Every time I watch your videos, I'm reminded of my growing up years in San Mateo county. I miss the old days, the 1970s. Fishing and crabbing the bay, over to the coast half moon bay south to Pescadero. Wonderful times. After California i moved to the Oregon coast. Better fishing and crabbing. For me, you are still the SF bay area.

Hi Matts, Iv'e seen most of your videos and they are awesome. I was a little disappointed in this one. Not because of you, but the guys you went to meet up with. If you came to see me I would've been jacked/excited and you would have known it. Both the guys you went to visit were so nonchalant about your visit and didn't show a lot of enthusiasm. I mean you drove all that way and you slept in your car? You should have been a guest in his home and if he had no room for you he should have treated you to a hotel. I'm sorry , I don't want to sound petty but that is how you should have been treated I believe. Too bad you passed right by me in Seaside Oregon. I would have shown you around and even have had a spare room for you. Love your videos, see ya soon sometime when you are out and about. I miss SF and love going back. Great videos

Maybe I’m just from the south and I don’t understand it… But I will say this, if you’re gonna drive that far to see me and meet me, we’re gonna go out fish fishin, And you’re gonna spend quite a bit of time with me, then there will be a bed in my house that you can sleep in. I understand you don’t quite know people, and you have to be careful, but if it’s somebody in this situation, I would easily like I said, have a room in my house that you could sleep in. And it would be in a safe part of the house where if somebody was weird, they wouldn’t be able to get near me or my family.

To add onto another part of that fun fact. All the interstates between 200-300 are connecters between those big highways. If you're ever up in Vancouver, there is a nice beach where you can walk out in waders and then forage Dungeys. Just bring a big net. Same limit as Washington.

I’m from Whidbey Island! It was cool to see you made the trek up here! Come back next year when the pinks are running they come in the millions and it’s a blast to catch them from the shore. I’ve got a couple spots I go that are private and secluded to avoid the crowds. 😁 I’ll take you and whoever out for the day. We live on an old farm with an outdoor kitchen, cob pizza oven and a camping area (soon to be a hip camp) Anyways the pinks are nice and chrome cause they’re still in the salt and whidbey is one of the first places they hit coming out of the ocean down the straight. Glad you were able to get on a couple coho and some crab. A little slim in October. Bite was crazy hot first two weeks of September this year. Also I’ve never done that Jetty and now after seeing this I think I’ll make a run down there in the spring! Thanks for the vid as always and safe happy travels to ya!

@trippinoutdoors22 күн бұрын
Matts, as many others have pointed out, I feel bad for you and this trip you made, and how you were greeted and treated. Both of these guys genuinely seemed like they didn't actually want to be there or you there at all. The first guy even came off as a little annoyed or miffed I think, that's the energy and body language he gave off throughout. Maybe he offered to let you sleep in the house, maybe not, and if the latter, that's especially messed up. You made a unreal drive two ways, and... That is the result and treatment. I'm sorry man, but that's so wrong. And as others noted, we can pick up on your emotions and feelings, and unsaid things throughout the video, especially at the end. I would have felt horrible by that point, and eventually really irritated given the commitments I made, and the effort, time, money and travel I had to spend to make the trip. I'd certainly go through a load of emotions like a rollercoaster. And knowing I still had to drive all that way back again? That'd be the real gut check for me. I want you to know that there are so many other people, literal thousands, maybe even hundreds of thousands of people in this community and in our states who would be elated to host you, and enjoy life together, if only for a day or two, and would go above and beyond to accomodate you well, not out of a feeling of requirement, expectation or obligation, but simply because its second nature to us. Its just who we are and the right thing to do. I hope this trip, and the experiences on it do not color your perception of us in these states, or deter you from considering trying something like this again. The latter I would understand if you wouldn't want to risk it again, but I hope you'll give it another shot someday. All that said, even throughout this kind of experience, it really is a matter of perception. You gotta make the most of it and enjoy what you can. Notice and enjoy the little things, and allow yourself to know there is lessons in every experience, good or bad, which is always a benefit. That's most important, to which can ensure though there may always be some regrets, and some new skepticism/caution taken in the future to avoid the negatives, overall, you appreciate it and in the end, are still thankful for having it.

Indian oral tradition dating to an event in the early 1700's says that an estimated 140 foot high tsunami passed through this San Juan de Fuca area when the great subduction earthquake fault violently shook not far offshore. This oral tradition was later verified by geologic soil samples where a thick layer of ocean sand was found far inland in core samples. It is also recorded in the written record of Japan because the waves traveled that far. Evidence of old cedar trees knocked down can still be found today. The coastal Indian villages were essentially erased with a huge loss of life. The San Andreas Fault gets all the attention, but in many ways this Washington/Oregon subduction zone is even more dangerous because coastal areas have about five minutes to find much higher ground. I'm not a fear monger or one to stir paranoia. I just have an interest in geology. Knowledgeable geologists say this same fault is way overdue for another big one. But back to fishing. I simply love your channel. I like how you escaped San Francisco. I taught high school in SF. I experienced that city before it was taken over by the homeless.
