@northcreature57215 жыл бұрын
@@uaksz555 it depends whether you think you friends will play it or not. I usually would ask mine weather if I got this game they would play it. It also helps if you have heaps of spare time to play this as I found sitting down and playing this game for long periods of time helped by not breaking the pace. I love board games that have multiple choice in play style because it allows you to play to what makes it the most fun for you. Im also thinking about getting this game but have others I need to finish first before I pick up a new one.
@northcreature57215 жыл бұрын
I judge weather a game is worth it depending on the amount of time it will take and how much I will enjoy of those hours. There is no point in picking up a big game if you have no interest in playing it alot and you will probably end up moving on to another and its left collecting dust. Just to make clear I have not played it just boards games with similar style of play. Hope this helps as I know what it's like to be on the fence about something. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and have a happy new year🎄

When the playing time is "as long as it takes," the number of people in my gaming group who would play such a game drops dramatically. Looks awesome, but it would never get to the table in my lifetime.

Really enjoying Tainted Grail, although finding it hard once a certain event happens about chapter 3.... Already about to start my 4th attempt at the game. Furthest I've got is chapter 4. It has also got me back into painting miniatures for the first time in many years. All the base game miniatures painted, and the numbers on the metal dials highlighted with white paint. Now starting on the Monsters of Avalon miniatures
@3MBG5 жыл бұрын
Painting the dial numbers is a solid idea. And yeah, i know the bit you mean. I've only got past there once

You should be running away from the bad thing that shows up. Escaping combat from it only costs 2 energy and a terror, much better than trying to fight it. I'm in chapter 6 and can pretty reliably win against it, but it's not worth the wounds to try most of the time.

My wife & I started this gane 2/3 times soon after it finally arrived, but have yet to finish. We got started on having kids, so our time became far too limited to start playing such a long game (that we kept losing so quickly into the story). We did decide to slightly alter the rules to make it a little more forgiving next time we play because we very much want to experience the story, and both know we will never play it again if we restrict ourselves to the rules as written. Soon, we shall have a gaming table, so we can leave it set up even with kids, and we will take it on again!

@@3MBG It's much appreciated. Of course on KS (generally) things are presented to very much appeal, and with the added exclusives and deadline for the campaign there's certainly pressure - already if you are only mildly interested in a game. It's not a feeling I enjoy. In my opinion campaigns should not be less than 21 days, and maybe offer to late pledge, if only for a limited time. Also it is surprising that at times there is no official gameplay video during a campaign, only afterwards. So figuring out what is something that resonates or what doesn't can be a challenge.

The Grimdark is where this one lost me. The gratuitously sexy sculpts of the female characters already had me a bit iffy, and then some of the story beats I've heard of just sounded unnecessarily edgelord-y: I remember in Rahdo's run-through he mentioned a story event where his choices resulted in a group of nuns being raped and just noped out.
@3MBG5 жыл бұрын
Yep, grimdark is exactly the tone. And I agree, at times it feels excessive. I don't personally mind that kind of content, within reason, but its a massive barrier to a lot of people. I really should have mentioned it in the downsides, but got caught up with my annoyance at the menhirs
@frenchy11385 жыл бұрын
It makes me miss the days when Grimdark was the campy, absurd kind that pervades a certain era of Warhammer 40k, honestly. It's disappointing - Awaken Realms have pulled off dark and confronting without crossing the line into edgelord territory before, so I know they can do it. Also looking forward to Etherfields for that reason. Also, I'm now trying to remember if you've reviewed Everdell and what you thought of that magnificent-but-stupid tree ;)
@3MBG5 жыл бұрын
Hahaha, i kinda like the tree. It gives the game presence. It's not practical, but i dont have to move it every time i have an encounter.

I am so glad you mentioned that scene. I usually go way out of my way to avoid spoilers, but I'm glad I didn't this time. That is a massive Nope for me too.
