Love the old building and cooler. It's great to see it still being appreciated. I agree with you on the electronic pressure controller. It is nice to be able to see the pressures and what's going on in the system. However, as with all electronics, there is much more of a chance of "sudden death" failure that takes out the entire system... and can't be easily replaced with a different system in emergency.

I love your video's and knowledge. I've learned some stuff that has been useful. I think someone below mentioned it... but, my only personally concern is putting refrigerant back in a clean tank of refrigerant. You are going to get some contaminants back in that tank. Probably not enough to worry about I'm guessing is your take. I would probably agree... I will probably start doing it now that I've seen you do it. Keep em coming... I love watching a pro do their thing!

In the early 70's we were at a fire in a building just like the one your in and I was in the basement pulling down the ceiling to vent and a old timer on the job told us that the same type of ceiling was left over from the old speakeasy days.. of the 20's and 30's.

You make it look easy. I like the pumping the excess back into the tank...could be a little dangerous for the uninitiated. Would any oil in the system contaminate the refrigerant in the tank? Makes me wonder why the contactor only lasted two years. I think I would check min voltage swing at compressor start. Could be insufficient wiring in the old building to support motor start inrush on the single phase system.

Nice work Jim. I know you don't want to hear it but that control has a defrost function so you could do away with the time clock. Those controls are good and like anything you just have to be familiar with them and have confidence in them.

Man I wish we could use you where I work. You don't do band aid fixes on anything. Half the time our maintenance people come in, they'll do a band aid fix...And hope that it holds. The only new condensers/evap units we have are out walk in cooler and walk in freezer. Everything else is held together with electrical tape, duct tape, or gum.

Electronic "computers" seemed to have invaded/replaced just about all analog stuff in modern equipment outside of HVAC/R, So its not so surprising to see it happen in HVAC/R as well. I remember when TVs were actually TVs, now they are just computers with a screen attached. If anything, its going to become even more integrated to replace more mechanical/electrical switches and cutouts. I am surprised they haven't replaced contactors yet with SSRs. Pretty soon you wont even need the iManifold or testo because youll be able to link your smart device right to the control board and get all the pressures, calculations, and everything you need right there from the machine itself using some sort of service code/app! So if your anti-technology, its only going to get worse as time goes by.
@hardcooling8 жыл бұрын
THEtechknight I agree with you but by the time that happens I'll have been retired

When you put refrigerant back to the tank from high side you also get some oil into your tank. Does that affect the refrigerant in your tank?

How is that freon going back in the tank? They have a check valve on them.
@WTFChuk7 жыл бұрын
I wondered the same thing myself. Those tanks are required to have check valves to prevent them from being refilled. Maybe the check valve is a bit leaky?
@cutabove90466 жыл бұрын
He's not getting it back in the tank. What's happening is liquid is filling the hose. I believe a hose will carry about 3 or 4 ounces of liquid refrigerant. So, he's reducing the amount in the system by 3 or 4 ounces.

Need help. When should you put a "P" trap on the suction line? Thanks for the videos. I have spent hours during the past week watching them.
@JamesPettinato9 жыл бұрын
Liam Bermingham only when the condensing unit is above the evaporator, you don't need them when the compressor is below the ecap. You put it at the lowest part of the system right after the evaporator, the oil collects there and gets pushed up to the compressor. In the past they were necessary with mineral based oil, I'm not so sure how necessary they are with POE oil, but it can't hurt to use them to protect the compressor. The main function is "oil return".
