintendo features.

What Nintendo should learn from Palworld, irrespective of whether there is any legal action, is that as well as Pokémon sells, it has the potential to sell many more copies if they made it look and perform better. They also need to freshen up the series with some much needed innovation instead of just making minor tweaks to the formula.

I'm all for Palworld being competition for Pokemon in the creature capture genre, it'd force them to improve themselves, but there's so many designs that are copy pastes of Pokemon that I don't feel comfortable supporting it. My Pokemon journey ends with BDSP, but as a final act of dedication to the franchise I loved (until it decayed alive with gens 8 and 9, leading to me buying neither SwSh and SV) I have managed to get a full dex, including mythicals, into my Shining Pearl, and I am very close to having all legends and mythicals shiny (trading with a close friend for an extra shiny celebi tomorrow - he has VC and I do not), then I will slowly breed everything else shiny over time. That will be the finish line for me, a complete collection (to the extent possible) in the remakes of my favorite generation.

I'm glad pokemon Bank and transporter still work. Still working on a living dex, however my goal is to catch the pokemon from each generation on the game they originally came out on, so I'm using VC for R/B/Y and G/S/C. Better get a move on incase that ever ends. Regarding Palworld, I think that message was more aimed at the Pokemon mod more so then designs. But I guess we'll see.

I’m so sad about online services on the 3DS shutting down. I’ve invested a lot in DS/3DS Pokémon games over the last couple of years and won’t be able to go through all games (far from it) before April (so I can send everything to Home). Is there a known way to “replicate” an exact Pokémon from DS/3DS on a Switch? With an arbitrary OT and all?

At this point I dont know if its possible anymore, but I wish theyd just make Pokemon Bank and Transporter work offline. People will obviously use that to hack pokemon and bring them to the newer games, but I feel like it overall would be a more positive thing helping people keep old games relevant. To me being able to keep pokemon through the decades was alsways a giant plus giving me the feeling like what I did wasnt just some game but a continuous franchise in which what you did was wasnt just a" play game and done" thing.

Gen 6 and 7 GTS kept crashing when I tried to use it about a year ago. Pretty sure the cause is from putting broken pokemon on the GTS.

Its a great game. AAA studios are just mad gamers dont like their crap products. Its cheap and has great gameplay. I hope Palworld give gamefreak a good kick to breath inovation in Pokemon.

I agree personally I won't touch this game with a ten foot pole because how blatant they are with the Frankenstein mash up of trend chasing. However I like the idea of bootleg Pokémon showing Game Freak and Nintendo they can't keep coasting. However, however some of those 3d assets are a little to close for comfort in proportions that might invalidate any lessons. However, however, however the fact that those 3d assets could have been fake because of malicious intent from a loon who conflates a sentient race that can make and assemble guns as animal cruelty. Well, the whole thing is a mess I'm glade Nintendo is looking into it so the whole debate can end... mostly.

So what I've boiled it down to, is that it's basically ARK Survival base, Legends Arceus style catching and then Breath of the Wild movement accessibility. Then like a pipeline efficiency game of skills and pals to further along everything, which makes it more fun than ARK and it makes me feel like my time is respected.

Palworld isn't a Pokemon competition. It's a totally different genre if game. Palworld is a open world survival game more similar to something like Ark

Nintendo has no case lol this was most likely just a statement to say 'we know about palworld, stop emailing us'. They're as litigious as Disney and this game was announced over a year ago - if they had a case, they would have sent a C&D long ago.
